Can't wait for a sephiroth was never bad it was jenovas cells or some shit and he lives

"Umm actuallllllayy, Sephiroth was trans and therefore was as much of a victim as anyone else and can't be blamed for what he did you chud. This game isn't about fantasy, science and friendship. It was actually about mental health,"

Can't wait for a sephiroth was never bad it was jenovas cells or some shit and he lives
that's literally what all the side games have been spelling out for like 18 years or however long its been, especially the mobile one where you play as young sephi and Clould's Dad.
He was a legitmately good guy who got increasingly upset with all the evil corpo people fucking with him, and then he went mad with power+Jenova cells when he misinterpreted his origin.

It's a double-edged sword. On one hand, it's been interesting seeing the supplementary material that has come out since the original game, but a lot of it waters down what is there or fucks with the lore. I initially thought Advent Children was cool, but looking back I feel like it did more harm than good. Crisis Core was a genuinely good game that actually gave Zack some character, and we got to toy with the idea of what happens to the failed Jenova experiments. The downside was getting a poetry-reading Gackt OC (cool sword though). Dirge of Cerberus was an odd experiment, but I liked Vincent getting some love. In a slightly different timeline, Vincent would have been Sephiroth's (step)dad. It's an absolute crime that only the Japanese release of Dirge of Cerberus had the online mode where you made your own Turk and completed missions with others.

I never knew this was even a thing, and now I feel robbed.

The Turks were unironically some of my favorite characters and I would have eaten that shit up when I was younger.

There's been some interesting discussion of FF7's remakes censorship.

I don't think anybody made much a stink at the time because they did a good job doing it artfully with time travel as an excuse. (Tsung is this close to backhanding Aerith , cloud makes every indication he would have beaten her if she tried resisting)

The thing is... The localization director responsible for these changes left in May. So I've been hearing more and more talk that Square is actually going to cut loose for part 3. You may scoff but I genuinely think they want to loosen things up.

I could tell from playing remake back to back with rebirth they were loosing up the censorship more and more, what with actual blood, cursing and beach bodies they were throwing around. Not quite there yet, they restrained Cid but if he starts cursing like a sailer in part 3 we'll know why.

I don't remember that being a thing. I think he was confusing Before Crisis with the online mode for dirge. There might have been dress up opinions but your essentially playing a custom deep ground soldier

Story wise it had entirely separate prequel plot with a lot of cool shit that didn't show up In the base game ( deep ground had solider handlers with mad drip). Gameplay wasn't anything to write home about, but there was a shit ton of custom assets.

Hard to believe it barely lasted a year. There's a lot more details here. https://thelifestream.net/dirge-of-cerberus/multiplayer-archives/service-timeline-version-history/

You did get to fight a simulation turk Vincent though.

As someone who wanted the FF9 remake, for good or ill, you should be happy you got anything at all, FF7 fans.. Square "recognized" FF9 only once recently, with thr blighted Dawntrail 14 expac poorly adapting elements of it... 7 got a great raid series, 3 got Shadowbringers, 4 got Endwalker, and 9 got the retarded one, and also the remake got shelved indefinitely

That would be a sign of the times— technically this was always true… in the sense that his nature is to be evil once he accurately sees what he is. It wasn’t a wishy-washy “no one is truly evil” thing.

We're gonna get ff9 remake at least, sooner then later. They've spent too much time developing it to not release something. If I had to guess they are probably repurposing the combat system to make it look like expedition 33.

Well this isn't quite right, Jenova isn't evil, she's a Cosmic space parasite, it's her nature to consume planets.
Sephiroth chooses to embrace this makes him evil because it's a conscious choice, he could NOT do this, Cloud also has tons of Jenova cells and chooses to not be evil, Sephiroth chooses to be evil because everyone in his life betrayed him or used him or created him callously in some experiment, so he has nothing in his life for him to be good for... He didn't have a big tittied girl next door being obsessed with him, this is why he becomes evil, Jenova was just the final excuse

Yeah, basically Lavos if a woman.

Betrayed by his own will. A sad tale indeed.

Funny you mention it.
Is Tifa the worst girlfriend ever? She hides, confuses and even is very retarded sometimes.
Rinoa is a literal angel if you compare to her.

and literally everyone he has ever met, Glenn included, who was basically his big brother/Father figure .

People often say Sephiroth is evil for no reason without even looking at the history of the guy's life, he has literally zero reason to be a good person other than initial inertia of wanting to help people as a young man, both Nature and Nurture of his existence bends him towards his omnicidal outlook.

People used Aerith too, maliciously, and she didn’t decide on vengeance. And “callous” doesn’t cover being renowned as a hero. Moreover his revenge just so happens to be consuming after a meteor impacf, like Jenova. I think it’s clear his nature is at play here (which you seem to agree with in your next post).

And Jenova not really being evil is true, in a sense, but not in the exculpatory sense we’re talking about.

Do people not think Crisis Core was full of retcons? Or things equivalent to retcons if you want to be stubborn. That’s the only time we get anything like a pitiable Sephiroth.

its more he has no reason to fight his Jenova affiliated nature since he has no ties to humanity.
Aerith meets and befriends tons of poor people in the slums, and isn't a descendent of a space tentacle planet raper, she's a descendent of super-saiyan elves.

Ergo, it’s his nature. A nature he has to fight while someone with a different nature didn’t (and these natures are thematically pitted against one another). So blaming it on Jenova is technically correct but it wasn’t meant to make him sympathetic originally. The addition of sympathy is the wholesome chungus revision.

I prefer there to be an element of pity, otherwise he's just a very bland villain who wants to consume the planet because Mommy does that.

now he wants to do it also because he really fucking hates basically everyone and everything for his lot in life+ Mommy.

its hard to pull of a purely evil villain, my Profile name Zenos is one, and people often compare him to Sephiroth, which is outlandish, Zenos would beat his ass, and has zero Mommy issues or problems with humanity or any angst whatsoever.

This. He has no sense of self and it's why his continued existence depends on fixing himself to Cloud, the one man who got the jump on him. Seph has the willpower to change fate and persist but no anchor (and discards his humanity in Lifestream Black), both being very integral to what the Re trilogy is doing. It's also the macro for degradation in general as Soldiers only turn into robes when they give up. The new novel goes into a bit of this aspect of degradation and how to possibly treat it in Aerith's part of the book which reinforces all this.

Ars Technica: Why Final Fantasy is now targeting PC as its “lead platform” (archive)
In a recent interview with Automaton [archive], Hamaguchi clarified that the team takes the relatively common practice of creating visual assets for its multiplatform games by targeting “high-end environments first,” then performing a “reduction” for less powerful platforms. These days, that means “our 3D assets are created at the highest quality level based on PC as the foundation,” he said. Players have already noticed this graphical difference in the PC version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Hamaguchi said, and “our philosophy will not change for the third installment.”
