People are being too pissy about the FFT remaster not including fanfiction classes that weren't in the original game. They weren't in the PS1 original, they weren't on the downloadable port for PS3; they only existed on the far-less-accessible port for PSP, which then became slightly more accessible by eventually getting clunkily ported to mobile phones. I understand being a little bummed about taking non-original content for granted and then not seeing it included, but the visceral reaction I am seeing on Twitter and GameFAQs seems extreme. I think people have learned some misleading "Non-Buynary" lessons from Gamergate 2 (and tangental battlefields such as the review bombing of Helldivers 2), and now more people feel empowered to boycott if they feel the product is only 95% great.

And boycotting is well within their rights to do, but it just feels like a completely silly hill to die on. The outrage feels manufactured, but that's probably because it's not my nostalgia being fucked with.
Multiplayer was fun and I was looking forward to it. Fuck this version. I bet it's woke too, if not I might get it on a deep sale just to have a slightly different experience for my next playthrough, it's been a while. But people are right to criticize this, there's no excuse not to optionally include it.

Looking at it in a vacuum maybe but people are pretty pissed off with a lot of full price remakes/remasters coming out lately and not including extra content only to try and sell it back to you later on. There has been a pattern of "Oh we just remade the base version of the game, the extra stuff that was added later? You'll have to pay more for that" and people are understandably pretty angry about it.
and it's especially bad when much smaller games like Front Mission remake include whole extra full game scenarios, difficulty modes, QOL updates etc a bigger game not delivering feels even less forgivable

@MysticLord You are missing the most vital part of Final Fantasy XII. You can set the game to play itself and not have to worry about anything! Hooray!!

Final Fantasy X is shit and if you like Final Fantasy X you have shit taste and are personally responsible for destroying the Final Fantasy series. You are also probably a pedophile. Stay away from Dragon Quest you niggers.

These Final Fantasy X fans can't stop molesting children. You look at the game they love with its trash-tier story, terrible mechanics and awful voice acting and it makes you wonder how they continue to get away with it. Then you look over at Square who are raping the corpse of Final Fantasy year after year by catering to these low-rent fans. Sphere Grid? You want to talk about motherfucking SPHERE GRID? That shit is somehow worse than the Junction system from Final Fantasy VIII. The goddamn Queer Grid amounts to useless busywork and a dumbfuck design based around a board game that nobody wants to play. The last good system was Final Fantasy IX's version of Final Fantasy VI's job system. The Queer Grid ends up being boring just like the linear-as-fuck game it is set in. And then over here you have this vapid cast of characters that mope around for a couple dozen hours getting struck by lightning and being unable to kill Seymour. Blitzball!!?!? Music video!?!??!?!?!? So yeah, it's a bad game. Not a fan. Ruined the series forever.

And not a single one of you can defend this game.

So yeah, it's an alright game but they really missed the mark. By this point in time it seemed more and more like Square really wanted to be making something else but could not. And it shows in the games we've gotten since FFX. They can't tell a complex story to save their lives and in the long term their simpler stories with less explanation end up having more depth because it leaves room for the player's imagination to fill in the gaps. In a weird way, the newer Final Fantasy games with all of their huge setpieces and incredible graphics and dense lore end up having much less imagination than a polygonal character model from Final Fantasy VII, a vore worm mini-dungeon in Final Fantasy VI or a pixelated tentacle waifu in Final Fantasy III. A "less is more" approach would probably benefit Square's creations significantly.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is a poster child for this premise. The game ended up being padded to hell with needless explanation and tons of details that end up making the world less cohesive and believable. Simple example: the artificial lighting in the slums. Did they forget what they had established in the first game? And was the team that worked on these lights not in communication with the team that developed the (really bright, bloomful) ambient lighting that was shining in from outside of Midgar? Barret's "floating pizza" is hurled up onto the roof of the garage. You could have played the original game for a half hour and nailed down what the original designers were going for. Instead they made this completely ridiculous addition to the game that ends up wrecking the overall look and feel of the area known as The Slums. It's detail for the sake of providing set pieces for the players to traverse on their way to Point B and it has no soul and no way of reconciling with the established world that we know.

That's Square.
@Marchesa of the Vast thanks for bringing these up. READ THEM AND SUFFER!!

Nothing I said was wrong and I triple-down on every single part. Fuck you niggers. It feels good to be right.

Cool.

Actually I don’t think I originally posted the review. I only reposted it because it still has the best single criticism of Remake. That all the Whisper business feels unbelievably inorganic because the characters barely acknowledge it in the next scene (usually a scene from the original where they talk about their encounters with Turks or Shinra’s latest misdeed).

Why did Sorceress Edea where that ridiculous fucking headpiece? Edea's long black hair is so much prettier and likely more appealing to the general public in universe, whereas the headpiece and peacock backpiece just really drive home the whole "evil illuminati occultist" vibes.

I mean, if any of us were in that parade, we would likely be sweating bullets thinking the Illuminati or some in-universe equivalent has just sent the female antichrist to make us bow, I certainly wouldn't be hard.
I mean, Galbadia's own military was conspiring to have her assassinated because they knew she was bad news and was likely mind controlling the president. And she straight up killed the president during her first public appearance and the crowd didn't react. I don't think they really say anything about it in-game, but apparently the Ultimania says Edea had the crowd around her in disc 1 under a charm spell so they would perform the parade and celebrate instead of reacting normally. So basically, Edea/Ultimecia didn't care about looking presentable because people already knew not to trust witches and she just had mind control powers to get around that anyway.

That makes sense, still got nothing on the CHAD Kuja, as sexy as Ultimecia may be.

On the subject, it kind of annoys me that the localization team for FF8 translated 魔女 as "sorceress" instead of the more obvious "witch". The latter just fits better with how they're treated in the story and in-universe. Plus the whole game started out as a Wizard of Oz reference anyway, and what does that have? Witches.

Meanwhile FF9 actually had a tin man, a lion, a scarecrow and a girl.
