It was a masterpiece because it was neither preachy nor unfunny about the topic of vegetarianism.

It's not like Lisa was infallible in the early seasons anyway. Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy, Lisa's Rival and Lisa the Iconoclast were all perfectly cromulent episodes and they all three showed that Lisa can be wrong.

At this point it clearly doesn't matter what they write as long as it occupies space on the screen they will continue to get paid to do it.
I can't really blame them for just throwing some shit on paper.
