I will definitely have to rewatch the OG Broly movie again after 15+ years. The way you put it, the plot and the writing sound now slightly less retarded than I remember, but it's still a narrative mess. As dumb as it was I can't be too mad at it for having Pantera.Nope. That's the whole "repeat sth until you actually believe it to be true" being in effect.
The movie does have a really shitty way of presenting the flashback, the first half of which is the one where baby Goku is crying loudly and the 2 dudes are shittalking baby Broly for being scared, and this is accompanied with Broly visibly seething at Goku in the present for some reason. He looks like he's out for Goku and even attacks him at night too.
Then they show the second half a bit later baby stab and all then it's like, why the fuck was Broly angry at Goku when it's actually the suppresed power surging via a memory trigger and Broly trying to break free from Paragus' retardation headband? The moment he transforms and starts acting like a person he no longer gives a particular shit about Goku, until he gets killed by him. Then it ends on cryingbaby.jpg as he blows up lol.
It's a pretty clear joke to make at the expense of Broly. Y'know, like the Goku is a bad parent stuff. But that's all it is, a joke, it's not what actually happens, and people either forgot or never knew that to begin with. Again, ty TFS. Loudest voice gets parroted.
Broly got Funi dubbed around '06, maybe a bit earlier I think, which is why I said it, it's a window of time I'm not quite sure of actually. Sans dates, I remember it was like a period when Funi dubbed vanilla DB and the movies were getting dubbed, and people were making and uploading AMVs and shit. The seething at Broly coincided with people who wanted to sperg about DB being great(muh characturs/creative genius/powerlvls dumb, same arguments back then too) being overshadowed by ppl liking and talking about Z movies, GT and shit. I assume all that would've happened around the time it got dubbed.
I don't know how you internalised 'people believing their own bs' = 'conspiracy to ruin broccoli".
The Goku being a bad father meme is actually interesting. While him giving Cell a Senzu was an absolute WTF moment, I think Goku did for most part a solid job for never having a proper father figure himself.Y'know, like the Goku is a bad parent stuff.
Edit:
As I said more or less somewhere else, I don't have any animosities towards Team For Star nor do I feel any schadenfreude, but the moment they took what was essentially Dragon Ball shitposting too seriously was pretty much the beginning of the end.I still laugh whenever I hear Lani's Vegeta voice. It makes me smile.
Aside from the ones listed in the OP, TFS dropped other excuses for not doing Buu. The characters are too different, story too dark, etc. The problem isn't the Buu Saga itself because so much is ripe for parody: the way it treats deaths even more arbitrarily than at any other point in the series, how Goku acts so casual about Buu wiping out the human race after Babidi dies, because it's all part of a grand master plan and who cares because Dragon Balls. The Namekians deus ex machina an upgrade to make the grand finale wishes work perfect. The Buu Saga offers plenty to work with.
The problem is that after their Frieza Saga, TFS stopped doing a quick and dirty 'abridged' parody and wanted to make their own dub. They got too preoccupied preserving fights instead of picking on them (the 17/Piccolo/Hellzone Grenade is a recurring puzzle piece throughout their videos, podcasts and LPs.) It was inevitable Toei would threaten them. And yes, Kaiser is a weeaboo sadbrains.
That said, there are too many good memories to condemn TFS for their latter day sins.
