Looks like Kingdom Hearts combat...and by that I mean it looks like a fun action game with cool visuals

The Street Fighter Kaiju battles seem to have alot of potential

And then before that, Cloud lifted Sephiroth by the blade, (with it stabbed right through him) and shoved him off a building
What's interesting is that there's 4 depictions of that scene. Zack and cloud see him being thrown into the reactor. But the Turks see him purposely jump after cloud falls short of throwing him in.

Reunion keeps crisis cores version with 2 changes. First jenovas head is covered in a metal helmet, (which might be censorship, I'm not sure the jap policy on decapitation) and adding a whisper effect to the stab wounds on cloud and sephiroth, identical to when sephiroth stabs the president and Barrett in the remake.

Could be nothing but I'm fairly certain they will add another layer to what actually happened there.
Speaking of which, I've heard that in early drafts of VII's story Cloud was supposed to be an actual clone of Sephiroth, modified in certain ways. I don't know exactly how true that is, but it would certainly fit in with the 'twist' about Zack, as well as the other numbered clones that are being drawn to the reunion in the Arctic.
The games in the compilation retconed a bunch of stuff anyway, so who knows what the hell was supposed to be going on before the remake.
A lot of stuff on the clones was altered. I think the fact that they are even considered "clones" is more of an american translation issue. If I'm not mistaken red was supposed to have more of a connection to them.

I believe that in an even earlier draft of the game's script, Sephiroth and Aerith were supposed to be siblings.

The amount of abilities you’ll get when you defeat each eikon makes me coom. Apparently Leviathan is supposed to be in this game too but hasn’t been shown in trailers yet.

Idk what the controversy about FF16 is supposed to be but I see everyone bitching about it (except here).

I don’t mean the lack of black people but people dislike the combat?
So, to go way, way back to some of the FFVII story talk ages ago, I just finished Crisis Core Reunion.
So, that scene in Remake where Hojo says Cloud is something more than just SOLDIER? Yep, turns out he directly infused the guy with some of Jenova's cells in Nibelheim for about four years straight. Of course, its been a while and he wouldn't exactly remember what was originally a failed experiment. I didn't know any of that that since I don't think I got far enough in original FFVII and Remake cuts off before any character development or plot dumps happen.
Technically he’s saying Cloud is something less than a Soldier. You’ll just have to play the game instead of getting the story through inferior second-hand offerings though.

A lot of retards like to complain about Final Fantasy not being Dragon Quest. Every single time a new entry is shown off niggas are mad it's different than previous entries. How about Square makes a game with ATB instead of NFT, am I right, Reddit? *sip* FFVI now that was a good game.

I do think it’s kind of insane that we never get an ATB or Turn-Based game in Final Fantasy any longer but FF16 still looks good… Which is all that matters.

If they're gonna go with real-time combat, I wish they'd have it feel more like pre-RPG Yakuza. The Kingdom Hearts style doesn't feel like anything has any solid impact.

Turn-based combat will probably stick around for budget titles but it's just a big risk these days for a mainline entry.

I was sold on Final Fantasy XVI when I saw the team behind it. Basically everyone in charge worked with and/or were inspired by Yasumi Matsuno. That's that good shit, nigga.

Kingdom Hearts-like combat *can* be great when done right, i think one of KH2's sins is that it gives you a vast arsenal of skills and fighting styles, but never really puts up any roadblock that mashing X wont break

They sorta fixed that with the optional boss battles in the Final Mix, where button mashing will *always* get you wiped out no matter your stats

Liking how FF16 is shaping up though, the plan was to get it sometime down the line but Yoshi's attitude towards the game made it a first day purchase for me

I dont even have a PS5 right now ffs

I like turn based combat, but if a company no longer feels like making them, I can always go somewhere else for turn based combat. While it kind of sucks, Square clearly wants to try no forms of gameplay and I'm okay trying.

Give me a fun game first and foremost.

Yeah. The lack of turn-based combat has not been the main problem with Square’s games lately. The weird, overstuffed and poorly-focused stories are.

It’s people bitching because it’s not turn-based. And I don’t have a problem with turn-based gameplay, but the series has always experimented with its gameplay and it hasn’t been turn-based since X. Although I still prefer real time gameplay so I’m glad they’re going with that.

X was kinda turn-based. Characters had a turn priority based in their stats.

Originally it was Ifalna’s genes that were used to make Soldiers too. So yes.
Was Jenova in the early drafts? It sounds like Ifalna's Ancient genes were what was being used by Shinra. I guess that would tie in better with the climax where they aren't sure if the planet will consider humans evil or not.

He initially called Cloud something less than a SOLDIER before having a moment of remembrance about what he did to the guy, which was pump him full of Jenova cells in an attempt to create Sephiroth 2.0. They didn't take in Zack because of the initial mako infusion process that creates a SOLDIER, and Cloud was damn near poisoned to death after the successful uptake.

I mean, its not like Cloud sharing those Jenova cells with Sephiroth is a major plot point or anything.

That and SE isn't consistent with action combat. Sometimes its good, other times its dogshit. Action combat RPGs are fine when it is actually designed properly and not just an excuse to do flashy bullshit that has way too much end lag, having bosses who just randomly flail attacks around, or just cheating boss design by giving you dodge systems that are too brainless to execute like in KH: Birth By Sleep or the potion spam you can do in FF15 to just tank through damage.

Oh you’re lecturing me on the plot? Bro I’ve actually played the game and you have not. Hojo thinks Cloud is a failed experiment and dismisses him coldly when such is revealed to him. This is why you should use the primary source because details, like the tone, are lost otherwise.
