Eh, not to go "Well, ackshually..." but if it's the one I'm thinking about, I don't think Grandpa Simpson was actually retconned as being gay.

IIRC, a closeted gay man mistook his friendly gestures and kissed him back in the 40's and the man got fired from his job after Abe reported him, which gave him a sense of deep guilt.

Basically, the episode was Grampa Simpson trying to make peace with that gay man and that was about it. Unless Zombie Simpsons did yet another follow up, and I would not be surprised if they did.

The episode itself was a shitty episode, typical Zombie Simpsons pablum,
Indeed, compared to that, "The Principal and the Pauper" looks like a masterpiece.

And when Gil is a lawyer, ugh....I miss Lionel Hutz...
You can usually tell what Simpsons era a character came from. Characters from the Golden Age like Moe, Apu, and Mr. Burns tended to transcend their respective stereotypes thanks to the show's great writing, with even bit characters like Bumblebee Man and Ranier Wolfcastle getting bits of depth here and there. Compare that to characters that debuted in the Mike Scully seasons onward, Gil included, which are generally either one-dimensional gag characters or weak attempts to elicit sympathy from the audience.

Just came across this and it's a horrifyingly accurate assessment.

Old characters were versatile and could be used for many different roles. Moe wasn't just used for bar jokes and prank calls, need someone to be involved with some kind of petty crime? Moes your man. Have a sex offender joke you want to make? Here's Moe. He was a character you could use for many different jokes and plotlines without seeming out of character. Krusty wasn't just an obvious ripoff of Bozo the Clown, he was used to satirize late night talk shows, sketch comedy, jewish entertainers, stand up comedy, and much more. Nowadays he would be a one off knock off of Steve from Blues Clues or something. Old writers had imagination and creativity while the new writers can only copy what they have already seen.

Worse. A musical crying about the economy.
Being from the Simpsons, I'm sure it will be a hard hitting satire on what lead to the economy going into the toilet. Stuff like the blunders of the current Presidential administration, Covid lockdowns, needless antagonism with Russia, and corporations buying more and more wealth in this country. It won't just be "gas is expensive and we don't know why lol amiright?".

Boomers and Trump, you watch.

Not even South Park is allowed to utter the Zombie's name, what makes you think a show as leftist as The Simpsons could?

No, they're more likely to blame Trump, Russia, "selfish Corona deniers", and "climate change" over any of the "good" guys.

Back to classic Simpsons... what's a B story which is better than the A story? Has to be Bart learning ballet. Not to say the A is bad, but the one off Eastern European ballet teacher is great. Loved to have seen her again when the show was at least Ok.

Edit: haha knew there was a reason why I liked her. It was Susan Sarandon voicing her.

I've always been partial to all the family's little b-plots where they are unhappy in You Only Move Twice, Bart in special needs class, Marge drinking, Lisa being allergic to everything, but then I guess those don't really outshine the main plot, do they?

Maybe Uncle Moe's Family Feedbag from Bart Sells his Soul or the swear jar from Bart the Lover?

So remember that episode where home ate the insanity peppers and hallucinated? Well apparently it IS possible to have a drug like reaction to high doses of capsicum. It's apparently a side effect from the brain releasing dopamine as a painkiller to recover from the inflammation reaction capsicum causes.

However to go on a full on lsd trip the capsicum dose required would more than likely cause severe indigestion or stomach bleeding possibly even cardiac arrest.... So it's not worth taking the risk.

It's alright but that "Conservative bad" (even if technically the Democrats weren't portrayed as significantly less corrupt) was a sign of horrors to come.
tbh I think there's a bit to be said that part of it as a parody of the cartoonish stereotypes libs have of republicans, but yeah it's probably just they really think dracula
The Simpsons are in the new chip and dale movie on Disney plus btw. Obligatory mention because it's practically a featured event of the weekend around here.
Give them....*tries not throw up in y mouth* some credit they got the bootleg blue shirt thing right...
