Either CNN is intentionally omitting other identifying information because it's not what they want people to hear, or the Swiss police are really fucking bad at being police.

This comment was weird to me because I read the article before the thread and it said:
CNN said:
Shauffhausen public prosecutor Peter Sticher said the attacker had been identified as 51-year-old Franz Wrousis, a Swiss national with no fixed address who lives in a forest.

You think the reason they've been able to tell the entire world to fuck off and remain neutral in every major war for the last couple centuries is just because everyone else is nice?
I'm aware of the Swiss' reputation, but it doesn't seem to be doing them a bit of good really.

Hobbits armed with chainsaws probably don't weigh the relative military strength of countries before they go nuts.....

Well, he certainly looks like a maniac who lives alone in the woods, but he could do with a big beard or something.

The Kaiser famously asked the Swiss what would happen if he sent a million men against the 500,000 strong Swiss Militia. The Response?

"Fire Twice and then go home."

I'm fairly certain that this is one of those things that gets repeated a lot, but probably isn't true, as sadly there's no actual evidence, even though it's awesome.

At least you used the more likely WW1 anecdote, a lot of people say it happened in WW2.

On that note how often do spree killers get stopped by a rando with a gun? I'm not saying that as a challenge, I'm genuinely curious.
Very few. Most spree killers commit suicide, or are taken out by police. Armed civilians in these situations also give cops a headache - it can cause more confusion and panic among witnesses and also means they might shoot the wrong person.

All in all this looks like a spur of the moment thing aimed at coworkers... which is pretty usual for shit like this.

Apparently they amended the article with that information between the time I read it and the time you did.
