Not that I am trying to derail the thread, but the sinos truly give the jeets a run for their money, especially when it comes to their culinary tastes.
I have never ever seen anyone eat live crab during my stay in China (nearly 10 years). She's likely a loon and it looks like live river crabs were being sold instead of it being street food. She's probably dead now because live crab is full of parasites. Cow piss and poop isn't standard in Indian food either.
Let's not forget their infamous gutter oil.
It's 2025, not 2008. Falungong needs to come up with something new. Gutter oil is still used, recyclers collect it for industrial use and sometimes they sneak around at night stealing gutter oil. I've read people being caught and punished for doing this. Chinese cooking demystified made a pretty good video on gutter oil.
Again this is voodoo quack medicine shit, the entire lot of "virgin piss" stuff were from the older days. That's like saying homoeopathy, dosing children with coke or similar variants are standard when it's just a few alt-medicine quacks. China has this stupid belief that eating what you're lacking is good, some take it to the extreme thinking literal child's piss will make them young, it's the basis of many quack medicine variants.
There was however another scandal back in 2000s where street food vendors soaked lamb skewers in goat piss so they "smell fresher". I also remember reading that some added poppy flowers in soup to try and make it more addictive.
