"I don't care if Scarlett enjoyed playing the Major, she still committed the forbidden crime of whitewashing!"

While it's true that she's not the best actress in the universe, whatever happened to getting the best person fit for the job regardless of race/sexual orientation/whatever?

Thing is though she does fit the job because of her race. I don't watch anime, but even a cursory glance at the show tells you her character is white. From what I've seen, that's how most of the Japanese audience wants it as well.

These people complaining about white-washing in this movie are effectively demanding the Japanese change their character to be more palatable to white Americans.

They missed the entire point of the original since they love to claim it's glorifying Stockholm Syndrome. They ignore (or failed to realize) the Beast isn't an abusive bastard, he's just spoiled and used to people doing whatever he wants them to. Belle only starts to spend time with him after the Beast realizes that ordering people doesn't work for non-servants and yelling only makes everyone afraid of him. But of course since it's a cishet white relationship that automatically makes it problematic, abusive, and promoting heteronormativity.

Bitch motherfucking please, Gaston was far more of an abusive bastard than Beast would fucking ever be. If Belle got together with the guy who demeaned her love for books, treated her like a trophy from the start to the end, tried to use her father as a bargaining chip (hurhur) to force her marry him, turned a whole town against Belle and her father, and openly tried to kill his rival-in-love... over the guy who was punished with Beast-dom for being unpleasant, had to learn his lesson about treating people better if he wanted to be respected, let Belle go when her dad was in genuine risk and refused to kill a guy who wanted to murder him... well, THAT would be Stockholm Syndrome in the making. But Belle chose the man who learned how to be a good guy over the jerkass who threw away all the chances he was given, so it doesn't exactly qualify as what these dumbasses think it does.

How TMS and so many fandom feminists miss the point this badly is still beyond me.

(:late: I know, but still.)

Probably mentioned before, but Beauty and the Beast is an example of Lima Syndrome, the captor identifies with the hostage.

Personally id avoid viewing fairy tales in the context of 21st century morality and enjoy it on its artistic merit. But then again i read if I want philosphy so what do I I know?

Nothing. They don't understand narrative (or even basic context that a child could) and they don't care. They believe everything on planet Earth is sexist, racist and homophobic. Which is why it is never enough for them and telling them to shut the fuck up is the only answer unless you want to be constantly hounded by them. Give an inch, they'll take a mile.

Reminds me of this video where Triggerz tries to read some fairy tales to a college campus.

The character is Japanese in the way that a Toyota is Japanese, because she is a robot. Specifically modeled after a sex robot. So, Scarlett fits the job, because she looks like a fuck toy.

A 'fighting fuck toy' no less.
I never read that book, and it doesn't sound like I'm missing much. What happened in it exactly? I know it's about women losing their rights, but I'm guessing it wasn't to some kind of Islamic takeover given how much some members of the Islam Defence Force seem to like it.

Kiwi Farms.

But I'd hope you'd aim a little bit higher than exploiting the mentally handicapped.

I thought the original site was founded on the idea of exploiting a mentally handicapped person. Therefore..... from my short time here, and seeing so many plagued and infected tags on threads, related to autistic, obscure interests that the guys here are looking for exactly that. A cute girl that they can have deep autistic discussions with?

Please correct me if I am off the mark.

Holy shit, they're not even trying anymore.
Trailers tend to do a bad job of explaining why a movie will be great, so I’m gonna break it down for you. Here are super serious reasons to see The Beguiled:

  1. There’s only one dude. Men make up less than half the world’s population but take up 97% of screen time in film. To quote The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, “I’m no math major but this doesn’t add up.” This movie is a friendly reminder that guys are icky and you don’t need more than one.
  2. It was written and directed by Sofia Coppola. She’s a woman so that automatically makes it a good film. Never mind her previous works like The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette. Just focus on her gender as an indicator of quality.
  3. DC movies suck. No, this has nothing to do with the film, but I still felt the need to say it since that’s our thing now.
  4. Wish fulfillment. Who cares if the women protagonists are doing terrible things to this terrible man. There nothing better than the simple joy of seeing seemingly meek women enact their revenge against an unsuspecting dude. Ah, it warms my cold, death, man-hating heart.
