The Boys - An Amazon Prime adaptation of the Ennis comic series

The Frenchie/Kimiko plotline was brought to its conclusion in the worst possible way. This season spent multiple episodes underlining that they weren't compatible, that Frenchie didn't really understand Kimiko's wishes and Kimiko wanted stability and didn't want to try and "tame" Frenchie.

Then out of nowhere Frenchie pulls out a speech about settling down in Marseilles, having three children and look here's the dog we can adopt! Oh no he died. What a surprise. It would have been considerably more meaningful if they'd spent the season building up them planning a life together in the background of other episodes a bit more organically and then oh no, heroic sacrifice. Maybe Homelander locks Frenchie in the radiation chamber and they find him collapsed and burned, instead we get the hackneyed "Here's a photo of my sweetheart back home"/"I'm on week from retirement" plot beat. Credit where it's due, Kimiko's actress did a pretty good job, but the whole thing was crap and it didn't need a goodbye speech.

I was also exhausted with yet another "Butcher's a conflicted person who's maybe not such a great guy and Hughie you have to be his conscience because you can hope" story, I didn't need to see Catwoman and Dogman sniff each other and talk about what they had for lunch for what felt like 10 minutes while MM and Startlight mug to the camera "this is craaaazy". Nor did I need to see Frenchie and a lobotimsed Sage discuss the merits of Love Island. The show also has introduced a couple of characters from Generation V, but I have no context for who they are besides the black girl being super powerful but then dismissed as not being useful because oh no, Starlight is cynical and disappoints the idealistic youngster who looks up to her (they already did this with Maeve and Starlight).

I'll watch to the end mostly to know how Homelander dies (I assume that's the ending) but the only characters I'm still enjoying are Deep and Ashley, and Ashley's on thin ice after this episode. Thinking about it, Deep's been consistently the most enjoyable character because he's usually got his own separate comedic plot going on that's relatively unrelated to the "main" characters.

Only thing that really bugged me about this is Sage was wasting time for no other reason other than she wanted to be a lazy nigger. For the World's Smartest Person why the fuck didn't she just go to her bunker and hide from Homelander? She had no plans to protect herself from Homelander? Like 1-800-COME-ON-NOW the writers of this show are lazy niggers too.

I HOPE that the finale is a super long episode like 2 hours, I hope that is what they are planning for the finale. a Ultra long 2 hour finale that does it.. If they do actually do that then I have hope.
 
I am gonna reserve my thoughts on the season once its over.

But it really is sad that the best parts so far of the season in terms of recurring elements are just how A-Train was handled, The Deep, and Oh Father

I like Homelander, but my god I hated how fucking stupid he became in the last two episodes from not bothering to kill The Boys and Sage when they were right there, or just fucking leaving their base after killing Frenchie even though his superhearing should allow him to be capable of hearing Butcher and Hughie entering the school or Kimiko/Sage leaving their hiding spot.

A lot of stuff in this season is just carried in isolated episodes or the acting performances as Karl Urban, Antony Star, and Jensen are really giving their all to such a dogshit script.

Just remember, Kripke thought Dogshit and Shetard sniffing one another was an absolutely mandatory inclusion to TheBoys™ experience, but thought this scene was completely superfluous and completely cut it .

A scene that's massive character development for one of the main characters and extremely important for one of the minor ones was completely cut to put more dick and sex jokes in. Kravo Bripke.

Most of the characters are retconned in some way. Soldier Boy was obsessed with Crimson Countess not Stormfront. Homelander was attracted to women sexually as mother figures not just an asexual weirdo. Frenchie had a fag lover named Colin and wasn't in love with Kimiko. Black Noir 2 could fly and had narcolepsy at one point. Marie was a Homelander level fighter who finally mastered her powers but is now useless. Firecracker was a bully who grew up rich but is now an orphan raised by her pastor.

He was obviously in love with Kimiko but then all of a sudden was made super gay for no reason at all when before it was the standard "when you do enough drugs anyone is fuckable" thing. I just know it was someone back stage that decided it was creepy or something so they pivoted even though a man and a woman trauma bonding like that happens every time if you have any real life experience with that.

Wtf why wasn't this kept in this season? If anything it let's you know why Homelander dissolved the Seven and it adds tension to the Deep vs Black Noir 2 feud because BN2 being a theater actor on the side would've been the secret that he was holding back from Homelander. Also Deep was retarded for not telling Homelander that and he should've been scared that Homelander would kill him for killing BN2 because as Homelander says Black Noir was his favorite. Fucking Kripke. Obviously Seth Rogen has just made him more retarded with all the fart and dick jokes added in. Imagine being more retarded than Seth Rogen and Mark Millar combined? Oh right.

As i've said before that's why "punk" characters always fucking suck in TV shows/movies.

An unpredictable nihilistic dickhead who just does whatever they want because of drugs or "trauma" or whatever? I wouldn't want to have anything to do with someone like that in real life so why the fuck do you expect me to give a shit about them as a character in a TV show?

I'm just rolling my eyes at their constant whinging and hoping they get killed off as soon as possible.
 
I haven't watched this since S3, but from what I've heard this final season is a massive dud. Yet another show in the pile of ones that started off really good, before suffering a big decline in quality, and now has a final season fans absolutely hate.
 
Homelander trying to become God is so stupid, it beggars belief. He needed juicing from V1 in order to get stronger. We saw him nearly die in Season 3. A strike team of Starlight fans trained in martial arts and juiced up on Temp V could've killed him two seasons ago.

It would've made more sense if he tried to make himself God's anointed. Lean in on that Evangelical/Conservative base and say that God gave him the power to save the world. Then, if you want to make it nuanced, have it so that Homelander and his Vought scientists develop a newer, safer version of V1, and per Sister Sage's advice, Homelander reaches out to jobless millennials and Gen Z who can't get a working job that can provide for a family of four or buy a house. Homelander instead offers them the chance to be a superhero, and by extension, a job that is stable, paid for by the Vought company, and can offer them the chance to merchandise themselves and make more money down the line.

You can even have the theme of trans-humanism thrown in, since V1 basically stops people from aging, so a lot of people who want to stay young forever will sign up. It would also explain why Sister Sage and Homelander would target the young, as they want people at the height of their physical prowess when giving them the V1, so they stay strong forever and are more useful for a longer period of time.

That way, Butcher, Hughie, Annie, MM, Marie, and Kimiko have to fight their way through an army of Supes who are genuinely loyal to Homelander, not because he claims to be God, but because he provided for these lost souls a way out of their hopeless situation; he provided them with hope, freedom, power, and the chance for wealth and glory. Butcher would have good reason to put Homelander six feet under, but many of Homelander's new supes would also have a good reason to try and stop Butcher, because Homelander offered them hope when nobody was helping them, and he gave them genuine power and a chance to make good money. And that way, Sister Sage isn't just some lazy shit, her plan would actually result in a stronger, Supe-dominated government where Homelander listens to her, because her plan works. Basically, she'd be the Otto Bismarck to his Kaiser Wilhelm I.

By extension, Homelander would retain the loyalty of Soldier Boy, who'd see this happening, see all the people who Homelander lifted from poverty to greatness, see the people slowly recovering under Vought and Homelander's watch and Soldier Boy would be fighting for Homelander's side because he sees his son offering the country a new hope, and he believes that it's right. That they're bringing back America as a land of opportunity for the hopeless, a place where anyone willing to work can become great, which by extension, would have them be the ones Making America Great Again. There you go. A MAGA Homelander/Soldier Boy team up that can prove to be a valid threat to anyone who wants to stop Supe Supremacy, but one that has a decent explanation as to why they have that kind of support, outside of just "LOL dumb conservative Christians are stupid."

I just watch a few clips now and then, but I'm not surprised at how cheap this show looks now in its final season. I mean, that happens, for another superhero series example, looking at the CW's Arrow and The Flash, etc. you could tell where they were cutting corners pretty easily, it's something that goes on with TV shows, they tend to look for ways to pare down the budget which is why most series that last past a season or three end up having more walking and talking scenes, more scenes of people just standing in the middle of a room and jabbering at each other. Some dramas, you can get away with that, but for say an action series or a superhero series, it just becomes obvious. Especially with "action" scenes that get wrapped up really quickly.

The Comedian knew that the squid was fake as well. He uncovered the whole plot. He didn't go crazy because he thought there was an extra-dimensional monster. He broke down because of the enormity of what Ozymandias was planning and because he was trapped in the same trap that Owlman and Manhattan and Laurie all end up in - that only by dooming the world can they "win". He breaks down because after a lifetime of burying any human parts of himself in nihilism and cynicism, he finds he doesn't have enough of either to deal with this. By the time Veidt kills him, he's just sitting in his apartment waiting to die. Hell, he hasn't even left New York which he knows will be destroyed as soon as Veidt has the last pieces in place which could be any week now.

All this to say, I don't think the squid is needed at all to explain the Comedian's emotional collapse. I am firmly on team non-squid, btw. I'm pretty certain that if the endings were reversed and Moore wrote the Manhattan ending and Zack Snyder threw it out because he wanted a giant alien squid out of nowhere, people would tear him a new one for it.

The new ending would work better if Jon was in on the joke. With the squid, eventually, the Russians will wonder why the aliens haven't launched another attack, and Veidt would have to find an excuse or another way to stage an alien attack in order to keep the Americans and Russians working together.

Whereas if the threat is Dr. Manhattan, all Ozymandias would need to do is persuade Jon to work with him and blow up a few things here and there, now and then. Just to keep the Reds and the Yanks scared enough to stay on the same side. It's easier to control people if you can control the one thing that scares the shit out of them.

They'd never do that because of the same reason why they don't have as a central plot point a literal arms race of Evil Corps, private citizens, and governments creating their own supes via creating their own V serums, genetic modifications, power armor, super weapons, etc. IE, the writers and show runners have decided to make holy law one the most retarded aspects of the comic, which is that Voight has a monopoly on all super heroes and their creations and no one cares challenge them, not even world governments because fuck you that's why.

I've said it before; one of most the logical changes for any adaption of the Boys that changes as much as the Amazon adaption of the Boys did should have been the fact that there should have been a super powers arms race or at the very least, some sort of draconian super hero registration act type deal where only approved corporations being allowed to field supes and only in limited affairs (search and rescue and disaster relief) and a thriving underground of vigilantes and mother fucking super villains flaunting the law.
