Would be interesting. I could also see FFG trying to buy. But not sure if they have the cash.
Person who wrote that should have read this first.
The acquisition of WotC wasn't all about getting the Pokemon licence (which ended in 2003). If they no longer wanted Wotc, they would have gotten rid of them a decade ago. However there was still money to be made with Magic and Dungeons and Dragons. It's why they kept on investing into various games that were being made with those IP instead of just telling WotC to pay for everything themselves.

Hasbro probably wants to get rid of them because of damaging the people making the games are to the over all product. In the day of social media outrage, it's too easy to blame the parent company for their bullshit. Damaging their stocks and upsetting the stockholders.

I should mention, there's been talks about Hasbro selling off WotC since 2018
Nothing new.

I'm pretty sure Hasbro doesn't give two flying fucks about that, because "woke" gets them good press. Yeah, the design staff are shitting all over the established fanbase and squandering away a lot of D&D's and MtG's goodwill with cringy BS and bad decisions, but the normies watching Critical Role love it. Hasbro is only going to bother doing anything if Wizards stops making them money, and while I can't say much about the MtG side (Magic players always complain about everything) I'm pretty sure they're satisfied with how much Tasha's sold.

for how long tho? that's always something to consider. sure, D&D and magic might be making money now, but for most of the time D&D wasn't that hot a property, even as the most notorious pnp rpg and the lockdown is probably fucking hard with physical magic sales (cardboard crack only works when people want cardboard). when you know your properties are turning to shit but make money at the moment, it's a good point to sell them off while they're hot since you can ask for more money than brands that crashed with no survivors later, you lose some money now but made more in the end.

also doesn't have to mean wotc will keep those properties, nothing prevents them from spinning off magic, dnd or both and get rid of the rest. similar how asmodee is moving everything to specialized companies you can just barter off on their own if you have to, without affecting the rest of it. for example FFG got all their RPGs moved to edge, their sleeves and other stuff to a new company and the star wars minis apparently got a new company as well (haven't really looked into it, just what I heard), relegating them cranking out more marvel and arkham - and I wouldn't be surprised if the latter gets moved at least partially with the rest of the card games to somewhere else.

Those are good arguments, but we would only be able to know for sure one way or another if we had leaks from WotC's earning calls. Externally, it doesn't seem like they're doing too terribly. Yeah, the lockdowns have fucked over the people who played tabletop but WotC has been pouring resources into Magic Arena, and the tendency for more and more D&D campaigns to be run online had been growing steadily for a few years, long before the coof was even a thing. Tasha seems to have sold reasonably well for what was basically Unearthed Arcana 5e Edition, and let's be honest here: a book like that isn't all that expensive to make for a company specialized in publishing books, even more now that so many people are buying digital copies (or digital boosters for MtG).

We'll see how it goes, of course. I don't think WotC is going anywhere, and I don't think Hasbro has any incentive to get rid of them either. I'll be happy to be proven wrong, though. Maybe it will happen in a couple of years, if their push for wokeness and attracting the normies flops.

afaik wotc doesn't sell pdf's tho, it's all on beyond now. maybe that's changed, don't really keep up with 5e.

don't think they will be sold off either, but this year has been crazy enough, and with all the shenanigans of asmodee everythings possible. so who knows really.

Found this on /tg/, the original post claimed it came from one of the Exalted books. Any tabletop kiwis willing to enlighten me on this?

Other guys are dumb and can't read. Book is called Titanomachy (first sentence after the comma), its noted as an antagonist book (thus not Titanomachy the RPG), google Titanomachy RPG and you get Scion Titanomachy which is an antagonist book. Pull it up on the usual places and its confirmed

Scion, not Exalted. Which is also by Onyx Path. And also about demi gods. So the confusion is understandable.

It's sad when a company like UFO Press is better than a more "mainstream" company.

Warnings like this though are becoming more and more common with RPG's. However I find it's always with books that are actually pretty bad and should just worn us about how bad the content is written instead of the content it's self.

Well, currently, the people fussing over consent lists or this trigger-warning bullshit are slowly taking root in the centres of RPG writing, so the books that they churn out have entirely screwed ideas behind them, were playability and fun is second rank (if even that) to being progressive and "inclusive" (whatever the fuck that means, it's not the dictionary definition of the term).

If unchecked, it will spread and sprawl throughout all books. Not looking forward to it, but at least I can always enjoy the gems of the past without the taint of being affiliated with these new clowns ruining fun for everyone.

What do you think the answer or solution to this would be? Just creating or forking a new system similar to how Pathfinder was created? Or some open source system with guidelines?

Luckily more and more games are coming out with SRD's and there's always quick play books so we can just ignore their fluff.

I mean, until they infiltrate the game groups themselves (some are hopelessly pozzed already, unfortunately), all that's going to happen is that we'll be annoyed by the "progressive" bullshit in the rulebooks. As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, they can't force us to do anything. It just gets so tiresome to have to parse out bullshit from stuff you actually want to read in an RPG book.

The persistent appearance of that stuff will influence future hobbyists. That's the problem.

the only people that care about this in the first place are some randoms playing an "organized play" railroad adventure or no pnp at all. anyone else just laughs and does their own shit.

Good luck with that. I'm back with my old gaming group I had back in the 80's and 90's. I doubt a bunch of sixty year old men want a dumb ass Twitter dangerhair to be in our group. They can't even stand today's media let alone the people who make it.

My current gaming group is wonderful. Been playing with them now for close to five years and most of the core used to work at the same shitty job before we all moved on to superior employment. Age range of group has most in their late 20's/early 30's with me at the upper end and another guy in his early 20's at the lower. Every now then someone would bring in a random retard from work that just ended up filtering themselves.

Example One: This girl was a walking red flag complete with danger hair, problem glasses, questionable hygiene, and wouldn't stop talking about how her mom molested her (in detail). We were in the midst of an evil campaign and she made a drow. After fighting a beholder in a dungeon, we were ambushed by orcs while recovering and it was a pretty rough fight. Eventually out of the 15 or so that attacked, 5 were left and opted to surrender. When I stated my intent to execute them (playing a hobgoblin fighter) she started spazzing out and crying (I mean literal tears flowing) about how that was wrong. Laughed her out of the group.

Example 2: Black weeb chick from work gets invited. Actually seemed pretty cool at first, she was just chilling in the living room with everyone else while I was cooking burgers for everyone and then I heard a door slam just as I was finishing up. Went out to the living room and asked where she went. Turns out another new player (6'8" flaming gay mexican that I called Sassquatch because of how quippy he was) said nigga and she had a melt down and left. I gave him her burger and we all had a laugh again.

What Anonymous said, but also long-time players have years of experience in catching "problem" players. Social justice just happens to be the newest wave of bullshit to look out for.
