Made me think of the RRR movie in which there's this whole music sequence of the two main characters allegedly being bros, and included the men eating together off a bowl at a family gathering. According to the captions one of the women then matronly complains one of the guys was eating with X hand, which apparently is this WEIRD AND FUNNY joke about how one of the MAIN CHARACTERS in the movie eats using the same hand he cleans himself in the toilet.

Even during the Raj the rosters appear to be mostly Indians and not British colonials as I initially imagined. Obvious jokes about it being a women's only sport in the United States aside, why are(*) they oddly good at this?

*I was going to write "were" but they won back to back bronze medals the last two Olympics after a forty year medal drought.

UAE don't give a fuck about muh heckin' brown people. Once they're of no use they're deported. UAE and the like take away passports as soon as people come and work there (unless you're some prestige guy. Even research workers get their shit taken). So you're stuck until they're willing to let you go. And once they do, they'll make sure you get on the plane as soon as you have your passport back. No court case or anything for appeals.
 
Fun fact, the lions share of the poverty reduction that happened around the world due to globalization happened in China and east asia. India and Africa barey budged. My suspicions were confirmed, there is no way in hell that India and Africa are getting rich, the opposite is happening. Only the top 10% of jeets in the tech services sector are well off, the rest of india is still living in early victorian conditions but with cheap chinese mopeds and smarrphones.

To be fair, there's a significant coterie of Europeans who have minimal experience with South Asians so they naturally side against muslims in any confrontation between muslims and non-muslims. From the MAGA people I know, it's usually someone employed in tech who has to deal with many Indians but rarely someone from Pakistan so they side against India.

It was only after the fall of Rome that the immigrant populations were annihilated and the cities recolonized by Italians. The actual tl;dr is that when Augustus took over he feared the power of the citizen body so he ended conscription (the waning days of the Republic had twice the number of legions as the empire, but the Imperial number includes non-citizen cohorts) and shifted recruitment to outlying populations that were less of a threat. This is reflected in the comments by Tacitus of the increasingly servile nature of the citizen population in his Annals.

Jeets are already aging out, they'll never pull off a China miracle (doubtful even if they maintained above-replacement fertility). I will try and find it, but a major issue is that Indians don't like to hire outside of their caste due to the perennial trust issues in Indian society so they have the dubious distinction of having a large unemployment rate but also a labour shortage in unskilled industries. Will try and find the essay.
 
Only 1/3 of the population of the city of rome were citizens, slaves and noncitizens were forced to do the grunt work while citizens lived on the grain dole. They despised working and considered working for money to be as bad as slavery. It was a lot like modern dubai.

The cities massively shrunk after the imperial period since they could no longer be supplied with wealth and grain from the outside. The loss of Tunis was massive.

The waning days of the republic was after decades of war and civil unrest. Old armies were kept around for a long time because they were still needed, while fresh armies were raised as well. From the society war to the end of the second triumvirate there was a constant need for armies as both external wars and internal wars were happening. The empire needed far fewer because they had needed armies for different ends. A professional army loyal to the emperor was more useful than a militia that is cycled out every year. The republican Romans were also using plenty of non-citizens.
The Dilectus did last well into the imperial age and later emperors did sometimes use it. It just wasn't a regular thing like before.

The Romans accepted an emperor because they had known decades of civil war, including multiple manhunts with the proscriptions and multiple armies entering Rome. Augustus made the fighting stop, so they were fine with augustus.

There was a large patronage system in which poor citizens would go from mansion to mansion to get money or goods in return for their servitude. The graindole on its own wasn't that much.
