Now these ladies want a lesbian James Bond. I'm sorry, but that just goes against the concept of what James Bond is. I know the idea of a white cishet male having anything in the entertainment industry makes them sick. ("Why can't Spidey be pansexual?" or "How dare you make Dr. Strange white.") But a character like this would be better off as an original creation instead of a way to stick it da man.

It's already been established why the female Bond idea doesn't fucking work, in-universe and in actual practice. Why can't people just be content with leaving the established genders/races of fictional characters alone? Sometimes factors like gender, race, and sexual orientation do account for what makes a character who they are.

I wonder how people like this would react to the concept of a male Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

Or a white Shaft?

Didn't the failure of the Black Annie teach these guys anything?

Well I'd actually been thinking on this and I think it might be that they just want to be praised as 'progressive' for having a (insert minority here) main character without having to go to the effort of actually making their own. They're not creative people so they can't create something new, just take something else to send a 'message'.

Most likely. Though they're so arrogant they probably wouldn't admit that were they accused of it. They'd probably claim the media industry to be a bunch of racist patriarchs who would never allow such a thing to catch on with the public, all while completely ignoring fictional icons like Static Shock or Alice Abernathy.

The way they see it, being white means nothing. So a character's race being white basically means blank. Only by adding a "real" race to them do they become a real character. This is why making Spiderman black is acceptable because it is seen as improving the character, but making a black character white is seen as taking something away from the character.
Why, yes, that is retarded.

I think another part of it is laziness. It's easier to demand that a creator change their hard work to suit you than to go out and create something for yourself. These people want to be catered to, which is hugely hypocritical for a group people who constantly accuse others of being entitled. For example, they want more black superheroes. Fine. There's nothing wrong with that, but they don't want to create new characters with new stories and histories, they just want to take something that is already established and change it. They don't want something new, they want the old changed to suit them and if anyone complains they get called racists/sexists/homophobes etc...

Discussing my own experiences for a moment: I used to write a lot of fanfiction when I was younger but eventually I reached the point where I had to change the characters so much to fit into my story that they were barely connected to the original characters. That's when I realised I had to stop writing fanfiction because it was both a creative limitation and I had the respect for the characters to realise that what I was doing was wrong. I was taking someone else's work and bastardising for own usage. But what the people pushing for Black Spiderman are doing is demanding that the comic be changed to suit their fanfiction. I think the MarySue would have called it cultural appropriation but that's melodramatic bullshit. Sorry if this got off-topic.

As much as I agree with what you post, there IS a black Spiderman.

His name is Miles Morales and this is pretty much the only example of changing an established character's race that worked. Primarily because Spiderman is just a dude in a suit, and also that Miles Morales was his own fucking character. He had a background and ambitions that were different to Peter Parker, and I believe he became Spiderman through tech rather than being bitten by a radioactive spider.

I knew black Spiderman wasn't a race-flipped Peter Parker, I was just using him as a well-known example of taking an established superhero and making him different instead of creating a new hero entirely. The character is different, but the hero is pretty much the same. I'm actually pretty OK with Miles Morales because its more like what they did with Batman and having new people take up the title and change the hero a little.

I definitely agree. There's also an air of passive-aggressive vindictiveness. They want revenge on these people for the slights of things their ancestors might've never done so any humiliation and loss of gains will appease them. But they don't want them to have any negative feelings (even sadness and frustration) in their sight.

Who the hell hires the writers for their website?

The writing on it is atrocious

I am very suspicious of them paying anything for these clowns, but if they do, both the site and the writers are scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as opportunities go.

TMS quality is just flabbergastingly bad even by the low standards of clickbait SJW outlets.

Jezebel, to pick a comparison, always had at least some good writers, and before going full SJW was often readable. It's still better than TMS.
