I can't imagine what it would be like trying to run herd on Chris and know that you are going to have to keep doing that for the rest of your life. Chris would be an incredibly demanding person to live with. The mom on the Brady Bunch would have snapped looking at that for the rest of her life. I don't know if Bob ever totally gave up, but Barb seems to have. She's probably just coasting to the finish line at this point, and I don't think anyone in her position would do much differently. Not that I think she is a wonderful person, mind you... I just think she is in a no win situation. Cole probably did the smartest thing and just got the hell out of there and didn't look back. Barb couldn't do that. She was stuck.

You're not a mother. Mothers are supposed to adore stupid bullshit. Besides, it puts food in her mouth and shit in her hoard.

I need to look that up, although from my memory, I suspect Bob was suffering from depression. Barb may have been also.
I'd say it's a strong possibility that both Bob and Barb suffered from depression long before they met each other, and things never got any better.

I think we like to paint Barb as utterly evil and self centered, and yeah she's pretty unlikable, but I do think Barb tried to do what she could for Chris when he was younger. I can't imagine what it would be like to raise a severely autistic kid in the 80s. Something deffinetly snapped in her in the late 90s after she retired, but let's not act like she didn't love Chris and just mentally abused him his entire life. In fact, Chris genuinely looked happy as a child.

NOPE. The mommy in me is giving this one a big, fat fucking NOPE. When you have a child with a mental or physical challenge, you don't get to go play secretary at the shit factory in another town while your husband does all the work. You crawl through broken glass to get your child the resources they need. By the '80s, someone Barb's age knew their kid needed to be in PT/OT/ST if they were as globally delayed as Chris, or at least his pediatrician would have pushed this. The kid wasn't in ST until he was in school. Yeah, she was nice to him on the weekends when she had to see him. It's easy to be a smiley, happy mommy when you only put up with your exceptional son on weekends.

If you love your child, you do everything possible to assure when you're not around anymore that they'll be safe. She never did shit for Chris.

The picture of Chris fatass on the pony never fails to make me laugh. You have Barb there, trying to hold onto her overweight baby so he doesn't fall off and smack his face on the ground, then you have the kid who either worked for the company that provided said ponies for rides, looking utterly horrified, probably thinking that at any moment, the ponies spine would split in half and the company would be sued for negligence (you know Bob and Barb would sue for something like that, even due to their own negligence). Then we have Chris who was probably around 10 years of age in this picture (more like 13 though), dressed like a 5 year old, right arm up to his chest like a kid with a motor disability, enjoying the ever living fuck out of the pony, although probably wondering why it won't give him a ride. No wonder why Chris came to love the MLP franchise so much, fucker probably believes he can ride them in ponyland if he's not in his Nightstar form.

She loved him, when she had to love him. Bet you anything, the relief she felt when she was at work, away from her screeching autistic son, was probably fantastic. Sure Chris had a pediatrician, but you have to remember that the Chandler's had a very shitty relationship with the medical community reguardless Chris. I'm pretty sure his doctor told borb, "hey, your son is autistic. This means that when he goes to school, he will need to be placed in special education classes, and have to probably repeat a couple grades until he understands what his teachers are attempting to teach him. He will have severe difficulty in the future if you do not allow him the help he will need, THIS IS NOT A OPTION!" And, like fucking clockwork, borb told the doctor to fuck right off, and that there is nothing wrong with their miracle baby, he's 100% perfect.

Come years later, Chris ended up getting into trouble in elementary school, for probably being a asshole to another classmate and had to visit the principles office to find out why the fuck he was acting that way. Cue Chris believing the principle wanted to rape his supple ass, and thus, the Green County Conspiracy was born. Well, I bet you wish you would've allowed the doctors and psychiatrists to help your special snowflake now, huh Barb?

All he does is sit in his room and tard out autistically and occasionally cough up some money when she demands it. What's hard about that? When she does intervene it's to do shit like run over Snyder herself. Remember she was also facing felonies in that because as the supposed non-tard mom she committed crimes herself.

I'm not saying Barb didn't drop the ball, I'm saying I disagree that she didn't love him as a mother. She wasn't a perfect parent, but I've know GREAT parents that still have assholes for kids. Neurotypical kids at that. Chris is just a fuckup.

If I was forced to live with one or the other of them, I'd rather live with Barb than Chris. That I know for sure!

I'm sure Ed Gein's mom was a lovely person once you got to know her wear her skin too.

Ah but to my nature vs nurture point: if Ed Gein had better parents you'd let him babysit your kids?

The only reason I let Bob off the hook is a generational difference where those kinds of parents didn't value therapy and instead thought if you applied "tough love," you'd get somewhere. I think if Bob would have been a younger father to Chris, that may have even worked. Bob just ran out of steam by the time Chris graduated from PVCC. Having him mainstreamed for his education? That was Bob. Getting the associate's and certification? All Bob. He tried to give Chris valuable and interesting hobbies like stamp collecting and building things.

What has Barb contributed to Chris' life?

Barb is pretty cold, from the accounts we have from Cole. The one thing we can say about Barb is she stood by her man. She hitched her wagon to Bob's star and she was loyal. She must have fucked like a champ. If she felt anything for Chris, it was because it was BOB'S kid. If she was totally neglectful like she was with Cole, Bob would have booted her ass.

When she does intervene it's to do shit like run over Snyder herself. Remember she was also facing felonies in that because as the supposed non-tard mom she committed crimes herself.

Barb has anger issues. Mothers with anger issues usually abuse their children.

She wasn't a fit parent. Dropping the ball is letting your kid eat chocolate pudding for dinner because you're sick of power struggles and want a break. When you have a special needs child, the game changes. You don't get a day without therapeutic work. You don't get a day off the care plans issued in therapy so you can be "a normal family," because you're not a "normal family." You're a special needs family. Barb didn't care or think about Chris' future. You know how Barb lived with the shame of being away from her family and checking out? She didn't feel any. You can't love your child and be separated for a decade. That's not how love works.

In the 1950s, they thought autism was caused by lack of nurturing on the mother's part. Obviously, that isn't entirely true because with things like Rett's we've found associated genes, but you have to wonder how far off when you look at cases like Chris Chan's.

She stopped cooking for everyone because they didn't want her spaghetti one day, she has threatened to kill herself multiple times to get her own way, and she has a spending habit far above her means.

For Christ's sake she's spending her golden years making her son pay for her living now that her husband's gone. She's a real leech.

Maybe it is the not a mom thing, idk. The only thing I never gave bob or barb any shit over was not wanting to hear about sonichu, because who the fuck would? And honestly? I'm willing to bet at least one of them showed some pride/interest when he was younger. In high school, sure. Fuck, didn't bob even copyright it for Chris? Though that was later and due to the trolling.
Once it got to late 20's, early 30's? I don't care how fantastic a mom, they don't take interest in every single thing their kid does anymore.
Chris was entirely failed by both his parents in my opinion, but their failure was far from their disinterest in their sons furry porn.

I kind of wish he was a Trump supporter, because that would be an edgy take for a New York film critic and would make him a perfect sibling nemesis to Chris-Chan.

Alas though, different paths same ends with these two. Both voted FOR HER, Both are fat with tits, and both have nothing better to do than mill about and broadcast on the internet.

The only major difference is that Chris is somewhat e-famous whereas if Cole Smithey didn't have a wife, he'd be begging for quarters outside the Empire State Building.
I like how Cole has the same political opinions as his slightly more mentally impaired half brother.

Also a reminder that she blew the nest egg Bob left them for a hot shot lawyer because there was a chance She would get in the shit, before that Chris always had to use a public defender when in court.

To be honest, if I thought my family didn't appreciate something I did for them, I'd probably make them do it for themselves too, especially if they were grown up and perfectly capable of doing it themselves. I've never threatened suicide, but I have spent more money than I should in the past.

Could that have had something to do with the house being in her name? More to lose?
