man, I have a traditional games story that will irritate any gms out here.
so, I'm running a space western game in around a week over the internet with some people I know irl (we all know why its not in person) and my players (exept for one who is pretty experienced and not obnoxious) are the normie type. you know the type, got into "traditional games" (exclusively dnd) because of stranger things and critical role, expects the role play to be as high quality as professional actors, and won't accept any other system besides dnd easily because they think its the highest quality system out there.
anyway, I convinced them to go along with me using Risus, as its simple and easy to use, perfect for online play.fast forward, and I have spent the last 2 weeks writing a fuckton of lore from the setting in a way that its easier to understand (this setting is one I had thought of months before, and had been working on in the background for a while) and I must say, i'm pretty proud of it. then a conversation happens, where two of them essentially gang up on me and begin whining about how I created the world before I knew what their characters were going to be like, and how this is "so restricting". they are relatively new players mind you. I tried to explain to them as to why I cant go back and change fundamental lore to suit some whim of theirs (in the nicest way I could) but they wouldn't have it. I was pretty flustered, as I wasn't exactly prepared to argue the point of why a world needs to be made before players can. when I made the best case I could one of the players claimed that me making the world first "rendered the characters unimportant and meaningless". I eventually just told them straight that I wasn't going to rearrange the whole world build I had spent months on just for some silly player type, but that there were still plenty of opportunities to make whatever they wanted, so long as it made sense for the world.
fml.
anyway, anyone else try Risus?

Update on this little fiasco. Apparently this guy's girlfriend (yeah, he apparently has a genuinely born female girlfriend) has also been fired by Roll20 and removed from her show/game of four years just for being associated with him. At least that's her side of the story: https://twitter.com/bluejay_712/status/1248739972871368704
Roll20 has been a shit show since their last hack when they took almost a year to finally tell people what was taken so I can't say I feel sorry for these people.

Game writer and dangerhair kweer male feminist Adam Koebel got caught being a pervert on his livestream. During the stream, Adam, as the GM, sexually assaulted one of the characters--sort of. Everyone got really uncomfortable about it while he just laughed it off. Koebel, who is known for being a supporter of the various RPG safety tools like the X-card, made a non-apology and blamed the group for not stopping it fast enough, which just goes to show you that the only people who wave these things around like a piety display are creepers. All of his players have publicly quit.

Here is the clip in question:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=cUoenthEiHA:4560

This is like the most basic "Computer gets turned on by having a thing stuck inside it's port" joke; anyone who says this proves he's a perp or that this can trigger someone's RapeNam PTSD is a fucking retard.

Holy fucking shit. I'm sorry to hear that, dude.

What did they expect to change with their characters? Did they think they could become the Robo-Pimp-King of SpaceTexas or something?

Making a lore document for a one page system seems like a questionable choice.

It's less an adventure and more of a 'something really bad happened in this house and you're looking at the aftermath' thing which makes you much more of a spectator than active participant in it. And iirc you can't stop or change the fate of the event so it's just a display of bodyhorror gore for no real reason.

If you like dismembered babies and fetus monsters then cool. Might be worth it for the read (it's very brief) but to me it's just a whole kettle of no thanks. Death Frost Doom has some awful things in it but manages to not be half as edgy horrible and more for creepy atmosphere.
I think I played a one shot of this at Gencon. The game itself was okay, didn't love or hate it. But about a year later I realized that the folks who were recommending it with such gusto were doing so specifically BECAUSE of that type of stuff. These aren't 20-something edgelords, either. Old enough to know better.

I suppose it says more about my (then) choice of gaming aquaintences than it probably does about the game itself. Trust me, exorcising people like this out of your life is so liberating.

You can tell this guy is a Male Feminist just by looking at him

The soy is strong in this one.

Why do these fuckwits always seem to have beards?

MovieBob, Dobson, Jake Alley, Peter Bright, this guy...

It seems to be a thing with the soyboys and male feminist sex pests despite their rage against the so-called neckbeards. You think they'd put in some more effort to show they're not like those guys by shaving every day.

I'll be honest, I just don't get it. When did beards become the norm among Millennial losers?

It used to be that young guys went clean shaven to look presentable, and beards were only seen as socially acceptable for old guys or certain religious sects like Muslims, Sikhs, and Orthodox Judaism.

I don't want to sound all Boomer with this, but this wasn't that long ago. But I digress...

So, does anyone have experience with Cyberpunk Red? I love the combat system of the original game, but some aspects have aged terribly, like mobile phones that only offer the ability to make and receive calls - with only really expensive premium models being able to keep a list of saved phone numbers.
I wondered, if the updated version is worth a shot.

With lolcows like Chipmong and Dobson, I assume they use the beard to hide their double chins.

Nobody will have any experience with it, given it hasn't come out yet. They've got a "jumpstart" version with new (non-doll) art in a 45 page rulebook, mostly crunch. Most of the fluffy parts look like they're stripped from older books. The rules themselves seem to be largely the same, but they gave it a different name and presumably someone with more experience with the system could tell you what actually got changed. It looks like most of the fluff got packed into a 53 page "worldbook", cellphones in particular get replaced with 'agents', which look like smartphones with some minor AI. Like a third of the book is designated to the history, and another third is meant to run a pregen story, with the remaining third being world-building. Looks like they'll at least try to keep with modern trends like 3d printed guns and the agents.

The usual places have it up if you wanna check it out.

Fuck it, I'm dumping the homebrew classes I came up with in this thread.

The Classes:
The Tamer: A Minionmancer build that operates on Duskblade progression: https://pastebin.com/hKnZ4e9P
The Channeler: A buffer also using Duskblade as a chassis, designed in concert with a buddy: https://pastebin.com/V03PphaY
The Attuner: A shaman-esque Divine class that uses the Sha'ir as an inspiration: https://pastebin.com/9NkF3PBq
The Puppeteer: Non-good minionmancer psionic that has a small squad of animated constructs: https://pastebin.com/UZspcgp8

I was under the impression that they released sometime last year, guess they didn't.
Cyberpunk 2020 is an interesting game, both in setting and rules.

the idea was to keep it as rules lite as possible, the game is based on narrative and rp mostly.

kind of, one of them wanted to be a "well known terrorist whose evil deeds are known far and wide" and got pissy when I said that wasn't practical for the campaign I had planned. now one of them wants to be someone who is sure that aliens exist in the world, even though the setting explicitly says there aren't any. I assume they are trying to hint to me that they want aliens or something, idk. they wanted to have their character have visions about aliens and everything.

This deserves a hearty "what the fuck am I reading".
I mean, that last one is pretty easy. If he wants to roleplay as some Ancient Aliens fanboy, I would allow him to do so, but I'd also tell him up front that aliens won't show up in the setting. That wannabe-terrorist... I feel you could share a plethora of "that guy" stories about him, once the game starts.

What info did you give your players that one decided he wanted to play Space Osama Bin Laden anyway? Is that like his kink or something? I mean, with that character, it's obvious that the campaign would be derailed quickly, even a new player should understand that.
I feel you have two choices if he insists on playing such a character:

1. Put your foot down and tell him he's either going to play something less autistic or he's not going to play at all. If you are afraid this will tarnish your friendship, remember that he started it and that he clearly does not respect you if he makes such a request.

2. Allow him to play Space Osama Bin Laden but make him face the consequences of that choice. I.E: Wanna-Bin-Laden leaves his hidey-hole to meet up with the rest of the group and he's instantly recognized by someone on the sidewalk. So he's either killed by an angry mob or the cops show up and drag him off - either in cuffs or in a bodybag. If he decides to play as a giant bullseye, let him be. If he surprises you by actually playing it smart and not just waltzing into the street without hiding his identity, you might cut him some slack, but the moment he gets exposed, his ass should be grass. This also raises the question: Why should the other players hang out with a character that is obviously dangerous and most likely off his rocker? If the game is just about some group of prospectors traveling and exploring, why should they take such a clown with them and why should he tag along?

I actually spoke to the both of them after the first post I made, and they seemed to understand after I explained it to them more graciously. Wanna Bin Laden (i'm using that one btw) decided to make a different character. the info I gave them that made them interested in being a terrorist was the war history of the setting I suppose, perhaps I went into a bit to much detail with all the war crimes (so fucking many man) even though I made it pretty clear (or I at least thought I did) that, while the "underdog" of the war are the good guys, the terrorists and war criminals who fought against the le evil big space empire were bad. perhaps detailing the bombing of a resort and several fucking city blocks didnt get the message through. I can post the cliff notes version of the world lore, but only if people ask, I don't want to clutter the thread otherwise.

This is a work-in-progress Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (2E) character generator written as a shell script (I know there are some other Linux spergs ITT). As indicated there's stuff I plan to add to it, but it does the beginning of the job for you and is fun to play with. It asks for name and race and picks out stats, career, and talents. It needs to add career-specific talents, equipment, etc. and roll for a couple more tables. Also contains a dice-roller that can easily be pulled out and used by itself. It wasn't written to be a beautiful program but to be functional.

Example output

Code:
Siegfried the Human Coachman

WS BS S T Ag Int WP Fel
     26 24 33 31 30 32 27 3

A W SB TB M Mag IP FP
      6 3 3 4 3 0 0 3

    Skills: Common Knowledge (the Empire)
                Gossip
                Speak Language (Reikspiel)

    Talents: Coolheaded
                Night Vision

Script
