They definitely expanded way too fast and are spreading themselves extremely thin. Most studios stick to one or two projects tops until they’re so established they can afford a massive multinational workforce, said studios also usually get contracts to animate specific shows. Titmouse is a great example, as a studio they create relatively little, but they’re the largest contractor in the American industry and constantly have a stream of high profile projects they’re hired to animate.
I’d say the studio that so far has done it mostly right is Spindelhorse. Hazbin Hotel was their breakout hit, they immediately licenses it to A24 who brought bento box in to fill out the workforce with experienced animators, and then they used the profits to make Helluvaboss independently, but they haven’t attempted much more at the moment.
