The weekly meeting of the Shattered Hand Clan is this way.

All joking aside, if you can wrangle some interesting rules about it, it should be a cool concept to play with. The stump would need some sort of removable attachment system for the blade (or maybe just a sheath) so you can avoid poking things by accident while you're sleeping, but besides the usual issues with having only one hand it's pretty workable.

Although instead of an axe head, I'd suggest a stabby blade with slashing potential, like a long push dagger or a katar. It's generally a lot easier to punch than to chop, and since it doesn't have a handle and it's attached to the forearm, you wouldn't have much leverage for slashing-hacking with in the first place. Depending on how the stump was capped (if the bones in the forearm can still rotate), you could even use it as a knife for more delicate operations. Just make sure you wash your stab-hand thoroughly before you use it to cut food while in camp! You don't want any bits of zombie touching the steak, or the cleric will have to spend a while casting remove disease spells on the party!

Great icebreaker at parties, too!
That's exactly what I was thinking, but that would be reliant more on the setting since I don't know if that would conflict with tech levels or not. Could be an Artificer's gift or something, but my aim is that I don't want to divurge from the rules TOO much or try to homebrew a weapon/weapon set when flavor can suffice by itself.

Just something that can 'slot' in one handed weapons and I'm good, so he isn't stuck with and base level axe for the entire game.

Your insights and encouragement are appreciated!

IMO, just keep it simple. Off the top of my head...

Make it so any non-two-handed weapon you're proficient with can be installed onto the stump over the period of a long rest, but it also makes the weapon unusable by anyone else since it doesn't have an ergonomically-viable handle anymore. The person installing the weapon needs to be proficient in carpenter's, smiths' or tinker's tools, and the additional materials required to install the weapon are worth 5% of the weapon's cost. That way you can even use magical weapons (and the attunement is implied by the time required in the long rest), at a certain cost. Bonus: you're immune to disarming, although if you're captured/immobilized/rendered unconscious someone may remove the weapon and/or its mount with some struggling.

If you want it detachable, discuss with the GM whether you can detach/attach a weapon that was already prepared for use on a stump using an action, or if you need a minute or two to do it like you do with armor.

Badaboom, done.

Don't forget if you buddy up with an artificer or someone with a bunch of ranks in craft you can probably get a crossbow rigged up, too. Flaming chainsaw ammunition not included, though. Be sure to tell everyone you meet to "Lick my ass" like a certain Teutonic bionic knight, as well. Dude was the OG adventurer after all.

Wasn’t Mearls working on a Warlord class/subclass?
He was, but then some cunts on twitter started reeeeing because he "covered for an abusive mysoginist" or some shit. So all of his WIPs went straight to the bin and he was shuffled elsewhere, it is also why Mystic v3 was canned and instead we got the far shittier psionic subclasses which have one of the worst mechanics ever.
Hope they keep note of the shittier parts of Tasha's and don't make a repeat of those (and for the love of god don't put anymore of that ugly ass art)

Tasha’s in general just felt bleh. I like the subclass and class feature stuff, but I didn’t like the oh-so-witty comments from her throughout the book.

The comments were really annoying but whatever. That scribes subschool for wizards was pretty decent though.

I've also came across a game using "mobile suits" similar to Gundam. The book even has blueprints in it to make your own using lego and teaches you the design process of making mecha with lego.
I've heard of that, but assumed it was a tabletop wargame, not a RPG.

I'm always after a good mech game. I've been recommended Mekton (which uses modified Cyberpunk rules iirc), MechWarrior, BESM, Stars Without Number, and Fudge and Fate but I struggle to generate enough interest for any of those games.

Best I found was a simple system called Tiny Frontiers, but it's only good for a one shot or two. There's no character growth but it's got just enough crunch for a game without scaring people off with spreadsheets and a book the size of the titanic. While I got enough interest to get people to roll characters and mechs, I failed to get people around the table.

I played one game of Mekton, I thought it was pretty enjoyable but I think the GM hated it. There were a lot of skills you could pick that he stated "would never come up" which I thought was kind of lame. One of them was brawl, and I figure a cool mech pilot who can beat people up should be something that needs to happen (and probably could in the system). Seems like something I would want to explore a little more though.

I have played a lot of Lancer though and I really like that. When you level up you get licenses for different mechs. Each mech has three tiers, each tiers gives you different parts. After a while you can start mixing them up and building your custom rig. Combat was really fluid, highly recommend it.

Here's an amazing free resource where you can track just about everything: https://compcon.app/#/

Do card games count in this thread? There was one TCG thread that I found but it was dead for over a year and not even a whole page long.

I was out at the store today and found four starter packs for a game called Flesh and Blood. Looked pretty neat. The clerk at the store seemed to be very into it, though he was completely absorbed by how much the cards were worth and how much money he could make off of them, rather than actually playing the game. So anyway I got the four starter decks for about 20 bucks and have been looking through them while I sleeve the decks. The cards are pretty nice and the game itself seems fun. Going to try a game tomorrow with some friends.

Anyone know about it?

Also as an aside: something really irks me about people that "play" TCGs for the purpose of selling rare cards and making money. I was talking to the guy about still playing games with my older Pokemon cards and he was like "whoa dude you shouldn't even touch those!" As if enjoying my hard work of collecting the darn things (I actually caught them all) by playing the actual game was secondary to the value of the cards themselves. It's not like they aren't in sleeves or anything.

I don't know about Flesh and Blood, but I agree with your point about people who obsess about the financial value of their cards. It's nice that people that have an MTG or Pokemon collection lying around can unload their cards and make some money, but the markets surrounding the TCG hobby seem really unhealthy.

If the value of the cards is being driven purely by scarcity and speculation rather than people playing the game and using the cards for their intended purpose, then the market is inviting the worst kind of people into the hobby. They also create incentives for the companies that print the cards to make decisions that harm the game so they can make quick money off of the people that buy cards for the resale value, and these decisions will steadily drive away people that actually wanted to play the game.

I hope you and your friends have a fun time playing that game you discovered.

I did mention that it was a skirmish game.

Tiny is a rule set so you could find a Tiny game to suit your needs. Tiny Dungeon and Tiny Wasteland don't look all that bad. it's nice that a character sheet can fit on a 3x5 note card. I have so many of those for recipes.

I took some time during the site being down to continue rearranging my RPG's and came across one called Wet Grandpa. It's a supposed OSR game that some people have been really happy with so I decided to read it and oh boy....I shouldn't have.

Wet Grandpa was created by someone I could only describe as a ogre. It talks about incest, cannibalism, a wife that whores herself out for meth because her husband beats him, lesbians, details about the sexuality of the adopted children of the "Wet Grandpa" (thankfully he's called that because he's a river zombie with powers over the river around his island), a baby which I'm pretty sure is dead but the "meth mother" still tries to nurse.

Now, this reeked of a tranny writing this before I even looked up the designer and sure enough not only were they trans, they were an ogre who doesn't seem to have transitioned at all, and the scary thing is... he has children.

if this is the quality of the game designers Melsonian Arts Council brings in, stay far far away from them.

I have other pdfs from them and after Wet Grandpa I'm just going to file them and forget they exist. (They also overcharge for their pdfs so another reason why I wont be bothering.)

this is a typo, right?

there's also lancer, you can get some of it for free: https://massif-press.itch.io/

Included with the free PDF of the Lancer Core Book re all the core rules, mechs, and character options - everything you need to learn LANCER and build a character. Not included is the NPC creation, GM section, and setting info - but everything in this version of the core book is otherwise the exact same (art and all) as the main book.

EDIT: @Mr. Manchester beat me to it

I had a player run a cleric with a speed penalty and carry penalty due to a bad back and being obese.

Sure, it slowed the party down, and the player mentioned that his character was huffing and puffing along, but he'd traded the speed and carry penalty into a Wisdom bonus for spellcasting and turning only and it was a lot of fun.

The whole wheelchair thing though, that was just embarrassing.

Was the wheelchair electric, magic or classic?

So I’m looking for a good magical girl tabletop system. This is what I was suggested so far. Are there any more good suggestions Im missing?
