I remember the episode Lisa’s Wedding, set over a decade and a half hence in 2010. In current Simpsons, Lisa was born in 2010.

I know it's been said a million times but that episode should have really been the series finale. It was perfect.

Tonight's episode is about Moe in love, which has never been done before, and the bar going upscale, a wholly original concept not seen in any previous episodes.

There's an old Far Side cartoon captioned "In the Bewitched writer's room" where a writer is suggesting the plot of that week's episode be about Darrin being cursed and no one can figure out what's wrong until Samantha catches on. It was a dig at how formulaic the show was but that none of the writers realized they were doing the same shit again and again.

You could just as easily replace Bewitched with The Simpsons at this point given how formulaic the show has become.

To be fair, the bar going upscale was only a small portion of the episode and it wasn't really brought up again after I wrote that post and Moe's new Russian mail-order fiancée turned out to be...

...a con woman from Columbus, Ohio.

Even so, Moe trying to find love is the most hackneyed and overused episode concepts. He finds someone and then they leave at the end.

These episodes also have the side effect of diminishing Moe's appeal as a character. Moe's at his best when he's at his nastiest, threatening customers with a shotgun, yelling empty threats at Bart, and running illegal operations in his bar. Episodes that have him be more sensitive don't work because it's the total opposite of what makes his character funny. That's not to say you can't make it work (one of my favorite moments is from Bart's Comet where Homer makes a heartfelt speech about Ned's sacrifice, and Moe acknowledges he's right and joins Homer. But they make it funny with his line "Hey Homer wait up, I wanna die too!"), but the show quite frankly isn't smart enough anymore to pull it off.

So, are we going to ignore the fact that they spelled dox with two 'X's?

btw, this was during a scene where Bart and pals go on the dark web and encounter a Jon Lovitz-voiced Clippy clone.

How many different things has Moe's been?

Moe's Bar
Mo's
Flaming Moe's
Uncle Moe's Family Feedbag
Whatever it was called when it was a gay bar

Am I missing any?
