If you don't have one, then stop evangelizing to Windows users to switch over to this and that. There's a reason everyone is hoping for Valve to make SteamOS a generic distro to finally save them from Windows, they cannot and will not trust the modern distro landscape because of how chaotic it is and they're hoping that with a company like Valve being responsible for maintaining a single distro, they'll make it so that it will "just werk" on any hardware configuration without any of these edge cases or confusing neckbeardisms that exist within Linux. Plus, by not having a single distro to recommend, you're gonna confuse people where they'd rather prefer to stay on Windows since they don't want to deal with thinking about what it is that they should use and what subset of distro specific issues they'd want to deal with, they don't want to deal with issues period and just use their shit without knowing how it works.
Firstly, I don't evangelize; people will ultimately use what they want. I specifically tell users that have no interest in learning how their OS works to not bother.
Secondly,
you fundamentally don't fucking get it. The whole point of using Linux, free software in general, is that you take responsibility for your own choices.
There is no right answer, and people will have their own opinions on what to use.
That means you have to be willing to do your own research, fix your own problems, and learn how to ask questions the right way.
Desktop Linux devs keep ignoring these fundamental issues and that's why desktop Linux will never take off in the form that it exists in today.
Who cares whether it takes off? I don't care if people use Desktop Linux.
I use it because I prefer it over the alternatives (and believe me, I've used every alternative). Not because I cared about what other computer users were doing.
recommending raw Debian/Arch to newbies is nigger behavior,
A guy I know moved to using Linux full-time this year. Total newbie. He is using Debian.
Guy asked me what I used (I don't recommend distros typically) and asked me to talk him through the installation process (which can be done in 10-20 minutes in a VM) and showed him where the Wikis were. He has been fine.
Toxic community that will keep pestering everyone to switch to Linux, then refuse to ever admit that their OS has an issue, instead they will gaslight the users into believing that they're the issue and insult them if they can't deal with these fringe issues the same way they can.
You keep on painting a broad brush on a huge and diverse (in the real sense of the word) user group and wonder why people call you a dumb cunt.
As per usual, what you are complaining about is a vocal minority of people that are probably on Reddit and pretending it is the entire community.
