"Petition means fuck all and is (probably) a way for bad actors to collect your personal information." should be mandatory lecture in every school.
Seriously, what are these fuckers going to do once the petition is sent? Valve is going to do fuck all again.
"But guys, it will totally work this time! Me swear on me mum!" Shut the fuck up you gargantuan retard. Last time didn't work, why should it this time and the next? It's as if it's to renew your bread ticket and not to actually do anything worth a damn.

Even if a boycott was able to successfully halt all TF2 revenue Valve would do nothing. TF2 is probably the least profitable and least interesting of Valve's still-running projects. The reward from time spent on the game pales in comparison to all other projects. If they could sit down and spend a few months developing an anti-cheat that wouldn't just be circumvented in a couple weeks then they'd do it. This "protest" is not reasonable at all and isn't going to hurt Valve a smidge anyway. I haven't seen any conversation that has come even close to convincing me that any of this will have any positive result. The conversation is shallow and had run it's course years ago, what else can be said?

The best thing Valve could do is just drop support full out for the game. No more updates means the market would crash and no more valve servers means no more casual bots. Let the game go on as a legacy game with only community servers. If these dipshits could actually hold on not buying tf2 shit for this new update then I could see it working out that way. Sadly I know valve will drop something so tiny and pathetic to the game that will make waves in the touch starved tf2 world, just like that stupid seal map from a year or 2 ago.

That is one thing they cannot do, since this would destroy faith in Valve steam markets and cause crash of their actual cash cows like CS2 and Dota. TF2 is a kept on life support for this exact reason.

TF2 is not a running project. It's a zombified jenga piece that holds together their empire.

Which is why they should do it lol, man just watching that garbage fire would be amazing. (I'm just being optimistic here)

It's not a company ran by retards. It's not happening.
correction on one thing, it IS a company ran by retards, don't forget about the old guard being replaced + the work ethic in there, ends up with nobody that has any incentive to do the super duper scary treadmill work that is mantaining one of their cash cows, even if it's dying/dead.

I looked all this up for another tread but I feel like posting it again with some additions:

I don’t want Jay Pinkerton anywhere near TF2 ever again. Under his influence the entire cast has been Flanderized into retarded goofballs, the soldier being the absolute worst example by far - so good friggin riddance.

Did he do stuff with the comics? When was he involved?

Back in 2012, Half-Life 2's art director stated why he left Valve and was vocal about it
"I went to Valve, they were a small company. They've grown now, they're much bigger, and I'm interested in a certain level of creative risk taking and a certain energy that can be compared to jazz, jamming or rock n' roll, where it's small, it's intense and it's about making revolutions in the media."
And it's dead now.

Looks like Viktor went on to work on Dishonored, was a consultant on Prey and Doom 2016. Nice.

Worst part is that their hero shooter will 100% end up like artifact. Nobody asked for it and nobody will play it. Considering how TF2 unironically is a pretty solid source of income for valve, it's kinda baffling that they would rather start from scratch than just keep building onto TF2 and add more monetization methods. Games like OSRS are doing better than ever by just nurturing their existing community, consistently releasing new content, and working with content creators. It's every company's wet dream to have a community that is so persistent and stubborn that they would rather continue playing a 17-year old game (which is more of a lootbox simulator at this point) than move on to any of the thousands of games that are consistently updated by billion-dollar companies. But I guess Valve still figured that it was somehow smarter to copy overwatch, a game that has literally gone through an entire rise and fall, than enjoying their existing rabid fanbase.
As much as i love GabeN for pushing innovation and pioneering many of the industry firsts, he is clearly not a man who knows how to run a company. Most companies with valuation of Valve has apx. ~10.000 employees, whereas valve has less than 400. So while they focus on innovative new products (with a very generous timeline, by the way), they leave all their old products to rust. While it makes sense to not spend too much time on the products that fail, like the steam controller, steam console, steam link, Artifact, or any of their other hundreds of failed ventures, they somehow also just leave all their successful ventures to collect dust (Half Life, TF2, CS2, VR).
I'm sure that GabeN is enjoying his billions on a yacht somewhere in the carribean (or his submarine), but he could genuinely have had a gaming dynasty the size of EA, Ubisoft, or Blizzard if he actually just put some more money into the company.
OSRS and its nu-RS brother are the sole moneymakers for the company responsible for maintaining them. Valve is in another league. Here's a video that's informative and related to the topic (ignore the 2010s YouTube rantsona):

While hiring seniors did pay off for Valve before, consider the state of the gaming industry in general today, especially in the AAA sphere, and think of the creative potential the seniors of Current Year have vs. the contemporaries of Half-Life 1 and 2. Personally, I think it's also due to people at the company being jaded regarding games and so everybody chooses to do the default 9 to 5, focusing on their personal life and pet projects.

Did he do stuff with the comics? When was he involved?
He was officially the lead writer of every issue of the ‘’’’current’’’’ comic series, unofficially I suspect he was involved in Expiration Date and a few other projects as his signature style is rubbed all over those too, but I could be wrong. The portal 2 writing team in general jumping over to TF2 once that got wrapped up did permanent damage to the games tone with or without Jay’s help.

Thanks to him, The Sniper not Australian and is actually from Atlantis (basically), the demoman hangs out with the eyelander which is now a snarky roommate, Pauline has been grafted onto the franchise like she’s a main character as if anyone ever wanted her, and the Scout is now incredibly retarded and literally does not know anything.

The Soldier has been the worst hit character by far however. Consider how the soldier was portrayed in the WAR comic vs the stuff that came afterwards. One portrayed him as a paranoid loner hiding out in a random apartment, the others as a comic relief grinning dumbass who now canonically lives/lived with a real wizard and is constantly stripping naked and covering himself in honey.

I am actually thankful that his voice actor died so he can’t be marched down to Valve HQ to fuck over his character any further by having him say trans rights ingame or something like thst. So yes, Fuck Jay, and the rest of their 2014-era Reddit style writing team.

How dare people enjoy funny comics for a barbie dressup game for grownups?

TF2 lore is very serious business apparently. I haven't played in a while, so how much do the comics bleed into the game if at all? There have been numerous times where people are shocked to discover they even exist when discussed. The old fans who wanted the "serious" game tone of the original TFC had that dream die when Team Fortress 2: Brotherhood of Arms was canceled in the 2000s. When the first trailers for the final build started coming out in 2006 a good chunk of the playerbase was pissed at the cartoony graphics.

Really agree with this, the personality of the characters in the early Meet the Team videos and the voice lines in game have completely different personalities to those in the comics. Writing like this started with the early TF2 comics with characters like Saxton Hale and Merasmus but it really exploded after Portal 2 was praised for it's writing. It's a real shame. Half-Life: Alyx's Russel was very obviously a attempt to create another Wheatley, so this kind of writing is still favoured at Valve (even if HL:A is years old now).
