Recovered DBZA addict here.

Episodes 1-9 (before Nappa on Earth) are painfully unfunny. Late Cell Saga episodes have cringe moments spoiling too much fun, like the time Krillin panicked about being racist against Sayians. Or the gay marriage shit at the end of one episode. When I think Dragon Ball Z, I think gay sex between a fatass and a cat or Yajirobe squirting milk from senzu bean diet.

TFS pulled the plug on Buu Saga because IMO they ran out of jokes. Check out how forced the humor can be in the last 3 episodes or so.
I know that one of the things about the Cell Saga is that they became more of a comedic bend on a straight fan dub of an anime, but it seems the humor got worse than I thought.
I miss Hellsing
It seems a lot of people do.

FF7MA finished yesterday, and honestly it was pretty disappointing. I thought the rest of the series had some good jokes and was overally pretty okay, but this final bit was just boring. I kept checking to see how much longer until the end, and that's never a good sign. It felt like 90% filler, 10% actually ending the plot, and none of the jokes landed. Doesn't help that it took them an entire year to put this out.
Wow, I thought ep 1 of FF7MA was garbage and the beginning of the end for TFS. It was the start of TFS trying to throw in their original failhumor and I think I might have chuckled at a single gag in the first two episodes.

How shit did it have to be to be a letdown from the earlier parts?

There were no laughs, none. From memory there was:
A pot joke
A bahamut joke
A Cloud gets belittled joke
Ultima weapon runs away "joke"
A Red XIII wants to fuck joke
A Vincent is weird joke

I only regret that I have but one horrifying rating to give this post.

Is this really what TFS thinks constitutes humor? I ask myself before immediately remembering the finale of Hellsing Ultimate Abridged.

I recall watching the first season, stopped at the start of the second season when it was 10 minutes of incoherent screaming. I do remember they made Tifa absolutely insufferable vulgar "strong independent woman".

I never got to the ending of Hellsing Abridged. I stopped watching after the episode where they had "God" show up and act like the ineffective killjoy every liberal atheist thinks He is, and then jerked off the Hamilton musical until the screen was filled with cum.

It keeps jacking off Hamilton. The credits are set to their Hamilton parody and Alucard defeats Schrodinger's paradox by giving all of the souls inside himself life counseling to let go of their repressed homosexuality.

I think I repressed the rest of it, because that's literally all I remember. It was either that shitty or that boring to me. Or both.

So I got big into Dragonball this year and I gave DBZA a shot on the back of rewatching Yugioh abridged and years of hearing people say it's the best thing since sliced bread.

And i'm honestly glad for this thread because now i know i'm not the only one who thinks things go down hill after Frieza.

The first thirty episodes are good shit I don't even mind the early sayian saga episodes because of the early youtube charm and also I know he's over referenced but i really do like abridged nappa. And Namek is fantastic especially once the ginyu force arrives.

And then it just goes down hill. The whole transformation into a fan retelling of DBZ is really noticable from that point onwards and that's not what I watch an abridged series for. Like I love Yugioh Abridged but if it had suddenly turned into a serious retelling once Marik shows up my enjoyment would have gone out the window and that's what happened here.

Post Frieza my enjoyment of DBZA just came down to very specific moments like King Cold haggling with Trunks or Nail and Kami being in Piccolo's head or Gero not knowing what Namek is. Whereas within the first thirty episodes I can pick out specific episodes that have plenty of good things in them, those episodes are ones i'll sit down and watch fully. Later episodes however i'll just flick through for moments i like and be done with it.

I also gotta say that I really find the whole "Abridged is the best verision of DBZ" sentiment really annoying. Like as somebody who is relatively new I much preferred the unabridged version as the method of experiencing the story of DBZ

I'm not sure when the fan retelling era of DBZA started, but I just get from this thread and from episode 60 that Perfect Cell is when it was cemented.

Fair enough. I just remember some liking Kai because it gets rid of all the filler. Or most of it.

I wonder if the Drifters manga got enough content for a season 2 of the anime, I feel like that was underrated
From what I recall of their Hellsing stream, they said they won't do Drifters because I think either Takahat or Kaiser didn't like it. As for season 2, from what I read of the manga there has been some progress in terms of story (hell they introduced Vlad in one of the chapters), but it's not very huge story progress. An with how much of a lazy asshole Hirano is, I amazed he hasn't dropped the manga like he nearly did Hellsing.

They jerked off Hamilton, then turns out Walter was super gay for Alucard and that's why he joined the Nazis, they never explained why Major was a cyborg, the whole thing with souls is by far the cringiest since not only did it have the whole repressed homosexuality it also went "Ya know, hating Twilight was dumb and people who hated it were also dumb." like fuckin' wow....

I think the cell games' Goku/Cell fight was the point of no return when TFS officially ran out of ideas and Kaiserneko put his personal gay fucking shit for filler, like the homo undertones between Goku and Cell.

During Gohan's fight I asked myself "Where's the funny?"

Which was rich since the first joke of the series was Alucard killing Edward and Bella. Since this came after that twat Lindsay Ellis wagged her finger and said "Criticising Twilight is sexist because it's demographic is teen girls", I'm convinced she was the reason for that.

I hear they're embarrassed about Rip Van Winkle's characterisation too, which is funny to me. I guess they had more balls back then.

Oh god I just had a thought that if they had abridged the otherworld tournament they probably would have made Goku and Pikkon homosexual life partners

Yes Takahata actually apologized for the Rip joke on his tumbrl page and then later on the stream. Where they also apologized for the "dark stuff" they had in Episode 2 aka Jan spouting a bunch of rape jokes.
