Tbh, that goes kinda against some of the movie stuff (that is clearly sexualised), but then again, this one is a separate canon.

My own bullshit writing (long-divorced from Hellraiser) ended in vaguely the same aesthetical postal code, but fully at the "purification through suffering" endgame.
I'm not dismissing the sexualization or the depravity, they're very much at the forefront of who the Cenobites are. I just think we are confusing their means with their ends. Like your interpretation of "purification through suffering" or my "understanding of the universe", these are what I see as their ends. The gooning, depravity, masochism and sadism are just their means to reach them. Which again contrasts with the cult, who seem to be focused on hedonism as the end itself.

Trying to rescue your awful girlfriend from a hellish dimension where she was ripped apart by hooks (after she gives you a vision where she asks you to rescue her), "An object to be won back, infantilized". Oh, tv tropes.

Again, I have to wonder why people use this retard site full of people that actually engage with the media they claim to love. The scene where Sunny is taken clearly depicts her as not being in her right mind (blank stare, droning tone of voice) and she even begs him to save her when he tried to leave the cult's club. Meanwhile the murder rape cult exists purely because the cenobites chose a narcissist for a role in their ritual that he was incapable of understanding.

Looking at their behavior after becoming Cenobites, I kind of see them as very twisted versions of monks, trying to obtain "enlightenment", a full understanding of the universe through the lens of Leviathan and their twisted nature.
Outside of Hellraiser, the word "cenobite" means "member of a monastic order" so even in the universe they are meant to be monks.

Some guy actually left a bigass note in an edit, complaining that niggers there keep yapping about "consent", where cenobites AT BEST consider a lot of things as such, at worst, do not care unless you are a tard who did not mean it.
I assumed they wanted Channard more, so instead of taking Tiffany and closing the gate, they left it open for him or possibly knew that more people will enter their domain willingly. They seem to honor their agreements but are more than happy to include some fine print and to interpret it unfavorably for the other side (like in Hellraiser, where they manipulated Kirsty to unknowingly defend Frank, thus breaking their agreement and making herself a fair target).

I wondered why the puzzle box wasnt called Lament Configuration in the game and I found out that name is only used in the shitty sequels.
In the novel it was called "LeMarchand's box".

There's multiple boxes.
True, Kyle finds at least three in Channard's office.

The boxes come in three types, Paramecia, Zoan & Logia. the same shape & purpose and maybe the Genesis configuration is for Cenobites that want to go super Ceno.

It's quite late of Clive Barker to add unique features to every puzzle box.

I beat it and had a good time riffing it with a friend. As others have said, it's very Resident Evil, but in a good way. Pacing is pretty good too, about the time you get tired of any one gimmick, they're smart enough to switch it up or drop it.

I played the demo and it sold it for me. It's been a long time since I not only was scared by a horror game, but also was able to have actual fun at times. I don't really know anything about hellraiser lore other than the main cenobites or whatever, and I still find it to be a captivating experience.

I am half-way there (or so I think) and so far, it's quite comfy. Atmosphere is 11/10, it gets 2sp00ky at times, which is great. Truly a love letter to the first 2 movies, you can tell the devs put a lot of heart into it.

The cenobites are a cautionary tale from an old gay pervert, the end result of hedonism at all costs. They gooned until it got old and stale, then they got into freaky shit until that got old and stale, then the only thing left that could get a rise out of them was taking a paper shredder to the junk while rolling around in barbed wire and broken glass. Pinhead spells it out pretty clearly in a very straightforward answer in the first movie: Explorers in the further regions of experience. By their own standards they're rescuing people from existences of terminal boredom, which is why they don't touch the autistic kid in the second movie; they're seeking out the jaded and decadent to "help", not any random dumb kid. Of course, this all goes out the window when later movies make them generic slasher villains, which is just boring in comparison to the original depictions. I liked the fact that they would argue and genuinely believe they're doing you a favor while trying to stuff your dick into a pencil sharpener.

The first two movies are worth a watch. I'll go to bat for the third movie somewhat, I don't think it's a terrible movie, but the tone is very different, Pinhead's much more of a slasher movie villain and the new Cenobites in that one are bland and forgettable, except for Pistonhead. If you check out the fourth movie, stop after the first segment, it's the only good one. The rest of the movies have fuck all to do with Hellraiser, they just have Pinhead in them, not worth watching.
