>MDE reboot is bad, unfunny, and a let down given the decade of waiting
>Tamers is making unfunny gay slop and seems set on his brony path
Honestly, the only content creator I am excited for now is Running Shine, but they take like 2 years to make a video.
Running Shine is too good for us, I hope he's just too busy accomplishing everything he ever wanted.

Sigh...

I remember an ancient reply by Tamers back in SU times. Someone was talking about gay representation and shit, and Tamers responded "Why does it have to be about gay representation? Can't they just be in love?" - paraphrasing here.
By now it's all about the fact that the ponies are gay. The point of the characters is that they're in a gay relationship and they're gonna have a gay wedding (because they're gay). There is nothing else to these relationships except their dynamics, with so-called toxic yaoi/yuri being especially beloved by the kinds of people attracted to these new videos.
MLP videos are not about the characters themselves, but the relationship dynamics they engage in. The characters cannot exist independently of eachother, and as such utterly fail to be interesting.

Recently watched a video exploring the pitfalls of a certain show, and to paraphrase a point from its critiques; the show's characters are bad and fairly one-note because they're meant not to be actual characters, but playthings used by the fandom. And I think the same could be said of Tamers' current characters. They're flat and one-note, repetitively so. Soarin is gay (and mature), Braeburn is gay (and inexperienced), Apple Bottom is gay (and flirty), Care Package is gay (and domineering). And all of them are the same design-wise, now granted Tamers isn't exactly a whiz with character body-types and styles, but here's where my previous thing about 'humanization' comes in.
The ponies seem to be standing up on two legs more and more, they seem to have more Human conventions- like pants- which make no sense in MLP where everyone is buck-fucking-naked unless of course the concept of (in)decency also comes along.
Rarity wearing panties, the ponies sitting up on two legs- now I don't know jack and shit about the show and how ponies sit and move, but it seems like the 'humanization' of the ponies is- and forgive my conspiracy theory- a deliberate choice to try and lure in more fans, to try and grab more fan artists and patreon money. They're not just gay ponies, they're gay marketable ponies.

I can deal with (and even enjoy) Tamers developing artist motifs. He's not subtle about how much he loves to draw fluffy hair and big, darkly-lined, expressive eyes. But at this point the show really needs to break a lot of this boring phenomena you just described. We need those mundane Sonic Underground moments.

It's been explained by other posters before, how Equestria is too inherently fantastical to really allow this SU-style character building, but considering the comical nature (or it was comical) of Tamers content those rules can be bent for amusing effect. It would be trivial to have Braeburn go to Walgreens (which inexplicably exists in Ponyville), can't find horse-sized condoms or apple-flavored cough drops, and is an asshole to customer service employees because he's dating the Soarin, member of the esteemed Wonderbolts. Mundane places and events are great for adding flavor to characters who are otherwise just aping Hazshit Hotel, or gay because ship.

I think it’s just time to accept that SU and MLP are now their own separate entities and barely comparable at this point.

While I do want to agree, we will still have to accept the 'bleed' from SU into MLP and if Sonic Underground does come back, the 'bleed' of MLP into SU, such as our promised 'return to Sonic Underground' from June.

I mean- with the June special showing cross-dimensional travel is possible, and also the intital SU/MLP crossover showing it too. That and Little Caesars is shown to be in Ponyville, so it wouldn't even be that much of a stretch to have an episode set in the same 'mundane setting'. Soarin and Braeburn want to get married? They do it at the most romantic and fancy of places- at Applebees. The big event wouldn't even be the wedding, it'd probably be fighting in the parking lot against some homophobic people. Twlight and Trixie having lesbian drama again? Marionette could go swimming or some shit in a public water park and she stalks a normal 'healthy' family. She could wonder why she can't have the 'normal' life. Maybe she intervenes when the usual family abuse happens. Bam I've given Marionette more meaningful character than she's gotten in 5 months, she's remorseful, concerned, and wants to help people. It is entirely possible for Tamers to make the ponies have mundane adventures and those adventures could be fun, but for some reason it just doesn't seem to happen.

I've come around to believe that Tamers very intentionally pursues different priorities with SU and MLP.
SU is mundane setups with crude and bizarre moments and jokes mixed in while MLP is more shipping/gay focused.
I hate to say this but I think Tamers has gotten burned out of doing SU for so long and wants to try something different, yet he respects SU enough to the point that he'd rather try new ideas with another property, which is how we arrived here.
Something many people noticed early on in the pony run is how the relationship between Shining Armor and the white horse was just Sonic and Bartleby again until it was dropped and never acknowledged again and I'm convinced its because Tamers changed his mind midway and didn't want MLP to just be SU reskinned.

This feels a lot like asking David Lynch to "just make normal movies" if he was going to pursue some new property. If people know who you are and like your content, there's an obligation to include some of what people enjoyed about your earlier work in addition to newer ideas.

For what its worth, he was able to balance this originally. The first couple pony videos felt way closer to his original style than they went on to become.
Fan reception is something I forgot to mention. Bronies 100% influenced this shift too with viewership numbers and their own original content to a degree that Tamers never had before.

I've certainly gotten a crash course in why people habitually banned bronies from their online spaces ten years ago. Tamers' current fanbase is even more obsessed with shipping and LGBT trash than he is, and they have neither the will nor enormous IQ necessary to understand why his Sonic Underground content is high art. Bronies are a truly horrible bunch, people with pony avatars are always the most bone-headed nitwits you'll find. Watching them brag that they've ruined a good thing warrants a gas chamber.

It doesn't seem like he particularly wants to do anything with the characters, which serves the new fanbase just fine, they love stagnation so long as they get plenty of cookie-cutter yaoi moments and "badass" moments with nu-metal in playing.

Just imagine, Tamers still has ponies call each other retarded faggots sometimes so the very worst of the bronies are getting filtered. This isn't even rock bottom of the fandom!
