I noticed this thread and I'm not gonna wade through 17 pages of 'tism... could someone please explain to me...

1) Why is there a following for these things which are sold at my local gas station, and
2) How is this any different than the whole POGs craze from about 20-ish years ago (damn, I feel old).

Me too, I walked into my sister's house yesterday to see both my niece and nephew spinning these things. Made me lawl.

i decided to treat myself to a new bong and some other cool paraphernalia. as i was browsing the bubblers, saw a row of fidget spinners.... wtf. the smoke shop is my safe haven and these autistic baby rattles are getting a little to close for comfort.

C'mon, if anybody would be entertained by these it'd be stoners high off their asses.
 
After I remembered seeing someone using one during the dialogue sections of a HL2 speed run I found a site that sells speed cubes (basically Rubik's cubes but fancier so they can be used competitively) and the fidget spinners/cubes have invaded that site too. I can kind of get the cubes being on there since it's a site that sells primarily cube shaped products and parts of the ~community~ that I found do come off as slighly :autism:, but I don't think that competitive fidget spinning/cubing could ever really be a thing so it still confuses me in a way.

The thought that a day which could have been spent under the sky, doing work, learning a trade, finding a wife, or even catching up on sleep was spent instead getting high immediately after waking up and spinning one of these for 10 hours in a daze on a couch is one of the more depressing ones I've had this year.
