The show ending with a dick joke is very on brand.

What an absolutely huge pile of shit.

Fucking hell they really turned the cringe dialogue up to 11 for the finale didn't they. That asshole joke from Frenchie's letter felt like it went on for an eternity. "No way, he'll rip my tits out through my vag" Uuuugh 😖.

That aside, it was such a dogshit season and finale overall. It's almost impressive how badly they fucked it up.

Why is the superheros but with gore genre so cursed?

It should be the easiest win ever but both of the big ones (Invincible and The Boys) are absolute shit and crammed with awful writing and cringe woke politics?
That shit was cursed even in the comics.

When western superhero comics abandoned the child and teen audience and started catering primarily to adults who wanted snuff films with dudes in spandex, it began their decline to the point where anime and Manga surpassed them in sales and popularity.

When you speak of superhero media, kids always talk about the cartoons and movies, not the comics themselves. They have long since left the comics behind, and with the adult fanbase for comics shrinking, there was no going back, since the kids who read comics read Manga instead of western comics.

A man is born in a cage, he has no mother, and no father. Every day they torture him, from sun up until sundown. They vary it, sexual humiliation, psychological abuse, conditioning, physical pain. They tell him how to speak, how to stand, they give him a placeholder name, a thing that sits behind his Hero name. They watch his every move, plan his every hour, hour after hour. One day he finally snaps on the inside, and slowly but surely he kills them off. Until at the end he's on top. A rapid animal off its leash and now in the house. Then they take away his power, and he collapses back into that weeping child, willing to do anything to make the pain stop.

What does this story tell us? What was the author saying? Oh, nothing? Nothing. Lmao.
It really is a tragedy, if you think about it. The Boys should've treated Homelander as a mid-level boss and went for Stan Edgar's head after killing him. After all, it was the suits who created Homelander in the first place.

I didn't hate it. In a vacuum, the finale was OK. The problem is that the show spent the last couple of seasons jerking itself off and trying to have its cake and eat it too. Overall, I'm just glad it's over.

Edit:
Gen V truly was a waste of time. At least Emma showed up for the finale.

It ultimately reinforces the Superman mythos. What makes Clark Kent different to Homelander, Dr. Manhattan, Miracleman, the Plutonian, etc?

Clark Kent is human. He has family and friends. Raised by decent folk who instill in him moral values. He chooses everyday to stand up for Truth, Justice, and the American Way.

There's a whole idea that is in there, about the creation of actual superbeings, and the responsibility of doing that, and how that should be handled or even if it can be handled. But the writing is too amateur hour to even approach it.

Homelander is a Superman with no peer opponent. He was raised to essentially ape the idea that he would have supervillains, his branding, his merchandise, his media. It all portrays him as a figure that exists in opposite to something. That's an interesting idea, that he was raised without a villain, but then treated like a superhero. So he just goes around dispensing John Wayne style justice as he sees fit, he tries to make his own supervillains; to give himself some purpose in a completely empty and vapid life. What is he supposed to even be doing? What is his point of living? He can't stop being Homelander, but Homelander is a nothing, it's an empty, vapid costume that exists to sell toys and vibrators. A garbage man, or a starbucks barrista has more of a purpose in life than John does. Then the story just goes 'lol fuck that, have another cock joke dohohoho!'

A superhuman being should stand outside of what regular humanity can do, and that's for better and for worse. All of the characters have this amazing power, and they don't use it. Not even for their own gain or loss, most of the time they just don't use it. It's such a wasted idea.

Eric Kripke needs to be publicly crucified. I’m not even bothering to watch the finale. The clips I’ve seen have all but confirmed its total shit.

Is there at least any big CGI scenes that were rumored? Like Homelander slaughtering people or fighting the military?

His island his rules

I have been saying this since Season 3, when Homelander was taking the brunt of the blame for Stormfront, as if ANYONE at Vought (those shareholders that Edgar made a point about pleasing to Homelander) had no beef with Edgar about hiring her in the first fucking place.

Homelander didn't advocate for her being in The Seven. Edgar did.

Someone in this thread called this show "mean-spirited", and I don't really think there's a better way of putting it.

It makes me want to bathe myself in the glow of the LOTR extended versions to wash the stink off.

Nowhere near enough characters died
Kills Frenchie, makes Kimiko mute again -- Homelander really is the hero we needed.

90% of Frenchie's will is 'I'm a creep who's seen all of your assholes.' Truly, we lost a special one there.

Oh shit, the season remembered that Ryan exists.

Gen v's so pointless that Annie is basically begging Marie to leave the plot.

Sage gets hit with Kimiko's blast and loses her smart people power, which means she forgets stuff she already knew off by heart? How does 'Smart People power' work, damn it?!

Also, a little pity blast was enough to burn the V out of Sage's system? Soldier Boy hit Kimiko with the full burst to get her down.

Boo, Sage gets to walk away and live her best life. Fuck you.

"Don't worry, we knew that Butcher and his team would use the secret tunnels to try and get into the White House, so we set up doors to trap them inside while we rain bullets down on the group that is 80% bullet proof." "...So, at the very least MM and Hughie-" "Are absolutely untouched."

Starlight doesn't know about the Deep having beef with the fish, but still thinks it's a good idea to tackle the Aquaman expy across the country and to the ocean.

I knew Oh-Father was going to die, but did he have to go out like a bitch?

"Kimiko here has the power to erase your super powers and end your reign." So obviously, Homelander goes for Butcher first.

Don't worry guys, Homelander forgot that he has super speed again.

The Deep is dead, finally.

Homelander tries to run away because if he had any sense about him, Kimiko would be dead, fucking dead.

She is literally just standing there charging up her motivational flashback and Homelander won't even glance her way.

So, literally all that Ryan contributed to the final battle was helping hold Homelander down. Did anything set up throughout this series get an actual pay off?

Homelander begging Butcher and saying he'll suck his dick and eat his shit on live TV. The only way this writing would be more pathetic is if they had him speaking in baby talk.

Okay, I did laugh at Ashley's "No, I'm not resigning, I did nothing wrong." smash cut to her being impeached immediately.

Damn it, Kimiko can speak again.

Ryan cuts off Butcher and the dog immediately dies. Comedy Gold - Oh wait, they're playing the sad music.

And this is what makes Butcher want to kill all Supes now.

God, Hughie sounds like such a twat. "I see, you dragged me through hell for this, to be your canary!"

So, what was Butcher's plan if Hughie did bring backup?

You know, for a series that constantly assures us that Hughie being a weak, weaselly bitch is a good thing, Toxic Masculinity Butcher completely beats his ass and only loses the fight because he gets distracted long enough for Hughie to grab a gun.

This sequence would have had any impact if they had the balls for Butcher to actually kill some motherfuckers. Comic!Billy had the rest of the boys and a whole bunch of innocents on his hands when we reached this climax. Really, this entire ending feels like it's just here because that's how the comic ended.

The real ending should be someone accidentally setting off the sprinklers after all that shit.

MM adopts Ryan, I think?

So, Vaught's back, Stan Edgar gets to run it again, V'd up supes are out to fuck America up just like they were doing before; and Hughie's decided he's not going to do anything about it because he owns a shop now. Butcher's fucking right, a new Homelander is inevitable and you're doing nothing about it.

Don't worry, instead he's going to send his pregnant girlfriend to go fight crime... How does this trope of 'Pregnant Supes' keep coming up?!

Finally, this shit is over. This show will never be re watched by fans or a new audience since everything after season 1 was just inserting the current new thing and make "jokes" about it. Nobody will get it since it's such a forgettable goyslop.

It would have been more interesting if Homelander became "normal" after losing his powers. It would have at least been intertwined with the themes earlier on in the show with how V fucks with people. V is shown to fuck with people's heads after taking it. That was the entire point with Temp V Butcher going "it made me more me" and all the stuff going in with Butcher in Season 4. Someone like Homelander exists because of V, and all the institutions surrounding Vought. Could have been somewhat interesting to see him deal with becoming normal.

But, that would have required the writers to think about the overarching plot they are writing instead of dick and ass jokes. Actually no, Saige's entire mentally was shown to change after depowering. They had to just think about the episode.

Vought marches on, that is the message clearly.

Something like Marvel Cosmic Invasion had a better superhero story than this entire show did after Season 1. The bad guys are treated seriously (sans MODOK), the heroes are actually effective, the main villain (Annihilus) is smart enough to strike deals with multiple factions (Thanos, AIM, Master Mold) to bolster his forces and get the job done, and he even mind-controls certain entities and heroes (Galactus, Silver Surfer, Phoenix, Phyla-Vell) in order to use them as weapons, like when he used Galactus to destroy Asgard. And when cornered, the main villain at least burned down NYC before the heroes inevitably took him down.

I was playing it last night when testing out the new DLC characters (Cyclops and the Thing) and I compared it to the Boys once I woke up this morning. Funny how a game made with a minimum story because the main focus of the game is kicking the shit out of people has a better story overall when it doesn't have to rely on crude sex jokes.

Imagine if Homelander just lived the life of a simple country bumpkin after losing his powers. Just farming and selling food to grocery stores, staring out in the countryside, actually content with his lot in life now that he's out of the limelight. He's been reduced to a mortal man toiling for his daily bread, but he couldn't be happier. He finds a wife, sires a child, and he wants for nothing more than what he has.

That would've been a nice way to end his tale. Or at least a thought-provoking way to do it. Then maybe, the next generation of would-be heroes starts to resist Stan Edgar and Vought, and John helps them out with his own knowledge of Vought and how its systems work. He might even die a heroic death at the hands of a "successor" of his, a perfected "product" that was made by Stan Edgar from the templates of both Homelander and Soldier Boy. That would be ironic as hell.

I still don't understand this season. Why did they show posters of Homelander in space watching the world burn? Why did they show Vought tower falling? I think even the marketing guys were bamboozled. Where did all that amazon money go, Kripke?
