Season 9 did have the Twin Towers episode (which is a holdover from season 8 ) so it's not all bad certainly.

I find the part of the episode where they visit Mad Magazine, possibly to tie-in with Fox's then-upcoming Saturday Night Live competitor Mad TV, painful. Alfred E. Newman shouldn't talk.

On the other hand, that episode also gave us the screencap of Lisa Simpson holding the magazine with the bus ad that says "New York $9" which now shows up in every 9/11 conspiracy video (since the silhouette of the Twin Towers next to the "$9" make it look kind of like "9 11") as "proof" that the Simpsons predicted the World Trade Center attack even though there's no actual prediction of an attack in the image.

I'd argue even season 7 has its lows. Oh well.

But at least you can say the show was still funny until 11. Homer vs. Dignity came the season afterwards which officially marks when the people working on The Simpsons stopped giving a shit.

I feel like the show hit its peak at Season 8, where you could start to see some minor dents in the armor. For example, the Sherry Bobbins episode, while funny, pointed more into the absurdist humor territory that would permeate the show in later seasons. And then more signs came in Season 9, and a few more in 10 and so on and so on.

The Simpsons becoming unwatchable was a multi-year process to me. They made their mistakes in Season 9 and 10, but it was still solid and good from time to time.

I think I started to turn off when I noticed they were making fun of themselves for being on the air too long ("Maggie shot Mr. Burns again!!!!" and The Spring-Shield episode which had the bit where Homer spent 30 seconds listing every single job he's had over the course of the show). I mean when even the show itself has become self aware that its been on the air too long, it becomes a lot easier to notice.
 
The simpsons didn't just turn shitty on a dime in one episode. The shittiness was always there, it was just hidden by the good stuff. Unfortunately, they seem to have used up all the good stuff by now, but it was still smeared on some of the crappier seasons accidentally. The medical weed episode stands out at a funny episode later in the show's run.
 
I also really liked the "Behind the Laughter" episode from Season 11 that brilliantly parodied the sitcom behind the scenes docs that were coming out at the time.

And by treating The Simpsons as actors in a show, I almost felt like this one probably could have worked as a series finale.

He's always been talkative. Obviously there's "What, me worry?" and there's all the quotes of wisdom from him over the years. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a record or something with him talking too.

The shittiness of modern simpsons is pretty much universally defined as
a) inferior repetition of previous "higher concept" episodes
b) massive over-saturation of topical shit and celebs, both as focuses for episodes AND as humor within the episodes
c) general bad writing (as in lazy bad writing, as opposed to the ultra dated exploratory writing of the first two seasons) and worse characterisation leading to increased disconnect between viewer and events on screen

Drawing upon these three factors, I think we can isolate the beginnings of the rot in season 3 with the slow proliferation of celeb cameos as themselves and season 6/7 with topical shit leaking in and ideas starting to be repeated/rehashed/redone more. These seasons were still great and all, but I think you can isolate the patient zeroes of Zombie Simpsons within some of the episodes there

Springfield Cinematic Universe.

One mainline movie every two years focusing on the core family, then a standalone film or two in between. Look forward to titles like MOE: A Springfield Story and SIDESHOW MEL: A Springfield Story.

If you don't like it, then you're a racist, sexist entitled manbaby because everything will be just as good as season 3!

They should have a Fox Animated Sitcom crossover universe with Bartman having adventures with Wheels and the Legman
 
I still feel whatever Disney does with the Simpsons will be worse, tho. Maybe make Lisa the main lead and add some "woke" messages here and there to attract the Hard Kondabolus back to the show. Like the stuff with Rey or Captain Marvel in the MCU or the princesses in Ralph 2.
