To their credit, what are they supposed to do?
It didn't happen on their grounds, there's little to no police evidence it happened, the man is a known liar, his fanbase are known spergs, barring the guy deleting all of his social media shit there's no solid proof he's even the guy who hit him (from their perspective, we obviously know it's an indication), if he was even "attacked" like he said it was and not just an every day bar bitchslap episode, etc and so on. Just look at reporters and news websites just saying "We can't find any police report as of this time", his legion of faggots are for the most part accusing them of helping cover it up.
This might just be my intense, autistic A-Logging just because I hate poor sweet intelligent Jeremy so very much for absolutely no reason, but look at the situation as a convention organizer and ask yourself what good even something like "Even if an incident occurred, we certainly don't condone any violence towards anybody ever."
There are a number of things that they should have done to cover their asses legally.
1. They should have been vetting their vendors and this guy, with his "punch Nazis" shirt, his open threats of intimidation, violence and premeditated plans to assault patrons and start fights... never should have been allowed in. Either as a result of EXTREME ignorance/neglect they booked a crazy, violent fuckin nut job as a vendor.
And the law doesn't recognize ignorance/neglect as a very good excuse in most cases.
2. Upon hearing of the altercation they should have IMMEDIATELY contacted authorities and worked with them to try and find who was responsible for the attack. Instead it seems they just outright ignored the whole thing even though there was more than ample evidence that it directly involved patrons of THEIR convention.
Normally, if you run a convention, you need to make sure you stay on shit like that simply so you don't wind up black balled, even if it may NOT be directly related to your convention. There are a LOT of people who HATE these sorts of conventions and look for ways to try and pressure hotels and city leaders into denying permits and so forth for their venues, which is why you need to stay vigilant, have lawyers, lots of volunteers to act as glorified mall cops, talk to police, etc, etc, etc. If your convention becomes synonymous with crazy stupid shit, whether it's violence or, like in the case of the now defunct Rainfurrest, plastering shit filled diapers on people's cars... you will no longer have a convention.
3. They should have issued a statement about the situation, not necessarily naming names, but a statement regarding the attack and how they were working with police, beefing up security, etc, etc in order to address and alleviate fears and concerns of patrons of their convention. Again, ESPECIALLY as it involved one THEIR patrons and, most importantly, one of THEIR OWN VENDORS. Instead, again, they simply IGNORED everything and pretended like it never happened and did nothing to try and alleviate fears and concerns of their patrons.
4. Upon even the slightest HINT of learning that it was one of THEIR OWN VENDORS, they should have IMMEDIATELY removed said vendor/booth, contact the police (again), let them know that it was potentially one of THEIR OWN VENDORS who was responsible and again should have worked with law enforcement to try and track the guy down... instead I guess they've just got a crazy maniac on the loose and... they just don't care!
5. They will be sued... the city will potentially be sued... the hotel where the convention is at will potentially be sued... they ARE legally liable for this shit. Make no mistake about it, they fucked up in so many different directions the best they can hope for at this point is to try and make some kind of deal with Jeremy to entice him into NOT pursuing litigation against them... because they will lose. Neglect and ignorance are not favorable traits in the eyes of the law, especially when it comes to personal injury lawsuits.
They are FUCKED on a level I don't think most people even realize at this point... I don't think they've even realized it themselves. If they have any sense at all they will get a lawyer, right God damn now and do exactly what the lawyer tells them to do before they wind up screwing themselves even further.
