I got recommended this initially interesting video about ( what I thought was going to be) the point system in tf2, but it ended up being a preachy political piece, 50% of which isn't even about tf2, to be honest if score / KD ratio seriously stresses people out that much, they should just unbind the tab key or remove it from their hud, better yet do something that doesn't give them that shit ass mindset over a video game in the first place.

I don't really care for most of the points he brings up in the video, but it is completely and utterly based that he shits on the developers, too bad he doesn't bring up really anything other than how they abandon their games by leaving it up to a single developers to do things. Like no mention of the video of one of the developers putting his girlfriends feet in his mouth in a Discord call or flagrant copyright abuse they do to cover up certain dramas that involve the friends of the developers or how they brought on a kid to their moderation team, there's just too much shit to mention.

I also think it's funny how he brings up how there's no competitive scene other than a single 2v2 tournament. Since there was so much shit flinging from the competitive scene of their Counter Strike clone that they probably decided to not make a scene. Either that or because they ousted the guy who ran most of the tournament in favor of their friends and most of them quit.

Oh man, I'm feeling a sense of nostalgia for my young zoomer days hearing those TF2 ROBLOX ripoffs, and I find this video absolute hilarious learning that TC2 is taking Uncletopia's footsteps.

So give me puzzle pieces and power scouters, but I used to play a lot of ROBLOX Fortress (TC2 predecessor done by the same developer), the game was IMMENSELY janky to play due to ROBLOX physics being awful at the time, But it provided one of the comfiest casual experiences I ever witnessed.

Since everything was so obtuse and most people who played it were around the age 12-16, you basically got a game where nobody took it seriously. People sometimes just tried to do funny shenanigans and yell memes in chat. It was pure unadultered autism, but it was MY pure unadultered autism dangit!

I don't even believe that ROBLOX Fortress was any better than the actual TF2, not even close, but again, it was pretty fun to just play TF2 on ROBLOX with your ROBLOX friends and other people around that probably liked the same things as you did (like ROBLOX).

I couldn't find a good example to demonstrate my point, but I found this old video that shows all the jankiness and people having too much fun shooting other lego people.

Seeing how this would eventually become TC2, and how it eventually would become a sweat tryhard fiesta, it just makes me perplexed.
... But then again, it has been a long time since I heard of ANY multiplayer game catering to casual fun (with the exception of gmod servers... maybe), I think I just have to accept that I live in 2025 nowadays, and no matter what game, people just want to be the absolute best and decimate other players.

1. I'm nearing 30 and I want to force myself focus on more constructive hobbies

2. The "based" servers and multiplayer games I'm on are slowly becoming more and more degenerate and slowly it's becoming less and less worthwhile to deal with it so I can say "Nigger." I just want to go back to my 2009 MW2 days without seeing loli avatars, "cunny", or degenerate anime shit in the chat 50% of the time.

I'll still play the game because it's fun on and off but I don't want these fucking freaks to rub off on me.

You already know it, the 4chan party v/an server which added an annoying text pop-up to tell you occasionally to re enable sprays and decals so you can look at their gross shit but unfortunately they have some of the best custom maps. Kogasatopia is a less annoying version but less custom maps.

Castaway is alright but mostly stock and a limited playerbase. Casual is alright too. I'll sell the last of my inventory so I'm not holding the bag when game's economy collapses

K/D is how you traditionally know you're good at video games.

TF2 is a fairly easy game with a low skill floor. What people miss is that you don't have to be good at FPS's to be good at TF2 (it helps, of course), you have to be good at playing your class and doing your class's job, and the score will reflect this much more than K/D.

Complaining about score and K/D is a massive cope for being bad at TF2, they're uncoupled for a reason, because just getting straight kills isn't the point, the objective is, and the game will reward you for PLAYING THE FUCKING OBJECTIVE. I've had rounds where I top scored as spy with 0 kills, just because I sat on the cart the entire time, for example.

TF2 rewards competence over skill because it's still built around team based playstyles even after years of updates and shitfting playstyles. You could be that annoying troon who spends hours a day perfecting their spy trickstabbing, trolldier market gardening, or demoknight trimping and still get floored by PabloMinecraft2009@hotmail. A team of competent F2Ps with rudimentary game knowledge could easily stand their own against team of pubstomping ex-compfags if they engage in the most basic form of cooperation and coordination. But most the TF2 playerbase doesn't want to admit this fact.

All you need are weapons and if you really want a hat then you can get some cheap one from market for less than a dollar. Very minimalist and it removes the sunk cost psychological effect.
