Fallout 4 is getting an update in a few days and a new Skyrim update is dropping soon. If you're a buyfag and mod Skyrim make sure you've set your game to never update or else all your mods will be fucked. If you're a pirateCHAD, keep chillin' and laugh at all the Steamoids REEEEING about their modlists being fucked.

How's that going to affect things? Will we see them bring back the autistic straight white male programmer to actually clean up the jeet and AI slopcode, forcing them to actually optimize shit, shrink filesizes, code sanely instead of just picking shit off the Unreal / Unity asset store? Or will we see the inertia cause this shit to run headfirst into the ground for a few years first?
probably not, the thing about gaming is that it allows for indies to thrive and the current situation at the time of writing is the whole indie darlin FOTM phenomenon, AAA industries are too big to try for that shit so they always miss the mark and end up looking retarded, see asscreed's attack on titan DLC as example, the india menace infecting the studios won't help either since jeets are like muslims, once they are in power it's their extremely retarded way or the highway and in the tech sector no jeet in senior position would ever consider a competent person to challenge his authority and make him lose izzat by showing he is a incompetent subhuman.

while indies have the troon problem we can always count on the balkan devs though even if they get formulaic a bit so that's a bit of a saving grace... for TES shit's beyond cooked because AAA industry are on the cutting the fat and replacing it with contractors shit that, well, you saw the protests right? a lot of people will get the axe, a lot of people will go back to flipping burgers and i'm all up for it even if it means they will be replaced by a fucktillion jeets, SEAmonkeys and chink bugs that will deliver unoptimized garbage and i can't even count on bethesda's creation engine as a crutch, i am betting a couple of internetz that asha will try to force them to ditch the engine only to realize that they can't do creation club shit to get money from console peasants plus having to pay engine royalties which microslop is on the same tier as EA (they are averse to it) and pathetically try to go back to it without anyone competent in the studio anymore, especially since they aren't trying to make their devs teach the new blood on how to handle the engine either because such talent is expensive and jeets are too stupid to understand, it's going to be fucking beautiful even if TES/FO are going to suffer in all possible aspects.
Zealots will sooner commit suicide than admit they are wrong. They're going to choose to kamikaze the plane into the single mountain among the million square miles of runway over taking the queues from successful games that don't have bespoke blades of grass, writing that doesn't intentionally insult the audience, or be a glorified daycare for niggers and queers.
don't promise me a good time, nigga.
i genuinely want to see these people suffering alongside their beancounting CEO's, i hope they learn that message in blood that making games is the same as driving, it's not for everyone and if you aren't meant for it you will crash and fucking die, their gay nepotism will only work to a certain degree, too many failures and they will become radioactive as it has happened with gaylo and bungie studios recently.

In the past oh, 20 years or so, ever since they turned the gaming industry into one of many adult daycares for women who saw a nice "easy" office job and said "I deserve that because I have a cunt and those office chairs look comfy", the answer to "should we optimize our game" has just been "nah there'll be a new, better PC out by the time we could bother."
Unreal and Quake ran like ass on current machines of the time, and that was in the era of supposed "optimization." Quake ran so badly on my P100, which I'd gotten the year before, that I uninstalled it and never played it through until I got a PIII in 1999. It was extremely common to not play PC games until years after they came out in the "optimization" era. "Eh, it runs like ass, but gamers will have better PCs next year" has always been the M.O. of PC game developers. 20 years ago PC Master Race supremacists with their fancy Geforce 2s and console kiddies with their PS2 were arguing about this exact thing. I could probably find forum posts from 2002 about how PS2 games are better because console devs have to optimize, while PC games are shit because this year's games will run like ass until next year's GPUs come out, so the PC gamer can't have a good experience unless he buys a new $400 GPU every year.

Today, PC gamers complain that new games only run at 75 fps with 55 fps lows on 8-year-old GPUs and seem to think Doom 3 came out of the gate running at 60 fps on current midrange machines. When did this era of hyper-optimization happen? I've been playing games on PCs since the 1980s, and it wasn't until the 2010s that you could buy a new game and be reasonably certain it would run on the machine you bought last year.

As far as I recall, Oblivion dungeons are just a bunch of tunnels with chests and beds/coffins here and there, depending on the occupant.
Honestly, Skyrim did dungeons better. When you explore them you can see that the place is inhabited - there are kitchens, living quarters, etc.

But Morrowind is still better though. They are much smaller and tight.
Morrowind's dungeons are functional but I don't find many of them particularly interesting or engaging outside of maybe a dozen or so highlights. I suspect they are the way they are because of the game's ethos when it comes to quests incorporating dungeons: the mini adventure of actually finding the correct dungeon is part of the quest/overall experience. It's a shame the game didn't make better use of scout npcs. That image of Arkngthand's map linked earlier is kind of deceptive as 95% of Morrowind's dungeons aren't anywhere near as complex. The way I've taken to playing Morrowind over the last few years is to purposely stay out of dungeons unless its for a quest or a specific item I want to rush. Which is to say I don't mind the dungeons, just that playing the game as a dungeon crawler a la Oblivion makes the experience worse imo.

Oblivion on the other hand, I'm fine with treating it as a dungeon crawler. That's how you get loot, that's how you level a lot of your skills, I don't mind the dungeon tilesets nearly as much as many ITT. Ayleid ruins are one of my favorite dungeon types across the entire series. The biggest issue I have with them is the backtracking out of the larger ones but that's tempered with how fake and gay Skyrim's loopbacks are. These days I just coc on the entrance. I've played the game too much to be bothered to wade through 5 minutes of backtracking.

I liked them at first. There was a sense of mystery. Then, as I got deeper into the game, I realized there was nothing to discover, as they were all the same 3-5 layouts with doors in different spots and no interesting lore or artifacts to uncover.

It's most likely true. Epic Nate does have connections at Bethesda and we've known it was going to be set in Niggerfell for a few years now.
Wellllll...

I suppose I really did dig that Thieves Guild area and the comfy dolmen loop in Alk'ir... It had nice like, Aladdin vibes you know.

I just don't know if that can hold up an entire game.

@The Ugly One

I think you're comparing apples and oranges. PC gaming until 20 years ago was in a really shitty spot with hardware because nobody was trying to standardize anything, so in one year a pc config was shit, the next year's refresh interacted differently, and the year's after different from that. PC devs were doing the best they could. But now that everything does play well with each other, file sizes for games ballooned to hundreds of gigs for no discernible reason, other than incompetence.

Game Devs not compressing files and a good number of PC users being cheap and fucking retarded with their builds both can and are true at the same time.

Add to this the dissolution of the disk and the advent of digital downloads. Skyrim was 6GB because it had to fit on 6GB disks. Before the 2010s, devs HAD to use every trick in the book to optimise and cram a lot into very little (relatively, anyway) file sizes.

Edit: Then you pile modern globohomo devs onto this. Modern AAA video games aren't really games anymore; they're just skinner box products. Live service "content" to be milked until dry, then it's on to the next. Bring back games made by MEN with passion!

Those were all made long before 2020.
A elder scrolls game made during peak virtue signal era with modern Bethesda hires will be... interesting

No, it's that PC devs had screaming high-end rigs and developed games for themselves. John Carmack outright said as much. The fact that Unreal ran like shit even on a Pentium with a Voodoo card wasn't a "config complexity" issue. It was dead simple, actually. You had a single-core x86 CPU, and either you had a Voodoo or you didn't. There weren't 25 different graphics cards to choose from. They just figured, fuck you, either plop down a few hundos on SLI or wait a couple years.

The era where new games were optimized to run at high frame rates on recent midrange hardware is right now. The past fucking sucked; everyone who fondly remembers buying a brand new game in 2002 and it running at 75 fps on your 3-year-old rig is hallucinating. People bitch because a new game won't run at 90 fps on max settings on 5-year-old hardware, then go watch these YouTubers who were all born after 9/11 talking about how great optimization was 20 years ago. How do you think 2006 games ran on 2001 hardware?

It's because games are designed to look good at 4K now. AAA PS3 exclusives were designed to look good at 720p and took up >20 GB on a Blu-Ray disc. 720p to 4K is a 9x increase in visual resolution, so it's not really shocking at all that games with assets targeting 4K are 10x bigger than they were 20 years ago. It would be shocking if they were the same size.

you forget that dunner can live for like 300 years (without magic to extend their lives unnaturally)

so if we assume that mer also take longer to reach maturity than men in a proportional rate to their natural aging

let's also assume the races of man live lives up to 60 years long (ignoring infant mortality) so the math is trivial

so an 18yo dunmer may be equivalent to a 3.6 years old human

but this runs on some very shoddy assumptions and napkin math

I mean those areas I was talking about in ESO weren't even made by Bethesda.

I don't think any of us are kidding ourselves that the game will be good by this point, we are just 35-45 year old grandpas who want to play our fantasy racism skooma game one more time before we die and vibes are all we have left.

If I recall, Mer basically age at the same rate as Men until around 18-20, then slows down.

Does Tamriel even have an age of consent?
