I first watch the show when I was like 4 or 5 and saw the Christmas episode when it first aired. I feel old!

I actually had to look it up. They showed Season 1 in 1991 here, two years before I got into school. "There’s No Disgrace Like Home" should be the first one I saw and probably the first one they showed, the broadcast order was all fucked up.
Fuck I'm old.

I watched the early episodes in reruns on my local Fox affiliate when I had dinner every night. I thought the name of the show was "Homer" until I was six.

I thought the movie was honestly pretty good. A 7 out of 10. The big problem is the 2nd act drags. And what was up with that bit with Schwarzenegger as president?
Making him a president just sounded too far off the beaten path for the series to make (if only because Arnold happened to be Governor of California at the time so they had to be timely). They could've thrown in Rainier Wolfcastle in the role and it would've work without question.

Understandable, then again with a Simpsons Movie you've got to be "safe" to not piss off the '90s audience you're banking off of.
I had to admit though I kinda wondered what happened to Spider-Pig in the end, thinking they town had probably already eaten his porky corpse by now but they did have a deleted scene (or alternate cut) where he was there helping build Santa's Little Helper's dog house. Why they left that out, who knows, I'm not the director!

It's the fucking Simpsons in theatres. Millions of people would've already watched it based on that fact alone, everything else be damned.
You took the words out of my mouth here. This was what we probably wanted to see since day one and it finally happen.

And the funny thing is that those episodes are considered classics now (and for good reason). I don't think the Simpsons is going to end until one of the core four voice actors kick the bucket or quit.
I'm sure all it'll take is for either Dan, Julie, Yeardley or Nancy to finally have enough. These people stuck it out the longer and have been there since the VERY FIRST SHORT!

Babby alert!

When I was a kid the Simpsons were being shown on BBC2!
I recall there was a clever ident made for a themed "Simpsons Night" one year!

EDIT: While I'm on this, I discovered this UK ad from 1990 that knew what it was spoofing!

They probably cut it out for time purposes, given how Plopper/Spider-Pig was the focus of a few episodes after the movie.

They should just say "fuck it" and start airing half an hour of SimpsonsWave every Sunday. I'd probably watch it then.

I wouldn't mind that or basically what they do in those couch gags, since that was pretty artsy as well. It would be like a perfect deconstruction and reconstituted version of "our favorite family". It's a show you either get or you don't!

EDIT: I think the equivalent of what Fatal Farm did with Garfield is what I'm going after!

The idea of the Simpsons being about one specific family member baffles a young'un like me.

I haven't watched the simpsons in so long; I think the last season I watched was season 1o, but I heard that the Simpsons has gotten so bad. If that's the case, how the hell does it keep going? Especially since Groening shit-canned Futurama again (Or rather, finished it. Still, Futurama has much more potential to do stuff than the Simpsons does, for obvious reasons). Is Groening allergic to creativity all of a sudden?

Matt didn't shit can Futurama. It got cancelled due to low ratings.

There's a two part answer:

Fox keeps it going as a tool to promote the merchandise in which case they made 1 billion per year just from merch. This was confirmed by the writers of the show.

Terrible things tend to go on much longer than expected. Really bad shows like Wings or Small Wonder still had relatively long runs. Take something that bad and graft it onto a show that had a successful past. And so long as there's a segment of people who don't have home internet and don't have basic cable or access to video games then there's going to be an audience for later day Simpsons.

I'm so glad Futurama ended before its legacy was tarnished. It's last two or three seasons after the movies were horrible. Full of Simpsons-like Apple references etc, losing all the charm of the earlier seasons... Though they did have a few good eps, e.g. Game of Tones ending.

You know, I never got the hatred for the post movie seasons that much.
I will agree on the fact that those seasons are weaker overall. But at the same time they still had some really good episodes here and there and funny moments even in episodes that sucked. Not to forget it was still overall of higher quality than Simpsons if you ask me.
sorry, but I was happy overall with what I got.
