To be fair KDE is fundamentally dangerous. Its a rolling release meaning that any slower moving distros like Debian/Ubuntu will always be out of date, and it's so pervaseive in all the points it touches in the system

Cinnamon is a LOT more secure in comparison, it's more focused on stability and doesn't tunnel into all of the crevices of the system as much.
Once cinnamon goes Wayland ill be really interested
I use xorg just fine but I want competition in the Wayland space and cosmic isn't cutting it for me yet

In theory that will happen this fall or winter, the next version of mint has been delayed until it is complete

I'd laugh if Cinnamon's Wayland implementation ends up being the best implementation because it doesn't have the stupid unstable or restricted shit that Plasma and Gnome's implementations have.

With the way mint and cinnamon do things I wouldn't be surprised if they saved the fuckin Linux desktop
I feel like I'm the only one whos seriously impressed with their lmde efforts on a technical level

I can't say I'm sold on anything Wayland but if the Cinnamon devs manage to decouple from FreeDesktops lunatic gospel of security that cripples its viability as a converts first step, it would be a considerable wise first impression.

How do you guys deal with AI crawlers on your home server? I got anubis, but some other bots are bypassing it. I had to block windows and macos user agents, but the other day I saw some using android user agent instead. Soon I'll have to block everyone except linux desktop users from accessing my server to make it usable.
The AI crawlers kill my server, making all cores run at 100% which results in the server timing out requests.
Do said bots have a display going on? In JavaScript, you can analyze the user's window size. If there is no window at all, then that means the user is browsing headless. Headless browsers are typically bots

You can run Chrome Headless to scrape. It is more resource intensive, of course.

I love LMDE too, nothing wrong with choosing the debian base.
Mint basically saved me on Linux, if Cinnamon did not exist I think I would be on some pos rig making Windows 7 work for me.

Also this is what your average KDE Plasma dev looks like:
averagekdedev: %22KDE is Antifa%22.png

I’ll admit I’m not too familiar with the efforts you’re referring to, is it not just porting Cinnamon and the mint apps to Debian?

I've been using LxQT, the replacement for LXDE, and honestly its simplicity is helpful for me. I was interested in Trinity (the KDE 3 independent development) but dragging in the taskbar ended up too useful. Also, the text editor I use is mousepad and the standard xfce clipboard and thunar. Being able to switch between DE's is one of the best thing about the platform. It used to allow a user to switch the window manager/desktop environment in debian, but I haven't seen the shortcut in the menu for some time and forgot the command. I still use tomboy and sddm, which I don't think even gets support anymore in the repositories

My 4060ti just cannot stop shitting the bed when it comes to my KDE/Debian system. For the third time now, updating the firmware for Debian just, somehow, completely nullifies the drivers I have and it locks me out of my desktop. I think it's time to "upgrade" to a 7600XT just so I can avoid this shit.

EDIT: I'm also more than happy to admit I am a linux noob who just wants things to work out of the box. I'm basically just a picky Windows user.

You’re running KDE, a rolling release desktop environment, on Debian, a long term support distro. Generally that’s one of the worst combinations you can run from a security and stability standpoint, unless you have added a third party repository with the latest version of KDE

I had this with nvidia and fedora.

I ended up moving to AMD and will avoid NVIDIA for graphics.

I chose Debian for being pretty akin to Ubuntu with the APT package manager while avoiding Canonical's AI pushing shit they're doing now. What you're saying makes sense though. I was running Arch pretty much perfectly before this with no problems but after the malware fiasco (I don't consider myself online or literate enough in Linux to parse which packages to install correctly) I'm avoiding it. Do you have any suggestions for a distro that would work better with KDE considering what I wrote about?

Absolutely hoping that I can never have to think about NVIDIA again after I save enough to get an AMD card. I've got 16gb of DDR4 ram that I'm gonna barter with on Facebook Marketplace, like I'm on the Silk Road or something.

What exactly is it about KDE that you enjoy? Although it doesn’t have the deep level of granularity that KDE has, where you can make it that if you eject your cd drive on a Tuesday it’ll change your wallpaper, Linux Mint’s Cinnamon DE is fairly similar and much more stable.

Otherwise if you really want KDE then try KDE Linux?

I always recommend MX. It's not bleeding edge, but is reasonably up to date, and is generally less autistic than debian without the abject retardation of ubuntu fouling everything up.

Ignore the talk about KDE being a "rolling release". It has regular updates, like any package, and unfortunately suffers regressions on each new major version. 5 to 6 seems to have been particularly bad, what with the attempts to drop xorg for wayland. The problem with KDE on debian is that debian stable doesn't have the latest version (because they prioritise stability over novelty), so there's a chance bugs might not be addressed in a timely manner. Can be bad, can be good. Nothing to do with "rolling release" anything.
