Why do you hate yourself? Can't run a cable?a real wireless NIC
Still leaking memory, still breaking extensions (that are written in Javascript, but I think that's the case for Cinnamon as well). Is Guh-nome still complete shit? Hoooooooly fuck I hated Guuuh-nome.
I jumped into Linux via ubuntu and I loved it, I actually liked gnomes look too, being a less is more type but the thing just slowly kills itself. I always ended up with leaks or losing the DE randomly on reboot, sometimes unable to get it back (nvidias fault tbf) and the way it runs so janky on scaled x11 just bothered me too much eventually.
Cinnamon was what ultimately ended up as home for me, everything Guuuuuuuuuh-nome did well but stable and running like butter on x11 on a big screen.
I also add that KDE Plasma is complete troon shitware and I have no idea how anyone lasts more than an afternoon on that bag of unpolished turds.
I remembered liking XFCE too, but it scaled pretty poorly.
Honestly I enjoy the feel and look of the KDE applications the most. SteamOS was what got me into Linux, so familiarity plays a role. I'll have to look more into KDE Linux for sureWhat exactly is it about KDE that you enjoy? Although it doesn’t have the deep level of granularity that KDE has, where you can make it that if you eject your cd drive on a Tuesday it’ll change your wallpaper, Linux Mint’s Cinnamon DE is fairly similar and much more stable.
Otherwise if you really want KDE then try KDE Linux?
It's 2026. Why the fuck do I want to be tethered to a room when I've got a mesh network? Why do you hate yourself? Can't run a cable?
Enjoy your packet loss. It's 2026. Why the fuck do I want to be tethered to a room when I've got a mesh network?
Have you looked into TUXEDO OS? From what I heard it's now being rebased on Debian Testing and ships with latest KDE Plasma. Haven't tried it myself but I have heard some good things about it.I chose Debian for being pretty akin to Ubuntu with the APT package manager while avoiding Canonical's AI pushing shit they're doing now. What you're saying makes sense though. I was running Arch pretty much perfectly before this with no problems but after the malware fiasco (I don't consider myself online or literate enough in Linux to parse which packages to install correctly) I'm avoiding it. Do you have any suggestions for a distro that would work better with KDE considering what I wrote about?
lol like it matters with a 100Mb OTA pipe?Enjoy your packet loss.
So the port of Linux mint from ubuntu to Debian is gonna involve a lot of under the hood stuff Ubuntu did to make it a full drop in replacementI’ll admit I’m not too familiar with the efforts you’re referring to, is it not just porting Cinnamon and the mint apps to Debian?
I'm on fiber and can saturate 100Mb easily. There isn't a wireless I haven't tried. Give me wired for almost everything. I notice loss and it chafes my autism.lol like it matters with a 100Mb OTA pipe?
What the fuck are you on about? I've been running KDE on Debian stable for eons.To be fair KDE is fundamentally dangerous. Its a rolling release meaning that any slower moving distros like Debian/Ubuntu will always be out of date, and it's so pervaseive in all the points it touches in the system
Cinnamon is a LOT more secure in comparison, it's more focused on stability and doesn't tunnel into all of the crevices of the system as much.
I would avoid any derivative distros.Have you looked into TUXEDO OS? From what I heard it's now being rebased on Debian Testing and ships with latest KDE Plasma. Haven't tried it myself but I have heard some good things about it.
Tuxedo OS seems to have paid support behind it since it’s a distro for a hardware manufacturer, no idea if that helps or not thoughI would avoid any derivative distros.
That's neat. I don't stream, and don't share Linux ISOs. I just shitpost a few hours a day, and I could do that on dialup.I'm on fiber and can saturate 100Mb easily. There isn't a wireless I haven't tried. Give me wired for almost everything. I notice loss and it chafes my autism.
just skipDo i have to do the verify/Integrity check ISO steps when first installing Linux Mint or is this skipable? I am brand new to linux
Only if you have reason to be concerned that your iso is corrupt or tampered with. If you’re not with shitty internet and you’re not a bitcoin millionaire or something you will be fine.Do i have to do the verify/Integrity check ISO steps when first installing Linux Mint or is this skipable? Thanks. I just finished setting it up on my thinkpad. Now im down the rabbit hole.Only if you have reason to be concerned that your iso is corrupt or tampered with. If you’re not with shitty internet and you’re not a bitcoin millionaire or something you will be fine.
