A middle school science teacher in Baltimore was fired this week after a video surfaced showing her berating students with insults and racial slurs.

In the video, which has been viewed more than 2 million times since it was posted by a parent on Facebook Wednesday, the teacher is seen dragging a male student by the hood out of a classroom before proceeding to hurl insults at the rest of the class.

“You’re idiots!” the teacher, who is white, is heard shouting at the room full of mostly black middle schoolers at Harlem Park Elementary/Middle School in West Baltimore. “You have the chance to get an education, but you want to be a punk-a** n***** who’s gonna get shot.”

One student can be heard pleading with the teacher to “stop saying that,” as she continues to call the class “stupid” and threatens to give them “zeros for doing nothing.”

By Thursday, officials with the Baltimore City Public School district confirmed that “a middle school science teacher at Harlem Park Elementary/Middle School engaged in verbally abusive behavior and made racially charged comments directed at students,” and that “the teacher involved in the incident is no longer employed by City Schools.”

The school district’s statement went on to state that “at Baltimore City Public Schools, we are committed to creating positive and equitable learning environments in school communities where all members are welcome, supported, and valued. No form of discriminatory behavior of any kind is or will be tolerated.”

I wish it was as easy as this, my HS had a student population in the thousands with an auditorium that only seated just below 1k, it also had one of the highest graduation rates in the city. Basically, students were told it wasn't a prison and if they didn't want to be in class or if they were going to be disruptive to just leave on their own accord. It lead to the kids who had no interest in learning dropping out to later go on and get their GEDs/go into a trade/become drug dealers/w/e. It allowed for a much more productive classroom environment.

There are problem students who genuinely do derail the class if you allow them to, but less and less teachers are in a position to deal with them, about thirty+ years ago, there used to be schools specifically for problem students, they were done anyway with because the student population was primarily black and therefore racist.

A lot of these teachers are naive empaths who want to make a difference in the lives of people who don't want any help, and now the effective strategies to deal with the most disruptive students (including sending them to the principals office, detention or suspension are all being derided as racist) have been taken out of their toolbox. Essentially everyone suffers, the bad students don't get put into an environment that instills structure into them, the kids that want to learn don't, the teachers tear their hair out and cry themselves to sleep at night as they're subjected to the reality of being an abject failure with all their good intentions going down the drain.

I feel for the teacher cos this shit is very true, to the point where sanctions for behaviour are treated like a failure on the teachers part because, ready for this, "The behaviour could have been redirected or rechanneled into something positive, by punishing a student acting out you are punishing them for you not being to keep them engaged and learning".
Some real hippy shit in schools today, its no surprise the little fuckers are growing up to be so disrespectful and disruptive that it drives a teacher to shoot out nigga bombs out of sheer desperation.
 
While I completely understand her frustration, stooping to the level of her students did nothing other than make things worse.

My high school had kids watching porn on their phones while the biology teacher was trying to do his job. Fights broke out frequently and there was at least one instance of students fucking in one of those disgusting bathrooms.

Couldn't help but laugh a little when I found the unofficial page for that hellhole had the Confederate Flag as its profile pic. :powerlevel:

I guess that's what everybody here understands. She didn't just wake up, her head popped up from the pillow and she went "Guess I'll call someone Nigga today".

In an evnironment like that, I assume frustration is commonplace amongst teachers. You'll have to deal with shitheads that undermine your authority (what little you even have), do whatever the fuck they want and give you lip - while you (as their teacher) try your best to help them see how badly this will influence their later life.
Yeah, at some point, any teacher that gives even the remotest of fucks about his students will crack...

However using the word Nigger meant pretty much that she admitted defeat. Using that word in 'murrica is a death sentence for your career, especially as a teacher. And rightfully so, if she can't keep her cool enough to not use the word, she's doing it wrong, plain and simple.
No matter how understandable her frustration might be, she's supposed to not chimp out at her class and fling racial slurs (even if they are rather appropriate here).

Teacher did nothing wrong. I've had to deal with googles in school. 90% of them are gangster wannabes who think they're cool with their rap and shitty ebonics. and they know they're a protected class since anything you do/say will be "racist" and you'll be shot down.
this is why the blacks get scared when you call them out. because they're reminded on how inferior they are for not wanting to be educated.

Agreed. Failing the same student 4 times in a row and keeping them back isn't really doing anything, but making sure they eventually drop out anyway. Chances are they won't go to college, and a high-school diploma isn't going to help their ass since they will just try to sling dope anyway. So just pass them along and you won't waste too many resources. My high school passed people with below 1.0 GPAs, and people STILL managed to fail.

I have no sympathy for any human being, nigger or otherwise, that doesn't try to raise their station in life. I can bet that most of the parents that are "outraged" could give less of a fuck about what their kids do.

This happens in my area so much. We have the rednecks that all try to be the same thing (mechanic) and some still drop-out and end up doing whatever, but at least the world needs more mechanics so they can move out. The rednecks usually end up getting in fights, or they get caught with drugs (weed and meth) and get arrested.

All the thug blacks (the males anyway) tried to be the same thing (sports stars/rappers), and you can see why that doesn't work out for most people, they either do something stupid that gets on their record (get caught with weed), or drop out.

The rest? The non redneck whites and the non thug blacks? Well not all of them do well, but most are going separate paths in life and some seem pretty hopeful so *shrug*

TBH not everyone that drops out has it hard, one of my friends dropped out and his life has been steady, but since we are still early in our life I don't know how long that will last...

Edit: A lot of this you guys already might know, but it has to do with the parents. Being mixed I have people on both sides. A cousin of mine who is black has awesome parents, and he is doing well, other cousins that have your typic nigger parents are the same as any thug.

There is a reason why black kids adopted by white parents do better, I don't know WHAT the fuck happened to the previous generation, but it needs to stop.

If I knew I was screwing around in class at that age, being called a nigga would be somewhat deserved (even if I am black.); I'd be annoyed at first, but it would tell tell me I'm acting dumb and need to stop that that behavior if I ever want to fucking get anywhere that isn't drug dealing. I get words hurt and all, but what happened to this teacher is wrong and pathetic (even if she ain't completely in the right, either...).

And yet, I still miss the days when 'nigga' was just something used as slang that didn't cost you your job - I use it all the fucking time.

Being raised by single dumb-ass black women whose interests typically lie in getting some alpha nigga to fuck them, even when they're well into their 30's and should probably be looking to settle down, might be a part of it.

Men and women provide different types of discipline to their children and show love in different ways, teach different lessons.

When you have multiple generations being raised by nothing but their mothers (or, even better, by grandparents who are too tired or unwilling to keep up with some young'un and get on his ass about what he's doing), well...
