It gets the audience attention. I mean, what's the alternative? Go slow and steady or throw the main characters (and the audience) into the meat grinder right off the bat?You know, I just noticed and I cant speak for FFs post 9 but a lot of them start with acts of terrorism or war crimes.
In FF2, we see fleeing innocents getting struck down by combatants
In FF4, we see innocents getting murdered by the orders of the established monarch. Gets even worse when we see borderline genocide attempt of Summoners with a Ring Bomb
In FF 6, we see people defending their hometown getting killed by invading imperials with access to far more advanced tech (dont get me started Kefka poisoning an entire kingdom to death)
In FF 7, we start with Avalanche murdering a bunch of people just doing their jobs, causing millions in property damage and no doubt leading to a lot of jobs lost
And in most of them, the main character is part of it or actively leading the charge
Man, the shit they got away with and our young little minds just ignored because we didnt truly understood those concepts (and because most of these people appear as monster like sprites, soo...)
FF12 starts with the king getting murdered and FF15 starts with… the king getting murdered. You know, I just noticed and I cant speak for FFs post 9 but a lot of them start with acts of terrorism or war crimes.

FF13 started with death camps and shoving magic people off the moon planet because they touched the magic robot god.FF12 starts with the king getting murdered and FF15 starts with… the king getting murdered.
I really can’t speak on FF13 because I honestly don’t remember what happened most of that game.
Woah it’s just like da joosFF13 started with death camps and shoving magic people off the moon planet because they touched the magic robot god.
NopeSpeaking of the beginning of FF13, was I the only one confused by it?
Weird thing is that those bonds end up getting dropped after they got branded as soon-to-be magic zombies. Hope and Vanille will never interact again outside that one scene near the end of the game. And neither do Lightning and Sazh, even in the sequels. Not just what's going on plot wise, it wasn't immediately clear if the nigger and Lightning knew each other already or he just hovered around her. And the same for the pussy faggot kid and the girl who leads him around. It just felt so unnatural and ambiguous how they all connected, kinda weird.
Sorry for forgetting their gay forgettable names btw.
Wait, in Final Fantasy 13-3 isn't he and his son being sick make up a portion of the story? They definitely interact, in the Wildlands, no?And neither do Lightning and Sazh, even in the sequels.
Nope, and its one of the (many things) Spoony harps on in his famous review of the game, alongside the game just throwing a jargon encyclopedia at you so you can understand what all these made up words mean because it can't actually be arsed to explain its own plot and terminology. The game's storytelling is honestly bafflingly bad in all the ways it just violates basic writing and throws out character motivations. Vanille is the one the most annoying characters in the game but goes through the most fully formed character arc while everybody else just kind of exists and falls out of the plot as their individual storylines intermingle into the basic save the world storyline. Not made better by the gaping plothole that underpins the entire story.Speaking of the beginning of FF13, was I the only one confused by it?
Yeah you're right, but it was lame way to conclude Sazh's character.Wait, in Final Fantasy 13-3 isn't he and his son being sick make up a portion of the story? They definitely interact, in the Wildlands, no?
There are no problems with XII. It's a masterpiece. Just pretend Vaan doesn't exist. Everyone in the story does so it shouldn't be too hard.XIII has been a punching bag for RPG fans. The long ass hallway. It did make some people forgive the problems of XII. Kinda.
I always wondered why they needed EMT's and Emergency Workers to help the injured after you blew up the first Mako reactor when they live in a world with potions and healing magic. You know, I just noticed and I cant speak for FFs post 9 but a lot of them start with acts of terrorism or war crimes.
