Princess Weekes regrets the media hysteria about this movie potentially causing a mass shooting. Not because it was fucking stupid, but because it backfired and ended up giving the movie free publicity. So yeah, she admits there was an agenda to make this movie fail.

And of course gratuitously chimps out about the Gary Glitter song, even though that child molester doesn't get a cent from his music any more. And it's also an instrumental other than "Hey." And was used in sports events for 30+ years. So who gives a flying fuck?

My local sportsball stadium played that song for basically my entire life. Hell I didn't even know it was from Gary Glitter until people started freaking out over its use in Joker, which I think speaks to how you could very easily ignore that it was made by a pedophile. Of course, these types don't give two shits about sports unless the players are doing their stupid political grandstanding so they wouldn't complain about sporting events using the song.

The UK has been complaining about that for over 20 years, only now do those scumbags give a shit

If this movie was done exactly the same but with a woman, POC, gay, or trans character, they would have left the movie theater seats soaking wet instead of acting like it personally tried to murder them.

So only women, poc, gays and trans should be portrayed as psychotic mass murderers? Sounds like something they'd say the patriarchy supports.

Only they can be sympathetic villains.
The most hilarious thing is that often when this is done the villain that POC/woke leftists love ends up looking like a total freakazoid psycho instead of coming off as relatable. Just look at the villain from Black Panther and how much the movie tried to portray him as a freedom fighter, but in any objective sense he's just an angry black man murdering his own people out of jealousy.

I mean, Killmonger was a man who was denied his heritage and noble title and raised outside of Wakanda, where he lived in a society that didn't give a shit about him being a scrappy kid living in the while his relatives live in an Afro-futurism wonderland. He's got sympathetic motivations, but he does horrible things.

Kind of like how Arthur Fleck is completely beaten down by society, struggling to get by, ignored by underfunded institutions designed to help him and is sympathetic, but then he does horrible things.

See, I'm of the opinion that both of these characters are sympathetic villains. I like sympathetic villains and you could have a villain of literally any combo of race, gender or sexuality and they can be interesting, because if there's anything I've learned from hanging around this forum or the greater internet, it's that literally anybody is capable of doing horrible things.

And that, my friends, is true equality.

You know the worst part of that shit? Killmonger was super high end special ops, if he was tired of being "sent into the field" do you know what he could have done? Retired from the service..and got a cushy ass job as security for a dumb rich person making 6 Figures a year while doing jack all, If he can beat the shit out of The Black Panther with no powers..dude can protect Miley Cyrus's drunk ass while asleep.

Fun little thing I noticed

Take a look how few articles are actually about nerd culture. They're suffering from editorial drift real bad.

I call this, "The Gawker Effect". This is when a glorified blogging site thinks it has some grand quest to be woke and starts blogging about "racism this" and "sexism that" instead of what what they originally set out to blog about. See "Cracked" and most other video game sites for other examples.

I can give a breakdown of why what @Water-T described happens, but before I do that I need to talk about something related.

Clickbait as we know it hasn't been profitable in a very long time. You'll hear the blue checkmark brigade declare otherwise, but in truth, the time when it was a viable business model died off ages ago. But it was profitable once, and how it rose and fell is pretty important to the subject at hand. See, the first clickbait sites didn't rise to prominence by actually gaining real popularity, by their own admission:

To get the posts moving, you have to first give them an advertising “boost”. Without this boost, it’s almost impossible to get the first necessary likes and shares. In a way, you need to game their algorithm to make it work, and the boost-feature is an important component in this procedure.

In short, none of their growth was organic: they figured out exploits in Facebook's recommendation algorithms, and ways to basically ensure that every article they excreted could get into the recommended pool. Once they were there, rage-bait titles would eventually drag in the clicks, and because of how the algorithm worked, they'd wind up being the front-listed articles. In essence, they were cheating the entire system. All was good until 2016, when Facebook had enough of this shit and went out of its way to murder clickbait on its platform, plugging the algorithmic holes they were exploiting and de-ranking the biggest offenders after tens of thousands of user complaints. After this, Clickbait basically died as a viable business model for journalism.

All of this finally brings us to what Water-T was getting at.

When these journos used to work on clickbait sites, since outrage drove traffic, their tendency to push Progressive politics fit the business model well. The thing is, once the original Clickbait business model (dick-riding Facebook's algorihms) was over, they waddled on over to do the same thing at different outlets, hoping to draw in clicks with outrage. This sort of worked, but only for a very short time, as inevitably, the market wound up oversaturated with dipshits doing this. The argument that the journo class made was that these were the articles driving traffic, but in truth, they weren't drawing in users who wanted to stick around and view content, it was dragging in ragebait. And you can get ragebait at hundreds of other sites. The Progressives who will fap themselves raw over political sperging are not an audience interested in anything else, and this was captured nicely by the incident over at Deadspin, a sports site.

When Deadspin basically told its writers to cover sports or they would be shown the door, the journalists responded by refusing to do it, leading Deadspin to fire their head editor for refusing to do their job and allowing the entire editorial department to quit, whereupon they were not replaced, and this massively improved the company's finances. Deadspin just said "fuck it," wrote the entire branch off as a loss, and pocketed the difference.

The argument that the journo class made was that these were the articles driving traffic, but in truth, they weren't drawing in users who wanted to stick around and view content, it was dragging in ragebait.

And as often as not, it wasn't rage against whatever dumb, made up SJW bait of the day the story was nominally about, but rage against the outlet itself, their advertisers, and actual action taken to fuck their shit up and cost them money, while using archives or just ripping the content deliberately to avoid giving them clicks.

In short, none of their growth was organic: they figured out exploits in Facebook's recommendation algorithms, and ways to basically ensure that every article they excreted could get into the recommended pool.

Ironically, CollegeHumor went broke because Facebook convinced them that paying for ads on the site would lead to more viewers....and then it turned out that The Zuck fudged the numbers and they fell for it.

Karma's a bitch.

So, when the usual suspects cry about Russian hackers gaming Facebook's algorithms, aren't they raging against what made them successful five years ago?

Is it ever not projection with these asshats, Wallace?
