All this internal drama going on behind the scenes? I've been away too long it seems.

Shit, back when I played, the biggest issue going on was keeping the smelly neckbeards out of the hobby stores, and the owners having to post reminders directed at these assholes to shower before coming in.

How did a community that's almost exclusively populated with smelly neckbeards go sjw? Seems unlikely but I'm looking at it.

Isn't the alt japanese artwork supposed to drive sales in Japan?

Magic has like 8 games to compete against in Japan, plus mobile gacha games.

nah its actually for gaijin you can tell because theyve made japanese boosters available to purchase from wizards directly for games shops (generally they have to go third party to get foreign boosters)

now mooks will buy not only their booster boxes in english, but also buy some in glorious nipon

Trans + popularity increasing greatly among women now that entry level nerd stuff is cool. Yugioh is still the multicultural sausage fest it always was, but magic seems to have expanded from fat smelly white guys, to just fat white people.

There was one at our LGS that literally smelt of shit from what I could reckon. (He was so fat I doubt he could reach his ass to wipe) It was fucking horrible if I ended up at table next to him and it would throw me off my game a legit decent bit.

A little B.O. sure it's stinks, but I can live with it for the most part... that guy though, that was something else.

Least he stopped showing up recently.

The answer is surprisingly obvious.

Magic is populated mostly by the dregs of society, people who are social outcasts and spend their time and money on a collectible strategy fantasy card game. These outcasts have never been accepted anywhere and finally found a place where other players accept them for who they are (mostly out of necessity, because finding irl players isn't too common). Therefore you have a group of people that desperately want to be accepted, desperately want to fit in because everywhere else they go they're pariahs.

This is the perfect breeding ground for SJWs to invade. They come into a situation where the main demographic is used to being viciously bullied and are either desensitized to it or are already broken down by it, so the demographic gives no real pushback. No one wants to willingly leave the community because most of them have nothing left, so they concede little by little until the community is a shell of what it used to be.

Look at the communities these SJWs comes into. None of them try to co-opt traditionally high testosterone communities. The always go after the weakest groups. It's because if they try to co-opt fitness or sports, they get shut down immediately by men who aren't afraid to say no to a woman.

And also troons. I have no clue how they've managed to infest so much.

do we have a dox for Desolatormagic? his claims are geting more and more retarded. he was a professional writer now.

Plenty of the talking heads in the mtg community are true believers, but Hasbro makes the ultimate call. I think it’s just that WotC wants to focus their marketing toward what they see as the most profitiable group; middle to upper class white 12-20 year olds. From the mid 00’s onward, that group has generally shifted more and more “woke.” For all of Hambleburgers “Get Woke Go Broke,” reee videos, the strategy has played well for WotC from a money perspective MtG and DnD are more profitable now than they have ever been. Look at Hasbro stock. Businesses like Chic Fil A thrive when they buck the PC parade because middle age to elderly Fox News viewers will flock to their defense when libs come after them. Newsflash; they ain’t gonna flock to the local game store to buy up booster packs if WotC decides to go based. They hate that shit already.

I dunno, he might've just been referencing Gideons usual mana color. But I dunno, I could be wrong on that. I did go to the prerelease and played in a five round tourney. I pulled foil Lilly as my promo which was super hype ,since that's like 75 on average atm (and my live-in friend pulled Nicol Bolas dragon god in a pack, which is a 25 or so even). I honestly really enjoy this set, the power level of alot of these cards was a pleasant surprise considering standard has been predominately weak-sauce for a good while imo. And the art is actually really strong, Deliver unto evil is among my favorite cards artwise with Seb McKinnon releasing consistantly good stuff. Also, I think Lilly looks fine, I just don't like that she always looks so stoic on the material. Lilly of the veil looks really good because she's got this cocky smile and has alot of charisma because of it, and Defiant General just doesn't tap into that charisma at all.

Edit: Mechanics wise Defiant General is super fucking good tho. My aristocrats deck has been loving it since I can sack 2 gutterbones/shades with Priest of Forgotten gods, draw a card, but more importantly use the 2 mana it floats to get Lilly on the board turn 4 as opposed to six. then her plus one gives me another token to sack for value. And getting card draw for a creature dying in a format with Teysa Karlov is absolutely nuts. Gonna add Sorin in to replace dead revels and swim in the value.

Ow I'm aware what he's referencing it's just that if it was black walker that was black... whew lad.

Apparently this War of the Spark: Mythic Edition sold out in like 5 minutes but half the people that ordered it had their payment fail. Then it went back up 20 minutes later and was sold out by 3:30pm est.

Apparently lot of good salt on Reddit about it. I managed to snag 2 copies of it, I think. Least the payment went through on the second attempt when people noticed the sale was still up.

I guess putting JtMS & Ugin in there moved some boxes damn fast. Look forward to flipping it for 2-3x the price in 6 months.

Pretty lolworthy that it managed to crash the ebay shop even this time.

If Rudys Info are right you just tied up money with little chance of Return on investment.
The Printrun is HUGE if he is right.

Kitsune Kon Bans Youtuber ‘DesolatorMagic’ Due to Weapons Concerns
July 13, 2017 Trae Dorn 23 Comments Con Scene, Conventions, DesolatorMagic, Kitsune Kon
Kitsune Kon is taking place at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay, WI, but at least one person who planned on attending won’t be let in the door. The convention made an announcement earlier today stating that Youtuber ‘DesolatorMagic’ has been officially banned from the event due to safety concerns.
In a video posted on July 1st where DesolatorMagic announced he was attending the con, he stated “considering the sheer volume of threats I get on Twitter and on Youtube and Reddit and everywhere else — if you so much as look at me wrong, I’m probably going to stab you. So just FYI — you might not want to freak me out. You might want to come at me within my full vision arc and kind of slowly. That said, if you do want to fight me, just announce it first. No cheap shots, or I will shoot you.” In context it’s actually really difficult to tell how serious he is, but as DesolatorMagic repeatedly mentions he carries a gun in his other videos (and also talks about having had to pull it out), it’s clear he’s serious enough.
I mean, we’re talking about a guy who claims he had to once show his firearm during a dispute while playing Pokemon Go.
(Update 7/13: In our comments (but not in the video we learned this from), DesolatorMagic says “I pulled out a gun to stop someone following me at a high rate of speed in a dark alley and attempting to attack or rob me while playing Pokemon Go.” In a video posted earlier today on Youtube, he relates this same story and says that the person “following him” was scared off when he pulled out his gun.
While I believe that DesolatorMagic believes this story to be accurate, from what we’ve researched he appears to be a resident of Appleton, WI. As someone who has spent decades living in towns of similar size and crime rates… I find it hard to believe this person was attempting to rob DesolatorMagic. It sounds like some other guy happened to be in an alley at night, DesolatorMagic pulled a gun, and the other party got understandably scared. As he and the unknown party were the only ones present, they’re the only ones who truly know what happened that night, and this interpretation is just my personal opinion)
In their announcement, Kitsune Kon staff stated:
While this Youtuber has stated he has concealed carry, what he stated on the online video made some attendees very uncomfortable.
This situation was reviewed by our board, the hotel, and the Green Bay Police Department. The end decision was to apply the ban.
Now the official stance of the Hotel (which as a convention we have agreed with and chose to follow for safety of all in attendance) is that they do not allow any weapons of any kind (concealed carry or not).
DesolatorMagic posted a fairly angry rant in response to the ban. Contrary to what DesolatorMagic claims in that video though, Kitsune Kon does have a fairly straight forward policy against real weapons clearly posted on their website. The convention’s guidelines specifically prohibit bringing “…real firearms, live steel, or projectiles of any kind” into the con space.
This policy has been on their website for years, as can easily be confirmed using Archive.org.
In fact, this is an exceptionally common policy at fandom conventions, and should surprise absolutely no one. The fact that DesolatorMagic seems shocked by it simply shows how unfamiliar with the convention scene he is. He also makes bizarre claims showing how little he understands how conventions are run, or how an event like that manages security. Though I won’t be there this year, I’ve attended Kitsune Kon in the past and know several of their staffers. In my experience, they have handled security issues responsibly and professionally.
You know, like by taking steps to preemptively ban a guy who says he’s going to bring a gun.
Update 7/13: This story originally contained a partial quote from DesolatorMagic with a direct link to its source. As the video linked has now been deleted from Youtube, we have expanded the quote to provide better context
