I disagree.
I can tell you now we're just going go in circles, but I disagree with your disagree. It doesn't matter that much whether Yuna put on a brave face, being sad about things all the time wasn't going to keep her from dying at the end, so that's not the actual issue. In a vacuum, her talk could just sound like saying you should try to keep yourself from being uselessly mopey, and Tidus takes it that way because he didn't realize it was coming from a place of her and everyone else around her knowing she was going to die at the end fo their journey. When he finds out the truth, what's not important is how he feels about the concept of forcing yourself to smile, it's that he realized he was focused on his own problems and never realized Yuna was in an even more dire situation that he is, and despite that she was always thinking of others first. He fully decides to think of Yuna over himself from then on, and realizes how much he needs an interest in everything around him to do that.
Meanwhile, the scene also demonstrated why Yuna likes Tidus. Because he didn't realize the darker reasons behind why Yuna says she feels the need to keep a brave face, he goes along with it casually and awkwardness of everything causes the two of them start laughing and dicking around for a little bit. The combination of his ignorance about what's going on and his general enthusiastic attitude meant he was easily able to cheer Yuna up and make her smile for real. In a way, the scene shows how Tidus has an unwaveringly positive attitude, because he's easily over his slump by the time the scene is over, while Yuna was the one getting cheered by the end despite Tidus not even knowing she needed that.

I don't see anything incohesive about it at all. Nothing contradicts, and the story ends up getting across what it wants to.

Lol, I’ve been looking at these walls of text and all I can think is “I couldn’t even get past the cannon in Machalania, why am I reading this?”

Every single time I see Square Enix remake Final Fantasy Tactics or Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together I am reminded that the last Ogre Battle game was released 25 years ago. Just make a new Ogre Battle game. Thanks in advance!
which real life conflict will they base the next Tactics Ogre on? since that one was Yugoslavia's civil war.

I'm not saying it's horrendous or doesn't make any sense, I'm saying it goes against the flow of the overall story and spends a good bit of narrative energy on something that even you say forms a minor background detail of later character interactions rather than a stepping stone towards the story's climax. Which, to my original point, is why it is less well-written than the character arcs and integration of IX.
Character arcs is one of the only aspects of writing X gets right more often than not. They're not bad arcs per se, they're just not as skillful as IX's.
I can tell you now we're just going go in circles

Facts brother, I was actually a little excited when I heard the leaks of a FFT game being set in development, I was actually kinda hoping for a sequel or prequel of that game.

They don't even have to conceptualize too hard about the next entry, the Fifty Year War is right there:

>You play as Balbanes, father of Ramza, leading the Order of the Northern Skies
>Sometimes you cross paths with Orlandu and Wiegraf as allies
>You also fight one of the Lucavi due to that one off-comment made by Altima being defeated by a Beoulve ancestor thousands of years ago.

And there we go, story for the new FFT game that would sell a trizillion copies and Square Enix should hire me for bringing this up, thank you very much.

I actually would wish a FFT sequel would have a different time period and a different protagonist than a Beoulve, but I for sure would enjoy immensely if they made a game about the Fifty Year War either way, it's such a cool lore piece that needs to be more explored.

Id buy the next final fantasy if they'd only announce it. Things have been dry
Have you tried any of the pixel remasters? I'm playing through FF5 Pixel Remaster and it's really fun. If you'd like to try out the PSP version of FF4 it has the bonus dungeon from FF4 Advance.

Sorry, I'm a 3D guy. I was thinking about giving 9 a try but Ive been waiting on the remake news.

Whenever the hell they decide to release it.

I think you should give 9 an honest shot, if you haven't yet. It's Hironobu Sakaguchi's love letter to the series. It has some great characters and arcs for them. It also has some of the most beautiful pre rendered back grounds in the series.

This will make or break it, how is the level up system?

flat levels, however, the ability system is unique, you learn abilities from weapons and armor and trinkets and can use them immediately on equip, and forever even not equipped once you earn enough "AP" while just having it equipped,

then you have so much AP you can use to turn on passives that you've learned, useable abilities don't require this, this way even substandard gear can be very useful because it lets a character learn a passive, gear also has the usual stats and resistances and shit.

it also has the smithy system where items can be fused together to make more powerful items and weapons, alot of slightly older weapons/armor can be upgraded for later.

So the FFT Remaster just released an update, but I already beat and platinumed it last week. Apparently it's just some minor graphic and sound fixes, but could they really not finish everything on release? I hope these dickheads don't plan on doing this every month or releasing DLCs thinking I'm going to spend more money or keep booting up the game every day when it's already done.

edit: so I guess it's a 1.3 update meaning there's been at least 1 or 2 others I didn't pay attention to. 3 updates in a month on a remastered game? I guess some of the other changes I didn't see at first also tweak some of the balance and AI of the enemies but I'm sure at some point they'll start adding more difficulty modes and constantly tweaking shit based on fan's bitching. Is it so hard for game developers to just release a finished product (on release preferably) and then move on to something else?

I'll say my 2 cents regarding FF story:

FF7 and FFX may not have the best stories of Final Fantasy games have, but they have the most relatable characters compared to the other games, and that is why 7 and 10 are more beloved compared to other FF

to distill the characters to their basic core, every FF7 character feels more human and down to earth compared to other games
Cloud: some failure that is basically ashamed that he couldn't achieve the "dream", so he lies about it (which is not his fault, because Jenova and mako injections, but still, that lying behavior to look good is still relatable) which is very relatable to alot of people
Vincent: he's a cuck
Cid: a guy sacrificed his dream and now stuck in a boondog town
Barrett: a angry guy lashing out his frustration because a mega company destroyed everything he has and he can do nothing about it
Tifa: a girl scared of confronting the lie her friend keep spouting that makes that friend look good
Aerith: a girl seeing and her boyfriend through another person by proxy
Yuffie: a girl scared of progress, seeing her town change and want it back to the way it was

Tidus and Yuna are 2 wounded dogs with daddy issues licking each other's wounds and falling in love with each other in the process

what does other FF games' character offer? they're too outlandish and headstrong or too fantastical to be relatable

is there a person alive right now seeking an item that can revive his dead girlfriend like Locke has? is there a girl now fighting a super evil country to restore the kingdom where she was a princess like Ashe? the only remotely relatable thing in FF13 is Lighting hates Snow having her sister as his boyfriend because he is a fucking bum, and he really does look like a bum

I give FF9 big props for redeeming the thief class that got so pwned by bugs in FF1

Tidus and Yuna are 2 wounded dogs with daddy issues licking each other's wounds and falling in love with each other in the process

I find Auron really relatable. He's always been along for the ride, and in his full adulthood now bears the scars. He tries to do well by those around him but is highly competent, so he finds their foibles irritating. But he's known men far better than he, and remains permanently humbled by the role he gets to play.

Laguna gets leg cramps when trying to approach Julia, so there's that lol. I'd argue that you can find some common ground in the older characters even if loosely. One that comes to mind is Tellah wanting to avenge his daughter. Now I don't think there's a ton of fathers out there learning Meteor at an old age to kill warlocks, but I'm sure a father could understand Tellah's state of mind and in turn relate to some degree.

yeah, but the MC of FF8 is a super cool stoic (not iDubbz stoic) super agent guy that has a teacher that has the hots for him and some beautiful girl approaches him to flirt with him, which is pretty much the opposite of an average jrpg player at that time, which was basically a dweeb otaku

Well not every character is going to be relatable of course, but at least we have Laguna in that game. If your insinuating that Squall sucks then we are in agreement.
