Also, when they're actual geniuses like Terry, it renders them too zombified to do the only things that give their lives meaning. Terry was one of the unfortunate ones where he really couldn't be effectively treated, and where the sledgehammer type antipsychotics just turned him retarded, and he couldn't stand to be turned into a retard.

A lot of time when schizos stop taking their meds it's because they believe they're being poisoned. This isn't even wrong because they are. The latest gens of antipsychotics are sometimes miraculous, but they don't work for everyone. I know people who have turned from totally nonfunctional to functioning on a professional level, to the point you'd never sus them out as actual schizos.

Maybe he was just born under a bad sign. Who knows? Much of his life seems to have been cursed.

Also absolutely fuck that scumbag who got him that drum set. That guy will burn in Hell.

Did he not make the decision to stop taking medication, and that's when he started spiraling and became homeless? When you say "He could have received medication, but did not", isn't that the same kind of despair? The guy made those decisions that put him into the point of no return, and it's sad. I'm not trying to perpetuate sadness over it, it's just yea, hindsight.

Sorry for the late reply, saw what you wrote on a coffee break but don't tend to reply during work hours.
He did make that decision, antipsychotic medication has a tranquilizing effect. In higher dosages such as risperidone it has a sleep inducing effect even if you are well rested because it blocks otherwise overactive receptors which would stimulate you to stay awake (good for daytime but risks insomnia at night). I can see why he chose to stop them, frankly. However there are other medications which would have sufficed without turning off his brain, as @mindlessobserver mentioned it. Start at a high dosage then taper off until he is functional without hindering his life.

Think about Schizophrenia is that the sufferer doesn't know they have it, even if told he has it by a professional. Which hinders cooperation. Especially because Schizophrenia is rather convincing and vivid with obsessions, compulsions and hallucinations. Unlike OCD, where the sufferer knows these obsessions/compulsions are irrational but do them to relieve stress until managed with coping skills/meds, and are more cooperative in treatment. In the future that should hopefully be a significant factor in treatment, and give power to parents/caregivers/friends to consent to treat the sufferers if proven they would pose a significant danger to themselves.

Don't worry how you come off, it's a tricky subject and elicits an emotional response. Overall it is clear you do want to help these people but the sad reality is that treatment is often limited, however there is potential in the future. You're alright, and most likely have your own stuff going on, and I wish you the best.

I know Terry has a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, but has anyone on the forum ever found his Master's Thesis? Out of all the things, I don't recollect anyone posting his Master's Thesis. I bet it would make for a good read if found.
 
Ive been using TempleOS for a few months & made this for terry.
a lot of stuff I made or took from Temple, most sounds were randomly generated
and I guess while im here, his oracle really gave me the ghost hunter wtf kinda spooks
I decided to get all weird and ask the computer questions then hit f7 once
for instance, I said where is Terry now f7"software"
I said we still think about you Terry f7"obedient"
I asked if he was okay it said f7"excluded"
I said thanks for everything f7"touchedst"

A youtuber who did some bigger videos during the piratesoftware debacle is going over Terry and TempleOS.

 
If someone is going to make yet another Terry Davis video the least they could do is cover some post-Terry TempleOS development. It's been 7 years.
 


Simon Whistler also put out a video on him, notably, on his "Into the Shadows" channel. While the video discusses an overview of Davis as a whole and using the later half to discuss the OS I did feel the need to point out;
