There are some good community maps available right now. A new tour or two would breathe life into the gamemode. Just hoping Valve doesn't do the bare minimum and actually makes new drops. (New aussies, strangifiers, etc.)
For New Aussies I want a golden Objector so I can have a golden frame for my troonjack or George Floyd fanart.

If they keep the Tour of Duty ticket system (£0.79 per game) then this will print money for valve all over again. Hopefully the degenerate MVM gamblers will bankroll the long awaited Heavy Update.

A new MVM update is going to be like kicking a pile of decade old junk just to find a wasps' nest there. If you know you know, MVM players, specifically the tour of duty players (The paid version of MVM with loot), are some of the most downright detestable troglodytes in any gaming community let alone TF2. The years of complete neglect of official MVM, piled on top of TF2's general abandonment has made it a breeding ground for mental illness. If you're not a complete psychopath (or just incredibly stubborn like me), the jihad levels of back-seating, holding lobbies hostage, cheating/anti-cheating wars, group vote-kicking abuse, map exploits/game breaking glitches, cliche-y group policing, and off-site harassment is a massive filter and most people never complete a tour. Until recently (relatively considering this game came out in 07), people could join spectators in lobby and have kick immunity with names like "idle for loot", forcing you to 5-mann or requeue. The 1 janitor (bless that fucking guy's heart) that actually fixes this game pushed through a lot of fixes but the experience is still a dumpster, just not on fire and more so smoldering.
I say this as someone with 400 tours in 2 cities, the easiest way to set off any of these spergs is to have no clue what you are doing, it will send them in a fit that you don't know how to play this decade old gamemode to their liking. I can't think of anything funnier than these discount bossmanjack gambling addicts having new content in their slot machine only to be flooded with noobs ruining their loot per hour metrics. Most of them already queue in groups from years of catty in-fighting, but for those don't or can't fill a full lobby I eagerly await a new era of salt.

Also is there a thread on MVM players? It'd be a shame if none of that was documented, I might have to if not.

I love MvM - it's always filled a niche that I can't really get from other horde defense games - but there are two things I'm worried about.
  1. Mission submissions that use Vscript. For community MvM, I don't really have any problem with Vscript. I've seen and played on many missions that use it, and I've really enjoyed those missions. But Vscript should not be used for vanilla MvM; my concern is that the same creators who make things for the community tours will try to make content that overuses Vscript. Not only would people who don't play community MvM be confused at overly custom bots, but you can already get pretty detailed with bot customization using the standard popfiles. Most of the Valve missions still hold up in terms of bot design in my opinion and they don't make use of Vscript.
  2. The map submissions are just gonna be "Halloween-themed" versions of the already existing MvM maps. I'm especially weary of that Mannhattan one that I cannot fucking stand playing on. There are plenty of community maps that would be way better than that kind of lazy trash.
What new Aussies do you guys want to see?
Personally, I think pistol and shotgun Australiums would be enough. I know a lot of people want variants for a bunch of other weapons but I doubt that any of the special or promo weapons will ever get variants. It would be funny to run around with an Australium mackerel though.

This is some of the most entertaining stuff you can do especially if you do it as pyro or spy or any other class not on their approved meta. I get where they are coming from because it can be frustrating to play with low tours, but their behavior does absolutely nothing to help their cause. I make it a habit of picking engineer nowadays just so I can detonate busters in front of these people when I encounter them.

Valve bad and all that but I love this. I never got into MvM even though I like the idea of going against bots far better than actual players. Maybe now people will actually be interested and want play it that aren't complete jackasses. Hopefully the possible new wave of players will force out the people who ruined MvM which is fine by me.

You VILL join me in my first real time with MvM and we VILL have fun.

The blog post specifically stated that they are not looking for Halloween themed maps, presumably meaning that this update will be separate from Scream Fortress. One would hope that this means that the guy in charge of accepting maps will reject lazy halloween makeovers. It would be cool to see an original halloween themed tour, I think. It would be extra cool if they could figure out some way of working in bosses. Imagine teaming up with the bots to fight Merasmus, maybe having some control over where they're coming out of to more effectively target him.

Too be honest, I'd be happy if we got no Scream Fortress this year. Scream Fortress has gone from a fun tradition to a complete waste of resources. They really should have kept it to just one map per year. There is enough Halloween content in TF2 to last over a decade.

New Halloween spells, or re-releasing old ones, are about the only thing that would interest me.

Frankly I don't give a shit about this MvM update thing. I don't play MvM. Terrible gamemode. I highly doubt they're going to add new reward items like new botkillers or anything either. They're just gonna pull some mvm troonslop off the Workshop.

I'm cautiously optimistic. MvM is a pretty sizable source of income for the TF2 team. If they don't put items worth farming for in the drop pool, no one is going to play the new maps.

My concern is the second to last paragraph where it opens with "Though some of them COULD be". Emporiumniggers and their ilk are known to make things which take the least amount of effort and have the most appeal. Halloween maps, for better or for worse, tend to fall under that category. So my concern would be the submissions being flooded with an overabundance of the Halloween themed shit, making it so that at least some of the maps picked are bad.

But hey, positivity is everything, and I'm really hoping this doesn't happen.

I feel like this has happened in at least one of the community tours I've played, but I can't remember when or what tour it was from. Regardless, if this was something that was restricted to just Scream Fortress, I think this would be a lot of fun and I'd absolutely play it.

Yeah, you're definitely not alone in that sentiment. I haven't enjoyed SF for so long and it really sucks to see it reduced to a contract grinding update.

While it will be nice for MVM to finally get some content after so long I imagine Valve just noticed MVM ticket sales were low and just want to get people back into the gambling. I want to have hope but my expectations are they will just grab four to six MVM maps off the front page of the workshop (made by the same people) and maybe include a hat crate along side it. I wonder if this means no summer crate or maps (not that I want them anyways). I hope this replaces scream fortress I'm tired of the Halloween slop.

I'd be willing to bet they'll likely pull a list of the most commonly used weapons and create aus versions of them. That's how lazy shit has gotten in the last few years.

But I never really understood why they didn't just release a new maps and some aussies every year. But then again, we know how mismanaged tf2 has been the last decade.

The blog post sucks massive cock and reeks of shitty millennial writing, I got immediately exhausted reading it and skimmed through the rest of it (I miss the quality quippy TF2 writing of old).
Unironically this. The quality of writing between the older voice lines compared to the newer voice lines is insane. The new lines turned the mercs into 4th wall breaking, 'well that just happened' caricatures. I hate m*llennial writing so much.

Soyshit cuckface
Valve hiring Jay Pinkerton has been a disaster to Valve's writing quality. Patient zero of this rot, just look up when he started working for Valve, on which projects, and how they compare to those written before his involvement.

Valve behaves like a baby with their online games. Look at CS2 now - it has been mismanaged to hell after the change from CSGO to CS2 because one thing went wrong and Valve got a booboo. It's still so retarded that they have 2/3 cashcows that are dying just because Valve behaves like Lowtax and leaves their children for milk and cigs.

Shit sux.
