Shantae would have been a good choice, but 2-B would have been an excellent choice. Hard to believe that game came out only 2 years ago.
None of the Nier or Drakengard games have ever been on nintendo consoles and Nier is still entirely on the PS3.

People don't talk about Nintendo's willingness to let artists use their games' soundfonts enough. For those who don't know, a soundfont is a way of grouping various instruments together (such as making a soundfont dedicated to instruments taken from EarthBound). It was nice of them to let Toby Fox use instruments from EarthBound and other games of theirs without suing him.

For as many problems as I have with their handling of older games, this is a moment of generosity from Nintendo that I truly appreciate.

I don't know, I still think Joker is a better pick than what rosterfags want (Purple Luigi, edgy pinnochio from Mayreo RPG, emo pedoshit, Isaac from generic GBA RPG, and memecraft Steve, for example).
Ashleyfags and Waluigifags need to be gassed. At least Steve could have unique block placing moves or something? What the fuck would those two do?

I didnt even notice the difference in the smash version of Megalovania. Any insight?

Steve in Smash sounds pretty bland if you ask me.

Kind of a weak inclusion of Sans. It's a shitty reskin, and not even one that canonically makes sense. I haven't played the game but never seen him with a gun?

Nintendo loathes anything western or indie, and even in this case they finally included a character from a game straight down Nintendo's alley that became a phenomenon years ago. Other than Shovel Knight and Isaac they've barely recognized the greats of indie gaming.

I bet Sakurai was being pressured into this and finally went "fucking whatever, make a bunch of barely-characters reskins".

He uses something called a Gaster Blaster in his infamous fight, which I guess is close enough to a gun. He's not really a fist fighter, so it makes some sense.

Yes, that's why they handed over one of the biggest vidya franchises to Brace Yourself Games to turn it into a rhythm game and included Commander Video and Ray Man as trophies/Shantae as a Spirit.

Be happy with what you got, because it could've just been nothing.

And that's also why they added Banjo-Kazooie as a full fledged fighter and not a Mii costume.

Confuses me so much that a bunch of guys who get pissy that their game isn't considered a fighting game, then get mad when fighting game characters get put in.

I know this stuff is from wednesday, but Sakurai is actually a pretty big fan of Persona 5. So, I don't think Joker's inclusion was as much of a "shill pick" as some people make it out to be. This is the same guy who participated in SFII tournaments back when he wasn't even in his 20's, I think. So, it isn't just some superficial "I started at 5" thing, neither.

They're not the same people, just the same group. Both aren't right though. Closest thing to a proper title Smash has as a genre is a "platform fighter," which is similar but a far cry from an actual fighting game. As for the people who are mad that fighting game characters are in, they're just stupid.

the characters from actual fighting games are the most interesting ones tho

My take is they added them because even though Rare's bought out they still had 1. A working relationship with Nintendo that spanned two decades making many successful games both financially and critically and 2. Was in such good graces they were trusted with Nintendo original properties and made games that were as said in the first point both critically and financially successful. So that's why a character of theirs is in just like properties from companies who were on the ground level of making games on Nintendo consoles such as Capcom, Konami, Namco, Bandai and Squaresoft.
