Terraria was better when they weren't trying to peddle it as some sort of a skill based arena bullet hell with none of the nuance, control or fine tuning of an actual bullet hell with god awful bosses like moonlord.

So anyone tried mediumcore? It becomes a completely different game when you play it in that mode.
I played that exclusively ever since it was added. Hardcore is too BS because of all the sheer amount of grind and simplistic combat (at least, until you get enough mobility tools and ranged/magic weapons), but Runescape-style full inventory drop does add some spice. Add to that the fact that your items can fall into a pool of lava and get destroyed, for instance, or you can lose your best mobility tools in an area that is assrape city without said mobility tools, and it starts to get interesting.
But yeah, fuckers should move on and make another fucking game already.

Reminds me of how ArenaNet got Jeremy fucking Soule to compose soundtrack for GW2 at first, and when they couldn't afford him any longer, got some tranny to do the music instead.
Didn't Mr Soule get rekt by accusations of sexual impropriety? I thought GW2 dropped him because of that...

So they got rid of someone falsely accused (no criminal process, just some vapid hole hungry for attention and high off #metoo cult), and hired a certified sex pest. Cool.
I remember hearing a time ago that Soule had already burned his bridges with most of his peers, and the allegations stuff was just the cherry on top.

I think I heard that from /v/ so take it with a grain of salt.

Yeah, it becomes a completely different game. You have to double up, triple up your gear, plan different bases. You get a real good feel for underground bases, plannning and layout. Night events are oneshot.

Hoh the horror when you spawn in the ground level base with no gear during a Goblin invasion. And then pass thrugh wall ghost starts to appear due to all the ghosts that starts to appear due to the somehow being a lot of gravestones. Fun times!

And you must always have spare time, you do not pop in on evening for a quick run. If you die you have to recover your stuff before you exit.

Feels like they took heavy inspo from Calamity for this to which I say. Leave mod stuff in the mods.

I have defeated moon lord on mediumcore & Master.
I used to play it a lot back when Golem was the final boss, i stopped once i started to get into the building autism and got bored of getting spawn camped by pirates.

Speds from community harassed DM DOKURO into leaving the project, and nothing his "replacements" did sounded even remotely as good. I'm painfully aware of both of those, unfortunately. The Calamity fanbase went full retard and Dokuro told them to fuck off. The other music they have is pretty crap.

ArenaNet tried to reduce what they were going to pay Jeremy Soule, so he walked. They tried to say it was due to accusations against him, but that's just them covering up for being cheap.

They've been going in that direction for a while, unfortunately. Redigit is a Touhou fan and specifically designed the Empress of Light and stuff around that time as bullet-hell tributes to it.

honestly, the only problem with the “final” updates is that they keep trying to definitively say they’re final. It’s very clear that Red has a George Lucas-tier inability to leave his finished product alone, and if these things were just acknowledged as the endless fiddling they were it wouldn’t be half as annoying.

With that said, personally I’d say we’re finally at the point where summoner feels baseline complete. A dozen and a half whips is enough to make them feel included in all steps of progression, and a lot of the new additions have status effects and other small things that whips haven’t had much of (because until this update, whips didn’t even have a two-digit count). They don’t have as much choice as other classes, but considering they have to have two seperate weapon classes at once (the summon and the whip), it’s enough to work with.

I'm just trying to figure out if they actually made zero-to-moonlord possible in the Skyblock seed. Also curious about the zenith Skyblock, but I'll save that for when I'm truly bored.

He's doing that because:

  1. It's still making tons of money in sales
  2. He's scared that a sequel won't innovate enough or be high enough in quality and would hurt his reputation.
  3. His main artist, Tiy, left for to go work on Chucklefishs disastrous knockoff, Starbound. Apparently they did not part on great terms.
  4. Last time he tried for a sequel (Terraria: Otherworlds), it was a disaster that he wasted a ton of time and money on before scrapping.
He claims Otherworlds was supposed to be just a spinoff, but that's just him trying to save face. It was pretty clear that Tiy being gone fucked with the art style and made it ugly. And whatever gameplay changes they were trying were actively unfunny.

At least he had the sense to mercy-kill it instead of releasing and didn't grift on Kickstarter for it.

I think the portraits being the way they are makes a little more sense when you consider Relogic's website team portraits.

Not a defense of them, I don't like them. I think the problem is that their very existence takes away from the wonder behind the NPC's, its like those "Minecraft in real life" pictures, it just doesn't have the same feel, I guess. Its too "soft".

Some of them, like the Arms Dealer, don't even match their actual sprite, and then you have the Angler who has zero malice on his face and if I know one thing about that little goblin it's that he finds joy in watching people actively suffer. None of them look like how ANYONE thought they WOULD look.

There's no more personality in their appearance for me, instead one plopped down for me by the developers. Everyone had their own thought on what the NPC's looked like in a more detailed setting, that's why there's so much fan art (good fan art at that) of the characters to being with.

Is it supposed to make me care about them more? It's hard to care about characters who actively tax and berate me despite me provide free shelter for them, and who'll likely get insta-gibbed when the next Blood Moon hits or I summon the Destroyer. I'm not playing Stardew where I actually HAVE to give a crap about them or think of them as real people.

It reminds a lot of the lore that they decided to shove into Terraria, it's nonsense and does nothing but take away and established pointless boundaries that never needed to be there. Except the lore was pretty easily ignorable, these are just in your face now, permanently! Less is more and all that.

Honestly I think the updates pretty good besides this and replacing some boss music, just utterly dropped the ball. Gee man, if you had to be derivate, why not just go back to your roots and do realistic portrait sprites like Final Fantasy did?

Which, that's another thing, if we're not being realistic with the NPC faces, why are we doing that with the pets?
