My recommendation would be crib from V:TM and The Game of Thrones RGP & other GoT things, and toss in a bit of Crusader Kings (vidya). I'm not sure what game to go for about the New World trading simulation but I'm sure there is one.I didn't think of that.
That's not sarcasm. This came about when a couple of ex players started talking about a cyberpunk game I had planned years ago but never finished, and a steampunk game that also fell apart after a session. Here's me trying to figure out how to have cinematic gunfights without turn based combat, but I didn't consider changing the scope to avoid combat. Age of Sail might be too dry for my group, but I love the idea.
Something I need to sleep on. Those shitty Pathfinder campaigns people love where you build a city or run a resistance movement. I don't like them because the two modes are separated by a canyon made of saw blades so the management feels like a waste of time. I wonder if flipping them around to the PCs are running the city and NPCs are sent out to do the adventures would work?
(WARNING: I have not played or given more than a cursory glance at these systems; I'm going off of play reports and general themes)
That is, the players run trading companies. They attempt to undercut and undermine rivals, while also playing political fuck-fuck games and the political fuck-fuck games are where the majority of the game play happens. Most of this won't need dice roles (ot at least player dice rolls), and would lend itself well to abstract, distributed play.
And what dice rolls happen, the players wouldn't/shouldn't know the outcome.
But I'll warn you that you need players of a specific mindset. They need to be OK with very abstract, delayed, and disconnected results to their actions. They sent out a ship to go to Angola for slaves, Jamaica for sugar, and Virginia for furs & rum, it might be a year plus before the ship comes back. If something goes wrong, they might not know for months their ship is in trouble by the time a returning ship brings news. If it is lost in a storm, you might not know for years, if ever, what happened.
They would need to understand, when it comes to stuff like assassinations, they would basically be playing chess and they are the king; if a cloaked assassin steps out of the shadows of their mansion at night, they are foppy faggot aristocrats and that is game over - the way they stopped this was by heading off opponents such they wouldn't have the stones or juice to pull this thing off.
Rest of your post is spot on but this wrong, dead wrong.Furries have always been a percentage of the nerd population, I don't think the ratio has changed appreciably over the years.
Furries are not only more numerous but both the degree that they identify as a furry and the level of furfag degeneracy they view as acceptable for polite company has gone though the fucking roof.
That is, back in the day, you would have a furry who was a furry but keep that shit on the D/L around non-furfags. They would not be wearing ears and tails to any non-halloween events. They would not discus fursonas. They woudn't talk about their furry ERP community. They usually wouldn't even try to inject furry gooning or their vore fetish into the game because they knew that it would not tolerated.
Now, fursonas are front and center in the profile beside pronouns, they have no issues bring up shit like nullification and other degen gooning terms, and will constantly be trying to turn any games they participate into in to furry gooning sesh. Then add to this most of them are also some level of tranny and "Suffer not the furry to live" has never been more needed.
Nigga fucking HOW? D20 is a 5% gated percentile system.percentile dice [ ... ]which overcame the limitations of d20 systems
Its the same goddamn thing.
