Fair point, but it didn't...
feel like it was shortened? The dex as in 'the database of little entries' was shorter, but that didn't mean the total number of pokemon was. Especially as a lot of those out-of-dex pokemon were obtainable in game.
Not to mention that the dex points out areas with a lot of uncaught Pokemon, which meant I spent less time ass-deep in the dex entries going 'okay, does this thing have one evolution or two? Do I need to grab something else from this area?' I've already mentioned I
vastly prefer the Link code system to the GTS (though I can understand people prefer the gts' set-and-forget nature) so maybe that was a factor too.
As for the update, it still let me complete the dex relatively easily in the first set before I even have to look at the others. Iunno. So take it as a combination of streamlined features I prefer, the difference between 'full dex' and 'the dex we have entries for' not feeling like a significant difference, and general compartmentalizing.
Edit:
General statistics continue to show that Temtem is already losing relevance.
One example: The difference in chat speed between Temtem, an mmorpg not even a fortnight old, and Dragalia Lost's Reddit Discord, a year-old nintendo gacha game you probably haven't heard of:

Not to mention Dragalia has wayyyyy more chats than Temtem does. So the game's losing to a friggin'
gacha.
Another example: It seems like the American sunday afternoon is peak weekly temtem. Here's this week and last week's peak:

The game's lost just over 30% of it's players peak-to-peak - and it's not like it's facing some hot new competition.
