I just got a notification from Google on a domain I run.

It's email, not fucking discord. No we don't need fucking emoji reacts on everything. It's bad enough when iOS users reply to my texts with an emoji.

Just fuck off with that shit.

Fucking hell, I've already planned on setting up self hosted e-mail (Yes, I am aware it is a Sysiphean task) over the holidays to free myself from g-mail, now I see I couldn't have picked a better timing. I may as well switch from Thunderbird to Mull, or just reading my mail from Emacs, it is genuinely fucking comfy to do more an more stuff in there lol.

Gaming PC Cases have always been on the side of too flashy, but two recent trends with them have really annoyed me:

The first is the trend of having glass side panels, which have also include glass front panels and even top glass:

Do people REALLY want to show off their literal "EVERY PART HAS RGB LIGHTS" to people? And the glass on the front and top looks like it's there to break to force people to buy new computers earlier.

Another recent trend is the addition of LCD screens on cases, which reminds me of the growing trend of excess screens in cars:

Outside of a keyboard that lights up your keys, I find LEDs to be tacky and gaudy. It’s a trend that needs to die off just for how annoying it is.

Fucking youtube being filled with AI narrated slop, I can't find stuff I want reliably anymore. Just ban 3rd world shitholes already.

To that end, bring back the 5.25" drive-bays!

I hate that GIMP devs decided to squeeze by default all the tools into groups only now that screens are large enough to comfortably fit them all at once. It just makes selecting stuff slower.

Luckily they didn't GNOME it out and left an option to the user to disable the tool grouping.

Classic look:

Nu look:

Bonus, it also gets better if you enable classic icons, because colorful icons are easier to tell apart:

You have to disable tool groups in preferences if you want it back the old way. They did it to copy Adobe because they've used tool groups for a long time now.

I hate that the new GIMP has changed how the 'Align and Distribute' tool works. It was more usable before the upgrade. Now you have to select the layer you want to work on in the lay tree instead of with the tool and the relative alignment doesn't have an offset. I used to use the offset a lot because it does not do the proportions right without manually setting it when you want to distribute the position of layers automatically. It makes me want to use Inkscape instead, because I can crop and zoom in Inkscape and the proportion and distribute tool works correctly. The only thing missing from Inkscape is filters. The changes really show that the GIMP developers don't eat their own dog food enough to understand where their project has short comings and instead invest way too much time trying to compensate for their imposture syndrome because they are not being Adobe or Corel.

I don't even know where to post this but I miss when reviews felt at all trustworthy. I have no idea how to find anything of value. if I want to buy a water purifier where do I look? do I just go to amazon and sort by rating for water purifier? it's either that or googling "water purifier best reddit" and reading random replies but I swear to fucking god the quality of Google is so fucking bad now that it's legitimately better to just go to gemini and type "give me a comparison of water purifiers" but then I'm talking to a fucking computer with ZERO anecdotal experience. What I want to see is a review from a guy who is fucking obsessed about water quality and belongs to some religious cult about water with a degree in microbiology minored in hydrowhateverthefuck at Georgia Tech who is named Moses and also enjoys water painting rivers and oceans in his spare time. But where would he post? Probably as u/Stinky_Bracelet2910 on reddit.

it's not just a low trust society it is a zero trust society. I have no faith in anything. I know everything I buy is Chinese shit. Every brand name I recognize is probably a victim of corporate identity theft with an Indian CEO who has already hollowed it from the inside out.

edit: btw I am vaguely aware most reviews are on TikTok now and that's where people go t find water filters. mom searches "water filter" on TikTok and sees @sallymae2910's sponsored review and that's what sell sthe unit.
DuroFlow is a good water filter. Then just buy any generic candle stick style tank. Buy a reverse osmosis system if you can have it permanently installed. (haven't researched best rev osmo)

GIMP 3.0+ is ass. 2 and earlier is much better.
In 3.0 they did fix the colour anti-aliasing. In the old releases it would make white look like cyan and yellow instead of a gradient from white to transparent. I'll see if they fix it in future. I know you are upset about the index colours feature. I've never used it so I don't understand how bad the new version is.

It's like an industry problem. Everyone is too woke and has shit for brains. A lot of the FOSS projects' source code is a mess so they get thrown out and replaced instead of fixed. In the future AI will implement DRM so retarded Indian devs can't even have the good algorithms that the companies own to put into their poojeet code; speech preemption. It's the same cycle with the Internet. First get everybody into it by offering a better product. Then when it becomes the new standard make it shit because everyone is trapped using it with no escape. AI will be the same away. Devs will continue to have shit for brains. Woke is a program to hobbile society as a whole. Instead of writing software the Devs create Moaist movements on twitter and the product suffers. Or use the propietary poojeet written product that doesn't work right either. I can't feel upset about it. It's all too stupid anymore.

The first is the trend of having glass side panels, which have also include glass front panels and even top glass:
I have a really minimal version of that. I can cope with a glass side panel. It's actually pretty solid. Every side glass? Blow me. And I have exactly one RGBshit component and that's a pretty mild video card. It at least lets me know whether the system is sleeping or not.

I bought a digital electric timer years ago. I recently needed it for something and it still worked perfect. When I first found it the battery had died and the display was clear. I plug it in and programmed it and it must have recharged the battery because when I moved outlets it kept the time and settings. Now-a-days, the same product would have Bluetooth and an "app" to go with it so you don't have to program it on the device. In 10 years or less the Bluetooth version would be unusable because the app would have become discontinued and you'd have to buy a new one or go without. In the future with these trends continuing people will continue to have their quality of life diminish as modern luxuries are put behind hidden paywalls and discontinued Bluetooth apps. Why buy anything if you are not allowed to keep it because it was born to be trash from the start? Most people will avoid it and go without.

Honestly if I could get a PC case that looks like something from the 90s or the early 2000s, I would have gotten it.

I went out of my way to look for a PC case that did not have any transparent sides at all.

I still use a beige Antec full tower for my gaming PC. Every free spot is filled with fans, it cools fine.

Interestingly, Silverstone is doing retro styled stuff now.
