Gaming analysis channels like CleanPrinceGaming can be terrible as they put low effort and try to soak up gaming controversies. They have little to no thought put in and do nothing to advance the media, and at worst are an excuse for the cramming of the author’s politics in the case of someone like Anita.
Ok, actually,...
I’m going to go against this thread a bit, but I want to say that gamers do have one advantage to the over other hobbyists. I think the more analytical channels surrounding gaming in 2020 are actually able to produce good content. Many of them are pretty good at representing gaming as an art form. While some or cringe or money grabbing, for the most part they seem fine, especially compared to movie and show analysts.
Movie and show analysts are really trash nowadays, and I am surprised gaming has sort of distance itself from them. Users like King K actually produce good content worthy of listening to for the hour. They go into game mechanics, story, and themes while doing a respectful analysis of how all combine. The videos feel smartly written, showing more than the surface level. Movies/TV, I feel, are less likely to find good content of. So many users either miss crucial things or inject their political beliefs into it. I think good examples are Big Joel, or more infamously, The Pop Culture Detective. Seriously, check out Big Joel’s The Lion King video for max stupidity. The dude builds his argument on this idea that the lions are human? Something about how having human characteristics makes them human, it was just flimsy justification. He then goes on like a 20 minute rant about how the Lion King promotes fascism or some hierarchy structure because he lacks any understanding of the Circle of Life speech. I find gamers to be better at making their medium seem more..intelligent, for lack of a better term. When I watch game analysis or retrospectives, the author seems to be focused on the content and not trying to create theories and estimates of writer‘s intent. They also don’t make as many blanket statements like all media is political to try to own the right. I hate when these types of videos say things like that, Big Joel said the all political statement while reviewing Scooby Doo, and all I could think was when has Scooby ever been political prior to the 2020 movie. Did I miss the episode where Fred’s trap obsession leads him to become a trans ally, or the one where Shaggy joins antifa for a Scooby Snack?
In conclusion, while some of gaming analysts and retrospects can be cringe, they are certainly at a higher standard than most media nowadays. These channels may not be for everyone, but I can appreciate those who spend time talking about the good and bad in very long-form detail and getting into more technical aspects. I love channels like Lambhoot, or Tech Rules for going into detail about games and how they operate, as well as things like the FE3H Value of Connection video which gave me more of an appreciation for 3H’s story.
To dust off an old chestnut:I have never heard of those games.
Look at those Steam pages. Yep, Valve is finished.
Also, curiously, Art Sqool had already been put through archive.md a year ago.![]()
This is bullshit brought on by "Gamer" and "Nerd" being turned into a "Lifestyle" brand by stupid blue check mark faggots who want it to be "Fashionable"The label itself. Much like being a comic book nerd, or any nerd, gamer now doesn't reach from D&D in the 90s to WoW in the 00s, but anyone who plays games. So basically, anyone. And who identifies by being something everyone is to some extend? The same kind of people who go "metal is my life".
Being a gamer is like being a movie-watcher. Or hell, a nerd with how popular Marvel is. What's there to take pride in?

"We're not trying to take your games away from you."
Those people are great, especially if they're really bad so you can do it again and again as they get angrier and angrier.
I think a better explanation is just that games are a whole lot harder to analyze and have so many factors to them when compared to movies or other mediums. To break it down to two basic terms, you have presentation/story, then gameplay. A movie is something one can judge solely on the story and presentation, whereas games have a gameplay element to them. One’s entire perspective can be built off one of the two factors making them more susceptible to the biased perspective. It's weird. I think Gamer Video Essay culture is better than other entertainment media (perhaps because gamers are more tech savvy and can't get real jobs to write about games like a good movie or lit critic) but Gamers as a whole are worse when it comes to analyzing and evaluating their properties. I suspect that's just the nature of fandoms that people much too devoted to particular franchises have warped and biased perspectives but I notice it more with gamers. With books and movies I can get more out of a layman fan of something.
and believe all women. They're constant need to appear mature apparently all you need to do in order be mature these days is to look at fictional violence and nudity
