Season finale's up, so looks like they chose not to delay after all. Hoo boy, time to see how well this shit's going to have aged before it even came out.
They did change the title though.

Too much plot armor. Butcher wants superhero genocide but lets Zoey live. He should have wiped out everyone in that room including the Boys members. His character is a such a huge weakling. Sam letting Kimiko live was ridiculous. Same with Cate letting Frenchie live. These people just got blamed on assassinating the Vice President and Homelander hates them. He should not let them live because they already killed multiple powerful superheroes and have proven to be dangerous. Hughie should be dead as well just because of how it would mentally weaken Starlight. I said in another post that every season features a prison escape and next season will be no different.

They cut the scene of Ryan killing other people at the CIA apparently. And cut part of Ashley's scene where she takes Compound V (it was more violent). Sister Sage's plan was hilariously contrived. It relied on the assassin failing and Nuemann getting randomly killed to work. The entire military just accepting Homelander is also not believable.

Fifth season seems pretty predictable. Ryan breaks The Boys out of their prisons for the first two episodes. Ryan kills Soldier Boy in the next episode. Homelander kills Ryan in response. Butcher kills nearly every superhero including Starlight on his way to genocide. Butcher kills Homelander and releases the superhero virus killing all superheroes including himself. Hughie survives the finale. All superheroes are dead. Deep survives underwater and the world forgets he was even alive.

Spoilers for those without prime to watch the show:

So for the finale:

Homelander outs Victoria Newman as a super on live TV, then orders a purge of everyone at Voight who isn't 100% loyal to him. Ashley flees and uses Compound V on herself but we don't see the end results. The Victoria/Homelander alliance collapses when Homelander threatens her daughter if she goes against his plan.

President Singer is sworn in and goes into a secret bunker as he knows Victoria wants him dead so she will become President and rule alongside Homelander. Fake Starlight (now engaged to Hughie) tries to kill him but the real Starlight escapes captivity and kills the fake. While pissed that Hughie couldn't tell a fake from the real thing, the two reconcile.

Ryan flees from Homelander and goes to Butcher, but Grace Mallory shows up demanding Ryan be turned over to her so she can start training him to kill so he can kill Homelander. Ryan refuses and kills Grace, then flees and isn't seen for the rest of the episode.

Butcher reunites with the Boys as Victoria contacts Hughie and offers alliance with her acting as the group's mole in exchange for their help stopping Homelander and protecting her daughter. Butcher refuses any alliance and kills Victoria and runs off, virus in hand.

Sage reappears before Homelander, who reveals she's been working with Speaker of the House Calhoun and is now about to carry out her evil scheme which she apparently didn't bother telling Homelander about. Recordings of President Singer talking to the Boys and Mother's Milk in particular, about killing Victoria Newman that Sage obtained from early in the episode, are made public and Singer is forcibly removed from office and charged with murder. Calhoun becomes the new President and declares martial law and gives permission for Homelander and his super hero allies to arrest the Starlighter (Starlight's followers who are all minorities and women and gays/trans types) and the Boys. The entire group save for Starlight (who escapes) and Butcher (already on his own prepping to use the virus) are left free as the final moment shows Calhoun showing Homelander his dad Soldier Boy's frozen body.

At this point, they really need to bite the bullet and just start introducing super villains to salvage shit. Homelander takes over and actually makes she great much to Annie and Butcher's horror as their takeover causes America to basically stop being a shitty place to live in in the first world. BUT with utopia comes the serpents: in this case, super villains who start fucking shit up and putting Homelander into a position where he's top dog but now has managed to get all of the snakes out of their hiding spots and out in the open that is the super villain community, who have been doing a Wanted-type hiding in plain sight deal, and worse, the not-Fraternity of Evil were the real genius behind the virus and they are immune to it, meaning Butcher, Ryan, and Annie have to work with Homelander to save humanity.

They did change the title though.

I forgot I'd looked up the finale's title earlier, I knew they'd obviously changed it but I forgot it was as blatant as that. Didn't tone down the description though:
Calling all patriots! We will not allow this stolen election to be certified tomorrow! We must stop Bob Singer’s woke anti-Supe agenda! PREPARE FOR WAR! #WhereWeGoOneWeGoVought
Well, after watching it, it feels in a way like seeing the bullet we dodged in reality thanks to Trump dodging his. Everything's fucked politically, nation's in turmoil, half of the country wants to destroy the other half by any means necessary...let's just say that this episode, and this entire season, would have had a very different feeling had Saturday's events gone differently.

I don't even know what to say exactly. I doubt that Kripke and Rogen are going to want to tone things down at all despite the real world showing what happens when rhetoric gets violently out of hand, and with the way the season ends (see the previous post), they really can't shy away from their "Trump Homelander becomes Ultra-Hitler" fantasies at this point.

But their "satire" doesn't really hold up at all, especially not now. They're not holding a mirror up to society when their side has been wishing violent death on conservatives, with the aftermath of the shooting really showing the masks falling off (and you bet your ass they were probably bemoaning the shooter's aim themselves). They're Hollywood liberals that are so divorced from reality that they can't even begin to figure out how to poke fun at it. All they know is cheap shots that haven't been relevant in years, along with a heavy dose of crass sex scenes and other juvenile methods of shocking the audience.

With how far this show's fallen off a hill, it's a mercy that they're only getting one more season. I won't be sorry to see it go. But hey, at least we finally got to see Kimiko speak.

I skipped over spoilers in the thread, but now that you mention it, those scenes did feel like they ended abruptly. Probably didn't want Ryan to look like he'd completely lost it so they can do some kind of redemption later. And yeah, Ashley just kind of...disappeared, which was odd.

I can't say I was surprised to see Sage show up in the end and be like "aha! everything went according to plan all along!" Honestly, I expected it, though I'm at a loss as to what her original plan would have been without those "curveballs" she mentioned. If her goal was to get the much weaker patsy Speaker to be president, how was she intending on getting rid of both Singer and Neuman? Was the assassination plot the goal for Singer all along? Were they going to try and frame Neuman for it and force her out that way?

Fuck if I know, the writers sure didn't. All they needed to do was have the sassy black lady show up to take credit for things magically working out and call it a day. Stupid people can't write smart people.

They can still salvage it if they go full Miracleman by way of Wanted: Homelander creates a Utopia but you now have to deal with Wesley/The Killer and his ilk coming out of the woodworks and fuck up the Utopia Homelander built and worse, they've been busy way longer than anyone knew and they are all immune to the current Checkov Gun that is the virus.

We're never going to get Miracleman made into a TV show or movie and with Neil Gaiman getting #MeToo, might not even get the Dark Age published. Basically taking the Boys and turning it into a numbers filed off rip-off of Miracleman (which itself is a bastardized Captain Marvel) would be fitting and at least salvage something from this mess. Especially if they lean hard on the idea of Homelander winning but having his first long overdue epiphany over the fact that he's still not happy or content. Which would be the worst kind of fate you could give Homelander if you want to be cruel: he gets his super run Utopia with himself as King but is completely miserable and it brings him no joy.

thinking of this old 4chan post:

They wrote Sage like they wrote Sherlock. She just magically knows things. There were so many potential points of failure with her plan that just got glossed over because smart black lady is magic I guess.

Yeah it was definitely All Lives Matter pandering all over the media! And this is what's wrong with the boys, trying to turn every jokes on conservatives even if it doesn't make any sense, awful writing.

This was the best episode of the series, but it didnt really have a high bar.

They could salvaged this if they just have the last series if they just have balls out action and fuck off with the preaching.

Also, I miss why female nudity bros. We had the arse of what was clearly a body double for Starlight but we really need Firecracker’s tits in Series 5.

I am surprised that there wasn’t some breakup between Starlight and Hughie, it’s surprising they even stayed together given Kripke’s track record.

As for everything else, it’s mostly alright except for the Sage stuff where she magically planned this out because of course she did.

Anyway hope season 5 is pure superhero genocide

Kimiko my poor waifu ;(

Pretty good episode, surprised that they went with the total chud victory ending. Glad to see Sister Sage again (hopefully not for the last time)

The Starlight/Hughie spergout after they deal with the shapeshifters retarded though. Dude technically got raped 20 times and shes the one thats crying about it.

If you permit me to play devil’s advocate/reddit faggot for a moment, but Hughie has been a victim of sex by deception, so he’s been raped multiple times, again.

If this had happened to Starlight the soy faces out there would be having a meltdown that could be seen from space.

Now, I should clarify that I think the hypersensitivity about portrayal of rape in media/art is top tier Reddit faggotry and people clutching pearls about the Tek Knight orgy should kill themselves, but it is fun to try and make these fuckers adhere to their own rules constantly.

I don’t know who you are but I like your thinking.

I cannot overstate how much I fucking hate Annie as a character

HOW DARE YOU NOT REALIZE THAT THE PERSON WHO LOOKED LIKE ME WITH ALL OF MY KNOWLEDGE AND MEMORIES WASN‘T MEEEEEEEE

As if it wouldn’t be fucking traumatizing to realize that the person you love had been replaced with an evil doppleganger that then almost killed you.
