It was boomers, Tucker Carlson, and Fox News. Tucker is shown endorsing Putin for president, so Russia too I guess.
Also it's the rich who make all the monies which of course conveniently ignore all those precious big chungus celebrities and company that the Simpsons worships nowadays.

Like even without that, this episode was still pretty bad since like I can tolerate media being soapboxy if everything else was entertaining, but I watched this episode to see how bad it was. Between Marge's VA sounding like she's about to lose her voice to watching Lisa and Moe rap about how society bad and vote out all republicans as though it's not all politicians across the spectrum who are scummy. This episode is just cringeworthy in every conceivable way.

The funny part is all the musical shit starts in the last 10 minutes and it's really bad, and then in the end has a joke about how being a Firefighter is the best job.

Ok between that and the covid/2020 election joke this show isn't even TRYING to be even remotely subtle anymore. I'd say they may as well just drop the act and say "we hate this politician because reasons and love this one because our masters say so." but they pretty much already have.

remember when political satire actually WAS satire and people knew what subtilty was? Not just on the Simpsons but in entertainment as a whole?

The issue is not the side the Simpsons takes or entertainment but how they do it. Simpsons just isn’t funny and just pointing out “Thing bad” with no substance to it. The show just is now a soapbox and will likely never die even when the voice actors are dead I won’t be surprised if they all get replaced since Marge’s voice actor sounds like she’d croak any second now.

Julie Kavner sounds like her vocal cords have been scraped out by voicing Marge. To put in it perspective try doing a Marge impression and take note of how your throat feels. Now imagine doing that as your day job for 30+ years. It tells us how her voice got to sound this bad, it still doesn't make it sound any more pleasant.

They seem to be overusing Lisa lately. This season alone we had plots where she took care of an octopus, befriended Shauna Chalmers, teamed up with Grampa, became self conscious about her weight, and met Bleeding Gums Murphy's son.

Considering Lisa is easily the least funny out of all the family members (excluding Maggie and the pets of course), having five main plots in one season being centered around her is a little ridiculous!

Kavner can still do Patty and Selma. They should keep her for those roles and recast Marge.
I'm pleasantly surprised that Patty and Selma are still allowed to smoke. I thought for sure Disney would put a stop to that.

I love your avatar btw. Robot Chicken is the shit!

Being from the Simpsons, I'm sure it will be a hard hitting satire on what lead to the economy going into the toilet. Stuff like the blunders of the current Presidential administration, Covid lockdowns, needless antagonism with Russia, and corporations buying more and more wealth in this country. It won't just be "gas is expensive and we don't know why lol amiright?".

"All of us just didn't do enough to flatten the curve,
and killed off Build Back Better - what a shame to observe.
Now I know most of you listening will think I've got some nerve,
when I just come out and say we're getting what we deserve - thank you!
"

"I just wanna share some truth here in a little refrain,
about the kinda folks who've all got bats in the brain.
They've joined in a sad alliance - all 'cause they don't trust the Science,
but in the end they've made the rest of us share their pain!"

Not to mention she has the role of the smug voice of reason so she also plays prominent supporting roles.

Seems to me like the simpsons is gonna end up like the looney tunes.
Generations will grow up knowing who they are, if they watch it they might wonder why anyone cares about something so lackluster.
Until they go back to the originals will they see why.

Think some kid watching that dark looney tunes show on kids WB like 20 years ago and thinking its lame but then going back to the ones from the 40s and enjoying it.

Remember that shift around Season 3 or so when the show started focusing on Homer rather than Bart?

The writers attributed that to realising they were now more Homer-esque.

Make of that what you will...

"Wow dad now you can be a republican because your'e rich and greedy and not cause you're old and don't know how to change the channel."

Followed by almost the remainng runtime being the writer's preaching "RICH BAD!" Hey for no reason in partactular here's the net worth of a few key people involved with the show. They've been some of the worst writers or are the current ones.

AL jean $200 Million
John Frink $1.4 Million
Tim long $1.5 Million
Lonne Steele $600,000
Christine nagle $700,000

So yeah either the writers don't have a moral high ground to stand on when it comes to critizing the rich because they are the rich (albeit far from the super rich) Or they're just jealous because they're not raking in the millions they thought being a writer on a show like the Simpsons would bag them.

You'd think with a salary like that the jokes wouldn't be newspaper comic-tier.

I never believed that. I think that FOX made them take the focus off Bart because so many of those busybody parents' groups were boycotting the show.

Then why focus on Homer? The slow-witted ADULT who's a terrible role model?

Either way, I'm saying the problem is the writers room is full of people who are more likely to identify with Lisa Simpson now.
