It's very very funny that due to misplaced vanity in the part of the actor the character is now ugly inside and out.
And yet they want us to like her and see her as the main good guy.

People like good guys like Luke Skywalker and Optimus Prime because they aren't unbearable cunts. They're very empathetic and kind, seeing the good in even the worst of people. Even DC's Wonder Woman and Marvel's Black Cat are likeable because of their personality.

The question is, what is likeable about Show!Starlight? At least the comic version gives Hughie tons of sex, so the comic wins decisively on that front. Show!Starlight is just a preachy whiner 50% of the time. With the other 50%, she's just a useless B-grade hero. You could've easily replaced her with Maeve or Neuman and the Boys would be far better off. At least Maeve can be a badass and Neuman has political skills on top of being the head-popper. Starlight is as much of a joke as Hughie is.

Did Starlight ever ever get me fookin son back from Homelander who dun fookin took him?
Nope. All she does is fail, which makes her and the Boys look impotent. Even Butcher. Replace him with Soldier Boy as the leader and the show would've improved 75% if SB starts bossing Butcher, MM, Starlight, and Hughie around.

I cannot overstate how much I fucking hate Annie as a character

HOW DARE YOU NOT REALIZE THAT THE PERSON WHO LOOKED LIKE ME WITH ALL OF MY KNOWLEDGE AND MEMORIES WASN‘T MEEEEEEEE

As if it wouldn’t be fucking traumatizing to realize that the person you love had been replaced with an evil doppleganger that then almost killed you.
They should have rubbed it in and CGIed her pre-bog face on the shapeshifter.

This episode was so much better than the rest of the season because stuff actually happened.

The only glaring flaw was that we are supposed to believe that Hughie didn't notice that Annies personality changed completely when the shapeshifter swapped with her. He's around supes a lot, he'd have to at least suspect that she's being mind controlled or some shit even without the Boys literally encountering a shapeshifter a day or two before she did a complete 180 in how she was behaving.

If all episodes were like this I wouldn't be conflicted. Some basic observations:

- Erin had her best scenes out of the entire series as the shapeshifter. She even looked healthier, less Ozempic. Back to being the joyless anorexic whine mom again.
- As has already been stated, Butcher letting Zoey live in his venom state doesn't quite work.
- Also there is zero excuse once Homelander's Order 66 went out that any of the Boys would be left alive... except for the old trope of saving the good guys for gloating bad guy monologues.
- Frenchie prayed the gay away and it's okay. But... man card revoked!
- Sage is the type of character to get plot armor for this season. I was hoping she'd be a little more chaotic neutral and have a plan to take out HL for her own reasons. He should be the one to end her though.
- Lol they completely dropped Ashley after taking V. Must have been an interesting scene they cut.
- They have a good setup for a final season, but let's wrap this up before Homolander gets incestual.

This season ended on a high note. There were so many ways that the writers could have fucked it up, but the ending was really solid and sets up a really interesting final season.

Positives:
-I enjoyed Sister Sage.
-Gen V wasn't overbearing.
-New Noir started off annoying but he grew on me.
-Deep was relatively good this season.
-There were several reminders that Starlight is just another supe.
-Butcher was pretty good.

Negatives:
-Most of the episodes this season sucked.
-Frenchie's arc was dumb and gay. Complete waste of time.
-A-Train's redemption arc was heavy handed and needed more development. He is the reason Hughie is where he is and there needed to be a lot more time spent on that story.
-A lot of characters were wasted or just didn't live up to their full potential. Tek-Knight was the worst example. This problem became really apparent in the ending montage when they're forced to go back to minor characters from S2 because there isn't anybody else from the main series.
-So many things happen just to happen. They leave no lasting impression or impact on the story. It's meant to be comedy but it comes off wrong and messes with the overall tone of the story.
-Mallory goes full retard for little reason.
-Kimiko has worn out her welcome. Either commit to making her an extra or write something good.

I’m honestly cheering for Homelander at this stage. The writers have utterly failed in what they have set out to do.

It’s amazing what a guy can put up with if he’s getting his hole. That‘s why we all have one or two BPD chicks in our past we should have dumped straight away but it was way too fun for longer than is actually healthy.

I will agree that Annie was best when she was shapeshifted (and also looked healthier/less deformed)

I still think the best episode of the season was Homelander‘s trip home tho

Now me with the retard stickers, but could part of the haggard look be down to makeup?

She‘s a stronk womyn so they’ve given her weird make up to make her look less attractive so clone the clone version of her looks hotter?

Am I just keeping up hope that the hot Starlight I fell in love with is still there under all the cynicism?

Female Kiwis, is the above totally dumb?

They could have shot parts of the final episode first. Makeup can do wonders though so they could have been going extra skull face on her for a minute.

How could you enjoy that character at all?

-New Noir started off annoying but he grew on me.
I found it dumb that he spoke and was just a bro. The whole series he was brooding and mysterious then suddenly hes like the deep2.

The only glaring flaw was that we are supposed to believe that Hughie didn't notice that Annies personality changed completely when the shapeshifter swapped with her.
Yet she expected everyone to play along and pretend not to notice when she showed up to work with a completely different face. Probably somebody politely asked if she had been replaced by a shapeshifter and she cried in the bathroom for three hours, and now everybody is afraid to say anything no matter how weird she acts.

The shifter has all of Annie's memories, but of all the incidents she uses to mock Annie for acting high and mighty, it's her getting sexually assaulted. Not, you know, the one where she murdered an innocent guy and couldn't bring herself to care about it.

Hughie got pegged. They really want you to know that Hughie got pegged.

This whole 'devil on the shoulder' deal with Kessler doesn't really work when Kessler doesn't actually say anything that actually convinces Butcher. He just keeps repeating 'You want to do the bad thing'. It's a worthless character struggle because there's no actual inner debate happening.

Homelander fucking himself over again because that's the only way the plot can progress.

MM is making all these plans to account for the Shifter, but never considers that the Shifter could be pretending to be one of them; especially after Hughie directly tells him that all his important blackmail data has been mysteriously erased.

"You gotta have backups or something!" "The backups have been erased." The fuck is the point of backing up critical data you know people want to erase if you keep the backup on the same bloody hard drive?!

Of all the things to tip Hughie off, it's the Shifter using the same phrase to describe being hot as she did when they first found her.

Hughie and MM now know Annine is the Shifter and they decide... Not to raise the alarm?

How did Annie get inside the secure bunker that's on high alert?

And of course, it's Hughie's fault that a shapeshifter who literally has all your memories and personality traits down pat tricked him and raped him.

Seriously fuck Starlight. Hughie has been enduring your self righteous bullshit 'complications' for this entire relationship, you don't get to suddenly accuse him of only wanting you to be supportive and sexy. And, of course, Hughie isn't allowed to clap back or stand up for himself, he's only allowed to tell her how wonderful and amazing she is.

Neuman, you work for genocidal psychopath and have murdered several innocent people for your own personal gain; Hughie trying to rightfully kill you does not give you the moral high ground.

You wanna bet that Hughie's speech about forgiveness and how hating or hurting the people who hurt you, no matter how terrible, isn't brave won't be applied to any of the characters the writers hate?

No, Annie, you don't get to make jokes about Hughie having shifter STDs. Apologize.

So, the Colin plotline literally existed just to make pointless drama for Frenchie and Kimiko's romance?

I'm so happy that Frenchie got off scott free from the countless innocents he's killed because he forgives himself.

Butcher's gone full genocide because Ryan killed the woman trying to lock him away and gas him until he agreed to be a weapon. Honestly, this whole Kessler/Becca bullshit meant nothing, it was just there so Butcher can literally argue with himself.

Sage is so smart that she knew the script would give her plot armour that stopped Homelander from killing her like he would literally anyone else fucking with him like this.

This isn't Sage being smart, this is Sage reading ahead in the script. Fuck, her plan would have completely failed if Butcher hadn't suddenly decided to kill Neuman. As far as she knew, the Boys had no way of killing Nueman.

Starlight's hands can sparkle again because... Uh... Getting kidnapped somehow helped her realize who she was?

I'm assuming all the people kidnapping the Boys are from Gen V.

Did Annie just abandon Hughie!?

Of all the things to tip Hughie off, it's the Shifter using the same phrase to describe being hot as she did when they first found her.
That was a fucking awful shapeshifter plotline.

They had so many different tropes to use, and somehow managed to get none of them.

1) Shapeshifter girl seems to be a perpetual loner. She could have genuinely wanted to be "like" Annie, and lectured her about how she's an awful person who doesn't deserve Hughie. Would've made a lot more sense, if she has Annie's memories, and would explain why she repeatedly fucks him, and would explain why Annie is sad about it.

2) Shapeshifter had literally no personality or backstory. I thought it was Firecracker for a while because she just seems to be spiteful towards Annie for seemingly no reason.

3) Misfits had several shapeshifter/personality split/"angel on my shoulder" kind of plotlines. Each one was done far better. Actually, most of The Boys can be summed up as "Misfits, with more budget and worse writing"

I suspect that Ashleigh was a She-Hulk reference and they opted to take salt out of the wound a little, because of the existing assassination plotline. Black Noir and the Deep vs BDSM She-Hulk is exactly what I would expect from this season. The Deep and Black Noir, despite having an ongoing weird subplot, just vanish halfway through the episode alongside Ashleigh. The last thing we see of The Deep this season is him looking at Noir's cock, and Noir saying "Murder boner" while bickering about which Ashleigh they're talking about.

I’m honestly cheering for Homelander at this stage. The writers have utterly failed in what they have set out to do.
Who wouldn't? The show writers have failed to create appealing heroes. Butcher's a pussy, Hughie's a wimp, Starlight's a bitch, the other guys are filler characters, no shit, people sympathize with Psycho Superman. Especially when he opposes the people who stand for the current thing while unabashedly parading himself in nationalism and religion. Making him the equivalent of a Holocaust victim who shoved the Nazis who mistreated him into the oven makes him even more compelling.

You can tell that Starlight is Kripke's favorite character with how much he glazes how great she is and how easy it is to tell her actress probably is bored while doing her.

Especially compared to the shapeshifter which allowed her to have more fun and loose, and not be a whiny nag.

At least Maeve can be a badass and Neuman has political skills on top of being the head-popper. Starlight is as much of a joke as Hughie is.
It doesn't help Maeve and Neuman are more entertaining characters than Starlight. Hell Kimiko is more fun than her, Kimiko at least has more range of emotions than preachy whiner.

Starlight peaked when she was part of the Seven, since she joined the Boys, its been all downhill from there.

Love how the show treats Hughie as the bad guy for being mislead and tricked by a shapeshifter who had all of Starlights memories and an exact replica of her body.
Also am confused on why they chose to make Hughie lie about knowing it wasn’t Annie based on small quirks when it was really just her saying “It’s like a furnace in here…” I’m sure it’s because he’s painted as the bad guy and needs to explain himself but it’s stupid overall.
