Curiously, the bar refused to call the police following the attack, and, when Jeremy went to the police, they basically wrote him off, asking why the bar didn't call the police themselves and refusing to take a report.

This isn't how real life works. Bars don't automatically call the police every time some pasty, overbearing loudmouth like Jeremy gets pushed around. But the police? They take reports over lesser offenses everyday. Nothing is showing up in the report database.

There's a good chance Hambly didn't even try and won't file the report. If Loter keeps his head down the Internet anger brigade will move on.

He claims the dispatcher said the cop didn't even file the report.

Says it can take 7 days for it to show up as well

EDIT:
Looks like he has filed a report

No, he said that the police closed the report. There should still be one since they take reports from crazier people everyday. There's no Indiana Police conspiracy against pasty, fat nerds. #MTGLivesMatter

If there's nothing after 7 days, Jeremy didn't file it correctly. Crying to a dispatcher isn't the same as meeting with an officer to file a report.

Ah my volume was a little low so I misheard. My bad.

Gencon's stream mods apparently are actively banning anyone who mentions the incident in chat.

They're also blocking and reporting people who ask about it on Twitter.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. I really don't trust Jeremy's accounts at face value.
He's a sensationalist Autist. A wildly entertaining sensationalist Autist, mind, but an Autist nonetheless.

However, in this case, we've got a big ol' mound of stuff that really does cement a few things:

1. We know the incident happened, if nothing else. We don't know for sure how injured Jeremy is or not, or the full details of how the assault happened, but we know for damned sure that an assault happened, and several few witnesses saw it.

2. We know Gencon is trying actively to disavow any knowledge of it.

3. We know who allegedly did it, we know they have a long history of threatening violence, and they proceeded to delete fucking everything and go full lockdown once his identity became known.

We're gonna have to wait for all the details to come in. No matter what happens, there'll be plenty of Autism for us to enjoy.

From what I've read, the dude who jumped Jeremy was a featured speaker or some shit for GenCon. (The post I read has been updated with Matt Loter is unconfirmed, but apparently there was some fuckery with the GenCon page too)

It was Matt Loter.

More data

Might explain why they're in full damage control mode.

ANd of course the dude has shitty sleeve tattoos.

Sleeve tattoos, Krav Maga, and a "Punch Nazis" shirt going to GenCon.

You just know he's a fucking sped.

I'd be surprised if Indy metro cops do anything unless a big stink gets raised. As far as they'd be concerned it was a drunken bar fight that resulted in property damage and no injuries, and the bar management wasn't cooperating on the spot. Considering Loter already went on full social media lockdown mode, if he's smart he already fled the state, and considering in Indiana battery is a class B misdemeanor he's not extraditable. So at this point, to the best of my knowledge it'd go to a prosecutor, they'd review the case and make the decision to file for an arrest warrant; by the time that happens Loter will be out of state, so there's no reason to proceed. But I'm not a legal professional, that's just what I remember.

What bugs me is that by all accounts, this shouldn't be a big thing for Gencon itself.

They could have released a completely generic statement of "Your letter has been read fully, and your thoughts have been inputed and accepted for better improvement. Thank you for your time and efforts. This did not happen on Gencon property, and the police have been informed, also violence is bad and will not be tolerated" and that probably would have done it.

Instead they went with a response that makes them look like they were somehow involved with it.

Even if you think Jeremy's a liar that's a terrible fucking decision.

This is an interview with the guy Hambly is claiming is his assailant. Seems like a stable individual.

Though I should also be clear that there movements and segments of these underrepresented and discriminated against populations that aren’t for us to all be pushing into. There are times we can take leadership roles, and there are times we need to just shut the fuck up and listen to how we can help, if we’re even invited to that table. A big part of dismantling that fucked up power structure is recognizing our own positions of power and actually ceding some of that. It’s exciting to lead the charge against oppression, but much less so to actually live that day to day. It’s always a struggle to keep thoughtfully approaching these things and constantly questioning your own motivations and actions.

But then there is also a time to just start punching Nazis. Cause fuck those guys.

Nazis certainly need to be punched. I'm all for it.

Very much so. And I’m in a position of privilege being a dude who isn’t small and literally teaches fighting to people (Krav Maga), so my experience with threats and violence is very different from a lot of people who have much more pressing concerns about their own safety and security. Not everyone has that ability, and we absolutely need to not judge anyone in that position. There is a world of difference between not giving a shit and being worried about your safety. All the more reason why I feel even more of an obligation to be loud about this shit; it’s one of the things that I am well suited to and can really support people with.

So yeah, smash the heteronormative capitalist patriarchal super state.

But also, check out the cool stuff we make?

Fuck yeah.

Thanks for answering my questions!

Of course. Thanks for letting my run my big mouth!

I'm so sad that this shit is happening at Gencon, which was supposed to be a place where we could all just get together and have fun with board games. Now, with this guy, Anita guest paneling, and the whole gay pride merch issue, it seems like even my one chance to have fun and meet other people like me is getting infected. Shit like that is why I don't play Magic there. As far as I know, nobody has gotten punched during Red Dragon Inn.... Unless somehow doing a Conan accent while playing as the barbarian is an insult to Austria.

EDIT: I'm there today, gonna look for this guys booth. Maybe I can get some sort of explanation from the man himself.

Know what's funny is in the initial video Hambly says "I-I could have made it a fair fight... but he didn't want a fair fight..."

Fatty boy couldn't have actually fought this guy. If "the attack" happened the way he said it did I'm amazed he didn't leave actual bruising on him. Dude's a queer but he seems to actually be legitimately built, I'm thinking he might have gotten popped once upside the head, went to "fight", got knocked over, and ran.

He ended up having what? A scratch on his arm (close to his armpit somehow) and popped buttons on his shirt.

Oh shit, please let them try and take this in a "They knew beforehand! They knew I'd be hunted down and attacked!" angle. Knowing Hammyham he'll fucking exaggerate it out of habit and claim they went so far as to collude with the police prior to anything happening and that's why they didn't want to help him.

Probably an accurate prediction tbh

Or alternatively the guy that had a pop at him isn't quite the anti-fa Bruce Lee that he thinks he is and is fact a larping faggot who couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag.

The story around the assault of The Quartering’s Jeremy Hambly appears to be getting worse. The promoters of the Gen Con are now silencing attendees who are fearful for their safety and are questioning Gencon’s silence over the assault. In fact, they are actively crushing ANY discussion on the manner.

They are specifically using 1984 style tactics on their Twitch channel. They first began giving users short bans if they brought up the assault, but then resorted to completely wiping their stream chat and limited it apparently to people who have been following for three months.

Thanks to several Twitter users proof of the bans are clear. One user who was watching the GenCon live feed was told they were banned because “this isn’t the place to discuss this.”

While GenCon appears to be banning people and silencing those asking about the alleged assault against The Quartering, they have remained silent about his alleged assaulter despite their own Ethics & Conduct stating that “Violating any federal, state or local laws, facility rules or convention policies … constitute grounds for explusion from the convention without refund.”

In fact, their policy instructs people to “seek out Gen Con Event Staff or Gen Con Security to report the incident.”

Given they still have not released a statement regarding one of their one exhibitors being accused of assault one has to wonder if Gen Con’s silence means other attendees could be at risk. Are they protecting a client who has a booth over attendees?

Or could their silence be politically motivated? If you happen to think the wrong way, well then it appears Gencon won’t do its due diligence when it comes to any possible violence you might face.

As for the attack itself. That sort of behavior is unacceptable. I don’t care if you’re someone I passionately disagree with. You don’t cross the line and take disagreements and turn them into violence. Shoe, another fellow YoTtuber like Jeremy Hambly, had a fair and clear statement about that very line of thinking in the thread below:

sorry there’s a huge difference between someone who openly advocates for an ethnostate and someone who just rants about nerd media online and has opinions you don’t like. you just like seeing people you dislike get hurt. that’s fucking weird.

— shoe (@shoe0nhead) August 2, 2018

Jeremy provided an update that was both disappointing and inspiring:

It’s inspiring that Jeremy decided to stay for the duration of Gencon. But it’s a sad state of affairs when a police department at the very least is neglectful in its duties, and at worse refuses to protect an innocent citizen from a clear case of battery. The precedent this is set not only for Gencon but for other cons is that they’re accepting to violence. or at least willing to throw a blind eye.

However, he did confirm that he just spoke with the police and filed a full report. He’s not confident that Indianapolis police officers will make the arrest, but he believes his assaulter will eventually be arrested.

As of this writing, the location of the alleged attacker, Matt Loter, is unknown and he’s still at-large.

What do you make of Gen Con’s silence on this matter? What do you think about them banning their users from discussing it?

Wow, that's really pathetic that GenCon is so desperate to shield this guy. Does he even do anything important? I could almost understand if a con ran interference for a Harlan Ellison or somebody who actually mattered.
