I like the d20 system overall, but I'm not going to pretend that it's balanced in any way between the different classes.

Pathfinder was good with power creep, least until the Ultimate Wilderness book came out. No one playtested the Shifter so it came out as shit. Even the books feats were bad compared to other books.

So, I feel bad but sastified:

I made him cry. I stated the facts, talked to him like an adult but he still was very toxic in my game by wanting to play with his rules and being an ass to everyone. Result are: Another player taunted some creature to attack them, he woke up everyone except toxic players and they all fled in the woods. They were sleeping in a cavern so when toxic player woke up, he was alone with a hord of skeleton.

He died. He wanted to do another character sheet but I stop him there and told him to wait at the end of the game. When I annonced that he is kicked out because of the many reasons I did discuss with him and he didn't even try to chance, he left crying. Didn't even bother to wait for the other player to lift him back home. I hope he'll grow up soon.

You made the right call. Teach him what his parents wouldn't: acting like a little shit has consequences.

Also, if you haven't done so yet, go read the Five Geek Social Fallacies.

Picked up N.E.W Science Fiction Roleplaying and O.L.D Fantasy Roleplaying. Checking out O.L.D right now and it doesn't seem bad from my first glance at it. Straight d6 based system.

Been re-reading my Dad's old copies of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 1E, specifically the Player's Handbook and the Dungeon Master's Guide as that's all I currently have right now.

It's some really cool stuff and I like it, despite some of the mechanical weirdness compared to 3.X/Pathfinder and 5E.

Descending AC isn't quite as bothersome once you get used to it, though I still prefer Ascending AC. It is rather interesting that certain classes have prerequisite Ability Score requirements, and that the Paladin, Ranger, Illusionist, Assassin, and Druid are technically considered sub-classes of the Fighter, Magic-User, Thief, and Cleric respectively.

Also, the 1E DMG has some interesting optional rules for other types of characters. There's the 1E version of the Bard, a proto-prestige class that requires a character take levels in Fighter and Thief and on top of all that, be accepted by a Druid society so they can give you the final round of training to be a Bard.

Despite being typically associated with newer editions of D&D, Psionics also make their proper debut in the 1E DMG (although they were mentioned in the OD&D supplement Eldritch Wizardry) and there are also rules for firearms if you want to port your Boot Hill characters over to D&D.

It's really interesting stuff.

Wait until you read Dungeons and Dragons Basic where races were classes. That's how I started, played an elf for over two decades, always converting to the next Edition.

If you want to see real crazy shit, check out Wildmages in 2nd Edition, or Psionics.

Oh, I know all about "Race as Class" in Basic D&D. For a lot of people who started with WOTC-era D&D, that is often a deal-breaker for them (which is why I have a hard time pitching Basic D&D/OSR to some of my IRL gaming buddies), but I've never had a problem with it.

I'd love to run a 1E AD&D game soon, either online or IRL.

Goodman Games publishes dungeon crawl Classics which is based on original first edition with some tweaks to make it more fun and less broken. Elf Dwarf and Halfling are all available classes. .

I own Dungeon Crawl Classics on hard copy. It's a good game, but I have yet to play it or find a group for it.

I'm trying to run weekly crawls at my bar but it's hard to get enough people to come in for that on a weeknight.

I know how you feel, roleplaying is all but dead in my city. Last game I found was two years ago and never got past the first session. RPG meetups are also not a thing after this one guy ruined them and lost the trust of the majority of RPer's here.

Also, after two weeks or so I'll know if I'll be free for games. I have an appointment soon for school and tests for it so all I've been doing on my free time is studying.

I'm currently reading the Ratkin book (Werewolf the Apocalypse) and there are some genuinely funny parts in it like the unbral spirit known as the Freakachu and the characters Momma Rat and Danny "Diz" Walton need to be read to be believed. The later believes that Walt Disney stole his idea so he plans to send a horde of rat minions to destroy and take over the "Happiest Place on Earth" so he can rule it and have a harem of "Princesses".

Been sort of bummed lately. Don't have anyone to game with IRL right now, and I don't have a microphone on my desktop so gaming over Discord is highly unlikely as well. And yet I have a lot of great ideas for campaigns I want to run, especially AD&D 1E and Vampire: The Masquerade.

I could run them as play-by-posts if I can find the right forum for them, or worst-case scenario, turn them into RPG fan fiction and post them online or something. Might as well do something with all this free time I have in the winter and early spring.

I mean, it is technically spring, but it's still cold and snowy where I am at right now.

Could always find a discord game that does it just through chat instead of voice.

We play with two people who have no mics. They usually just chat in Roll20 or the discord when needed.

Oh, and speaking of RPGs, I got on a Fallout kick, and found this.

Exodus RPG is pretty neat if you want to try a post apocalyptic game or need more guns for a modern run. And you can definitely tell that it originally started out as a Fallout P&P game given the images, and very quick name changes when Bethesda got pissy about it's newish license at the time.

Have you checked out Dust Adventures from Modiphius?

Has anyone ever had any experience with Twilight 2000? A friend of mine is finally ready to run the game he's been planning forever. All I know is that it's a pretty math heavy game set it post ww3 Europe. I'm pretty excited tbh.

So the discussion with my scout master and his game master buddy went over well and we covered some of the key points of the merit badge and got a date for when the merit badge starts, the third wednesday of april. I'll be doing the lesson plan myself and looking for an editor to help me set up the adventure. If someone wants to help edit the adventure, I'll happily take them onboard
